Yeah, it was quite an ass-kickin'. Indiana State is fighting for that at-large bid and it's not looking too shabby for them right now. Looking at the bright side, Doug did not impress any NBA scouts last night. But, the refs may be insuring that he leaves early. He continually gets hammered and gets none of it called. He may just bolt so that he does not have to put up with that anymore. Valley refs/officials are so dumb,  you'd think that they would want to protect him... it can only be a positive for the Valley if he does stick around for his senior year. Who knows? Artino looked good and there should not be a great drop-off when he replaces Echinique next year.

How did Kansas lose to a team that had not won a conference game, yet??

Doug may get beat around a little bit, but sometimes you have to man up... Doug likes to make things look a lot worse than they actually are.  Some like to call it a flop, but his is more than that.  He is continually crying for a foul or falling over or making noises as if he just took a blow that broke his ribs.  Sorry but the boy who cried wolf did not get any help, and the boy who cries foul does not get any calls.

You may be right. I have not seen all the games as my son and I share a season ticket. You must have great seats at the C-Link; where we sit, all you cam hear from the floor are the ref's whistles.

You do not need floor seats to hear and see that sort of thing... all you need is a couch, TV, and remote.

It's called complacency,Tony. I'm sure it is pretty hard to keep these college aged kids from getting pretty full of themselves by this time of year and having some dud efforts. Probably a good thing since I'm sure both Creighton and the Jayhawks will have their acts together by the time March arrives. And this appears to be one year when about any decent team can make it to the final four if they put together a short hot streak.

Ahhh Tony. So obsessed. Creighton goes down again and the only thing he can post about on the Creighton board is about Nebraska basketball! Lmao! The only thing more funny than that is that you are talking about Will fricken Artino. You may be correct that there may be no drop off between him and Echenique. Why? Because you all over hyped Echenique big time. The guy has never and will never have an offensive game to his arsenal. Creighton fans didn't want to hear it...I was exactly right about this team. Unathletic, bad defense, live by the 3 die by the 3. I guess the good news for them is if they can hit their shots they can still make a run. But McDermott hasn't exactly done a great job recruiting their. The kids he has brought in and the future prospects they have committed are average at best.

You may be right; you sound really smart. But, as we know, only time will tell. Although, I do think Artino is pretty good for a sophomore. It is nice to know, though, that I root for a team that can possibly make a run.

A redshirt sophomore. He is nothing more than an average player in an average league. With that said, the team you root for takes another bad loss and the only thing you think about is Nebraska! That says alot. Explains as to why you spend so much time on this board. We are in your head real deep.

Not at all. Notice, I'm not on the Creighton board replying to your post. Also when Nebraska takes a loss to a mediocre team the first thing I don't think of is .."well, it could be worse. I could be a Jays fan." You did get called out on your own board which was amusing. BTW that dynamite RS sophomore you brought up received 8 minutes last night coming off a career night in a 20 point loss to Indiana State. Either it's bad coaching or McDermott doesn't think too highly of Artino. But I digress as I'm dealing with someone who doesn't own up to what he says. How many months ago did you say you were done with this board?

Hey Tony, why don't you take this advice from a creighton fan on your own board:

"Now would be a very good time to NOT start talking shit about NU basketball. Right now CU-NU would be a pick 'em game. And they have some actual ballers coming into the program. Not sure we can say the same about CU right now."

He's right. Post-Doug McDermott, Creighton fans will really find out what kind of coach Greg McDermott is, if they haven't already figured it out.

I am not sure Creighton is going away any time soon.  They have a decent foundation and they certainly have good complimentary players this year.  I certainly hope that Creighton stays good, but more importantly, I hope that Nebraska is better each and every year.

May not be "going away" but they certainly aren't going to be a Top 25 team with the talent they have. They won't even be a Top 25 team tomorrow with the talent they currently have, the best they've ever had.

I am not a Jays fan, but I know they had good teams over the years.  For example, the Korver years were pretty successful for them.  The point I was attempting to make though, is that I hope they are good and I hope they can maintain a top 35 program...I simply want to have a better program, and to beat them each and every year.

I'm not sure I'd say the current Creighton team is the most talented one they've ever had.  As cwg mentioned the Korver teams were pretty decent, and I'd say you could probably consider the Harstad/Gallagher years as among the more talented teams they've put out there as well.

Going further back, the teams with Benoit Benjamin - just with that one player alone - has to be included in that conversation.

But frankly, and this is my honest opinion, I couldn't give a rat's ass whether they're successful or not going forward.  It has no bearing - again IMO - on what Nebraska does or the product it puts on the floor year in and year out.  That is ultimately where my allegiance begins and ends.

Posted

Maybe all-around they don't have the best talent they've ever had, but McDermott is the most decorated player they've ever had and Gibbs and Echinique are no slouches. But the expectations from their fanbase this year were greater than any other year and they believe they have the team to achieve those expectations. Don't think they ever believed the Korver teams could go to the final 4, but some of their fans stated coming into this year that this team could make that type of run. That's looking less and less likely by the game but we'll see. They live and die by the 3 so maybe they will live with it in March.

Benoit Benjamin was the third overall draft pick in 1985.

Kyle Korver was a second round draft choice and has been playing in the league for years...in college:

  • Missouri Valley Conference career three-pointers record (371)[1]
  • Second Team All-American by Associated Press: 2003[1]
  • Missouri Valley Conference MVP: 2003[2]
  • Missouri Valley Conference Tournament MVP: 2003[2]
  • National Midseason Player of the Year by Dick Vitale: 2003[2]
  • Honorable Mention All-American by Associated Press: 2002[2]
  • Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year: 2002[2]
  • Missouri Valley Conference All-Tournament Team: 2001[2]
  • Missouri Valley Conference All-Conference second team: 2001[2]
  • Missouri Valley Conference All-Newcomer team: 2000[2]
  • Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman team: 2000[2]

McDermott is likely the second maybe the third best player to come out of Creighton.  Of course that is only if you do not count Bob Gibson, Paul Silas, Kevin McKenna, Rodney Buford or Anthony Tolliver.

I am being somewhat sarcastic, yet Creighton has a pretty good history...I just don't like'em very much.

Kansas has lost THREE in a row for the first time since 2005 and face Kansas St at home.

That is going to be an ELECTRIC crowd.

Losing to TCU is inexcusable....following that up with a loss to Oklahoma and then a loss at KSU and you're going to see torches and pitchforks in Lawrence.

At least you admit we are in your head.
