I have been wanting to make this post for two months but didn't want to jinx him, so I waited until a point in the season where its too late to jinx!

First of all, I want to say that I am very, very impressed and very, very proud of how Talley has played this season. He has stepped his game up in much the same fashion as Lance Jeter a few years back - I really feel he's a completely different player from last year and much improved.

Most of that is because he's (as far as I can tell) 100% healthy this season. Afterall, he's able to play essentially 40 minutes a game and run the point, be our best perimeter rebounder, leading scorer, etc, etc. He is also the leader of this team (along with Ubel).

What I want to say/ask is - how in the world is he able to be 100% healthy last year when we heard Doc say at least 3-4 times a month he had "chronically bad feet" and will "never be 100% while he's here." He seemed very limited last year and all we heard was how injury plagued he was.

How have we NEVER heard even a PEEP about that this year? Did he miracously recover? Does Miles practice different? Is he training different? Or did Doc just overblow it?

I just was wondering if anyone else noticed the lack of injury to Talley this year and how we haven't heard a single mention of it, when I swear it seemed like we heard it bi-weekly last season.

Anyone else find this odd (in a good way)?

Doc was skilled at weaving a compelling tale of woe.

I thought the issue Dylan had last year was his thigh, not his feet.  Here is a short snippet from his bio on Husker.com:

After playing more of a complimentary role in his first season at Nebraska, senior Dylan Talley will be looked to as one of the leaders of the 2012-13 Huskers. With four senior starters a year ago, Talley was the Huskers' sixth man, averaging 8.9 points per game in 25 games. The 6-foot-5 guard was third on the team in scoring and topped all Big Ten reserves in scoring despite missing five games and being hampered in others because of a thigh injury.

I could have sworn it was chronic feet or knee issues Doc kept talking about. But maybe I'm remembering wrong.

I definitely remember him saying "we'll always have to deal with it with Dylan" and "it'll always be there." Whatever it was!

With Talley it was a chronic type deep thigh bruise that calcified. The original injury was several years ago but he would aggravate it last year and he wore that giant thigh pad for several games.

You make it sound like he was lying and/or making excuses and I just don't think that was the case.  I remember some even blaming Doc for drafting Talley in the first place, that he somehow should have known that the deep thigh bruise that calcified would have been a problem.

It was Diaz that had the Chronic feet, that Doc talked about.  All that was mentioned concerning Dylan was his thigh to the best of my memory.

I think it's also important to recognize that the light seemed to come on for talley when Miles made him the PG and allowed him to initiate the offense.  I don't think that position/role change would've occurred under the previous regime

Yes, that was my understanding as well. IIRC, McCray had shoulder issues.

That's a pretty darned skillful weaving of a tale of woe when you even go to the trouble of using props.  Thigh pads, even not playing him 5 games, that's incredibly skillful tale of woe weaving.

I was one that posted a thread earlier in the season kind of bagging on Tally for being a bit of a "ball hog".  Not meaning it in a bad way, but meaning that he was trying to do too much(because it seemed for them to succeed, that he had to) and it led to him forcing things and they weren't going for him at the time.  I think he has made an outstanding adjustment and seems to be letting the game come to him more now and is not forcing things as much.  He is playing great right now.

I would agree with that as he has settled into his role alot more now and not trying to do to much or forcing things like he was earlier in the year.  He has been a beast lately and putting this team on his back at times.  I really like the way he is playing and the improvement in his game over the course of the season.

Eventually it did after he figured out how to facilitate as a combo guard.

Benny Parker is the only "true point guard" on scholarship and he doesn't even play point on the floor because he's not a big enough scoring threat.  The future at Nebraska is currently and will be combo guards: guys who can dish and score.

Toney also had heart issues or something akin to that type of medical scare prior to arriving in Lincoln.  Here is a tidbit from his bio:

McCray did not play basketball during his junior season as he was held out while undergoing examinations for a medical condition. The testing was necessary as his older brother, Jason, died from an enlarged heart in 1998 at age 19. Jason was a defensive end on the Navy football team and was on a summer cadet cruise that stopped in Boston where he was playing pickup basketball when he collapsed and passed away.

A thought a "point guard" was a guard who ran the point.  I didn't realize a point guard had to be a scoring threat.
