The Nebraska women's basketball team will begin preparations soon for its summer tour of Greece

Quick observations/opinions from watching the videos:

General

- thanks for providing them!

- these Greek teams aren’t very good for “all-stars.”  The first one looked like a high school all-star team at best while Patras  was maybe equivalent to a DIII college all-star team.  Hard to draw many definitive conclusions.

- our high scores and pace are partially the result of a 24 sec shot clock.  Maybe there’s a message there.

The Good

- all of Williams’ teams are deep, but this team is DEEP.  Ten players all played well with similar minutes against Patras, and 3 of our likely major contributors down the road didn’t play.

- as others have noted the newbies are going to contribute, but White especially.  She needs to be our starting point guard with Shelley off-ball.

- both Stewart and Markowski seem maybe to be in improved shape, and AM displayed a move or two that I don’t think she had last year.

- team defense at times looks improved.

- while we don’t seem to have an instant plug-in for Bourne, Potts plus the new Aussie may do the trick.

The Not So Good (admittedly hard to complain when you win by 60!)

- too many missed bunnies, especially in the first half.  AM probably had 5 by herself.

- Shelley is our best all around player but seems to be underutilized, seemingly content to hang around the perimeter jacking up 3s and throwing high risk passes.  She has a good in the paint skill set both shooting and creating but we rarely see it.

- speaking of jacking up 3s, if we’re going to shoot 30 of them we really should make more than 11 against a vastly inferior team.  Every year Williams seems to think that’s a team strength, but other than those relatively few times when Jaz has gone full Seth Curry the stats tend not to support it.

- every year I hope to see at least a couple of players who have clearly been coached up to a new level.  Obviously too early to tell but nobody jumped off the screen in these two games.  The biggest eyeball plus is a transfer - White.

Lot's of potential out there but we won't be able to tell much until the non conference games start.  A lot more speed with White and Potts.  Most impressive to me is White with her speed, tenacity on both offense and defense, toughness and ball handling as she drives to the hoop.  Not a great 3 point shooter but she fills a lot of areas that we have been missing.

I can see now why the game wasn't streamed.  Not a lot to be learned from such a mismatch.  One thing I look at from the games on the trip  is how each of our players do efficiency wise versus each other.  Looks to me that a couple of our veterans didn't stack up real well when compared to our three newbies.  At least we had something to follow and talk about for a week.  Unfortunately we are entering another dead period for a couple of months.  Maybe a Britt Prince commit to NU will happen to get us reenergized.  We also have volleyball.

Hoped the Greek squads would have been more competitive. The trip has to be a great trip for the team..(I'm jealous)

Markowski another double double.....think she did all three games.  White may have the most impressive newbie...to the team. , and all the team looked real comfortable and ready. As had been said .. the freshman are impressive for kids just out of H.S.  Potts had a double - double !

Box score ...sort of

Still lots of time before the season, and lots to do to jell in coming together with team concepts/schemes.

Looks like Petrie joined the team.  Don't think she appeared in any earlier games.

I don't think so, I think that Greece took the roster of of the Husker web site. Because MM was there either.

I wasn't sure of one person in the picture you posted on August 3rd (after game 2).  Thought it might have been Petrie.  I can't put a name to the girl in the 2nd row, far right.

Yuck.  That was embarrassingly ugly.  Yes, more than a bit critical.   I am unsure who picked this team to play or how they sold them as a viable team; but that stunk.  We could have played nearly any class A or B team in the State of Nebraaka, and it would have been more competitive.

Okay, that said; I hope this trip was awesome for the ladies and helps build the foundation for a successful season.

The only concerning thing for me was why the hip to ankle wrap on Allisons left knee.  We need her completely healthy by season start.  How's this for a starting lineup.  Darian White, Jaz Shelley, Allison Weidner, Natalie Potts and Alexis Markowki.

Give me K Moriarty at the starting guard position if Allison’s knee isn’t 100% when the season starts.

I agree.  They will probably want Allison to gradually build her confidence so she can be totally ready for conference.

More too early for predictions...BUT my genie in the bottle says.... That's probably close as I see the starters too.

But not sure about Weidner.    If she's not ready to play now, then hard to say she will be fully ready by Oct games. (Doc's probably know)

Just hope she recovers fully at what ever point, and is game ready with no issues. If that's this fall... then great obviously.  Will have to see it in person I guess.

If she can't go early then expect Moriarty or Krull to start.  Lot's of options at guard though.

We'll be in pretty good shape with the 3 shots....#2 Nissey will add to the production. We actually could be better at guards driving to the basket. (White and Moriarty...as well as the last years guards)

We should be OK inside and at the 4. Markowski, Stewart (seems to kind of hit her stride), Potts, Mendelson (expect more skills this season as she adapts to the college game), and even White scrambles well to get some rebounds. Potts may help offset for the loss of Issie.

Hardly a scientific BBall analysis ...just food for thought at this point. (hope nobody else gets hurt : (

Like this team...so many possibilities at full court play, fast breaks, ...deeper and more versatile.

I am reasonably sure Krull will be the starter to start off with unless Weidner goes very far very fast in her rehab and regaining of confidence

I think Potts will be the starter, but really only because she can get up and down the court quicker.  That makes her a better match White assuming White is our starting one.

Then of course Jaz and Markowski will be rounding out the starting five

Just so everyone is aware. Indiana played Greece teams as well. Also destroyed the teams as well. So its not like Nebraska did this on purpose. Also looks like Scalia got injured. That would be big for them.

update on Scalia: it is being reported Scalia received good news and will be just fine.
