We are going to have to become a defensive team now.  We have to play elite defense.  Get the best combinations out there that can do that.  And then the reality is we are going to have to live and die with even more hero ball out of Palmer and Watson.  They are going to have to take more shots and they are going to have to play a lot better, especially Palmer.

Can we run some sets for Tom, too?

It feels like Nana has been hand-cuffed to only coming in and shooting threes. He is much more valuable than that. With Cope out, I hope we can see more of Nana and give him more of a role in the offense. He seems timid, much like Roby was in his first couple years and even first part of this year. I don't know if the coaches are telling him this is your role and you need to stick with it or what the deal is. But I hope they will let him play freely as he needs to get his confidence back. I am still baffled on how he did not take that one in on the baseline for the thunder dunk the other day when he was in. Again, it seems like he does not want to get scrutinized for trying to play outside of his role on the team. Tanner will continue to give us what he's been giving all year and that's solid minutes playing tough defenses and rebounding. He will get the occasional bucket off of the pick and roll which is always a plus but I think if we go small ball and get the most athleticism on the court that we can, we'll have a better shot. Of course we'll have to make adjustments during the game if that's not working but just my opinion.

He's been fairly balanced in conference with 10 shots from inside the arc, 17 outside the arc.

He's just straight struggling with his shot right now.

Agree.  If Nana comes in and doesn't hit shots, I would much rather have Amir getting those minutes for his defense and ability in transition.  I also wouldn't be opposed to Thor getting spot minutes here and there instead of Nana.

If Nana is hitting shots, he's really, really effective for us because he such a willing rebounder to boot, but he isn't a great lateral defender and shouldn't be handling the ball.

I dont think Harris will see much playing time if Borchardt is playing alot.

It would bog down our offense to have 2 guys onnthe floor at the same time who you effectively dont have to guard outside 5 feet

Another thought on Nana.  A shooter has to shoot.  When Nana misses, he seems to shut down.  The dude can shoot, and we all know he can shoot.  He is sort of like Isaiah, he seems to hesitate rather than letting it fly.  Someone has to step up in the absence of Cope...perhaps more than one person.  But Tom, Nana and Isaiah can score, and likely need to step up their scoring for us to be successful.

Welp...losing Cope is a gut punch.  Soooo....

Others have to step up.

- Isaiah has to step up.  He is inconsistent and hesitates pulling the trigger.  We all can see that he can shoot the ball.  Quit hesitating.  Trust your stroke.  Step up young man.

- Nana has not found his shot for the past several games.  In fact he has provided a number of empty minutes.  He needs to step up big time.

- Tanner just needs to be Tanner.  He plays solid, fundamental basketball.  He just needs to continue with his role.

- Amir needs to grow up.  He played one or two minutes today, made two or three glaring mistakes and then moped on the bench.  He HAS TO pick up his game.

- Thor will need to play.  He has limitations, but he has shown signs of life, and we need that guy.  Perhaps he can be one of those pain in the ass guys.

- Cope, you are in my prayers.  Heal and be there for your teammates.

I think Tanner will be starting.

Yeah...

I am glad someone listened...

The one kid who seems to play with some reckless abandon is Thor.  Kid you not.  If you stuck around to watch the end of the games that he has been in, he is like a pinball bouncing around the floor.  I'm not sure that is good or bad, but he does seem to have the will and desire.

Anyone hear on how the Rehab is going?  He could that play at the next level somewhere.  Still feel bad for my man.

I had asked Glynn Watson Jr. about Cope in mid-June at the Nebraska basketball camp, and GW said that Isaac was rehabbing well. (And now that I say that, that's nearly 2 months ago, already.)
