Even then, those are the #45 (Memphis) and #58 (New Orleans) metro regions in the states. For comparison, Omaha is #56.

Those aren't big enough markets to legitimize the media contracts or the league.

Well, those two would be considerably bigger than any of the other 6, lol.

Yeah, true. The other 5 are tiny, since the average city size is only 47k.

Yeah and I think thats awesome. I like this set up. I understand it doesn't make sense moneywise. But these schools have already been left behind. Nothing is going to change that now. And while SDSU may be in a "larger" market nobody cares about college sports here. A little about the basketball team maybe.

So with that in mind go old school and set up this conference like they should be set up. Regionally. Add Nevada and UNLV and call it a day. Maybe I could be talked into New Mexico and NMST. Fight like hell to keep your "major" conference tag. Be happy with 1 guaranteed spot in the playoffs if you can pull it off and all goes as planned.

Yeah, suppose so. And that's why I mentioned to get programs in bigger markets that actually care about college athletics. I figured Memphis and Tulane were the 'next' programs to ascend to a better conference overall. None of these latest conference changes lately have made a lot of sense as far as regional play. I still miss the Big 8, for heaven's sake!

I still miss the Big 8,

Imagine how awesome the 12 team playoff would be if the winners of the Big 8, Big 10, Pac 10, SWC, ACC, SEC, Big East, one guaranteed from the mid majors, then four at-large spots face off for it all 😍

The SEC should be forced to take Tulane and Georgia Tech back.  And Sewanee, for that matter.

Do they plan to rename it the "State League"?

I sure hope they don't screw the pooch here and admit an eigth team that doesn't have "State" in the name. I will turn a blind eye begrudgingly if the must add Gonzaga.

Spongebob Waiting Meme Generator - Imgflip

New Mexico State waiting for that eighth 'State' invite.

University of New Mexico probably has a better chance.  I still don’t see where the TV dollars will be.

Albuquerque is a pretty comparable TV market to Omaha and New Mexico has about the same population as Nebraska.

It would be epic to be the All States League, but alas: Yes, I'd agree that the Lobos would be the better choice overall.

Then Pac-12 was courting UNLV but it seems the university turned them down (in favor of a $MM bonus from the MWC to stay).

They probably determined that it wasn't worth them changing their university name to UNLV State

From some reports, Pac-12 was looking at Memphis, Tulane, South Florida, and UTSA, but they all opted to stay in the AAC.

Mountain West looking at options replacement like UTEP and Tarleton State.

Those two are interesting case subjects, I thought they were the "next in line" for a bump up in status, if the Pac still qualifies. I guess these programs must have decided proximity ought to matter more than money. Hmmm.
