Much agreed. Once we cycle threw a couple years with this rule I dont think you will see as many Clemson type situations. This rule is great for underclassmen and injuries.

Yeah, I was thinking it should be limited to FROSH, but then a situation like Will Honas' makes one wonder what the best solution will be going forward. The new rule probably will need a few tweaks....

I'm not going to criticize the Frost hire or the decision to terminate Riley. Not going to criticize the decision to fire Bo and hire Riley.

I felt Frost was a good hire at the time.  I'm not going to try to make any argument now that he either is or isn't.

What I do want to say is that I think he's made some mistakes with the locker room since he's been here.

I think it was a big mistake to diss the outgoing staff and criticize the "culture" he inherited.  You can talk about trying to instill a particular culture if you want to, but you can do that without telling the players that the coach they originally committed to sucked ass.

Notwithstanding the on-field results, there was probably a lot of loyalty the upperclassmen felt toward the prior staff and loyalty is a virtue.  They might take some of those "culture" comments personally and that might affect the degree of "buy-in" Coach Frost is seeing now.

Interesting take. I appreciate the insight. There's been two instances where opponents used Frosts' words against him, so I wouldn't be surprised if his own team did the same.

I think what we're seeing here is a split locker room of Riley's squad (some of whoch were players who had less regimented training and conditioning) and Frosts' players (who actively chose to play for Frost and knew what they were signing up to). And so now Frost comes in and places much more structured and intense training on these players who are no longer able to skate by solely on their innate talents.

We're not going to get over this locker drama until the critical mass of buy-in happens and the players themselves police their team just like they did in the '90s.

Honas is out for the year. Thanks to the new redshirt rule he will not lose a year of eligibility and will be a Redshirt Junior next fall.

...if he comes back healthy. and I certainly hope that is the case.

I do not necessarily believe we have a "split" locker room, but we certainly have players that do not believe to give what it takes.  They may say they do, but action is proving much louder than words.  When you have one or two players not buying in, their breakdowns create major issues.

Our lack of depth is not allowing the staff to do what is necessary.  But then again, I would rather have a couple walk-on's get beat while they are giving it their all, then watch gifted players simply go through the motions.

Better days are ahead, but sometimes what I see on the field leaves me really shaking my head.

I'm all about verified facts. This one has some substance to it, but take it with a grain  of salt. Someone associated with the program (who's been around before both Frost and Riley) mentioned that there has been some old coach vs. new coach drama going on.

That's where my note of locker room drama came about. Let's just hope it's not that bad.

I hope that you do not believe that I am doubting you.  The point that I was trying to make is that it doesn't take half the team to create the split.  It could be a few, but those few, depending who they are could spoil the broth.

I remember reading a quote from Casey Stengel, a pretty famous baseball manager.  He was asked how he managed 25 players and what his secret was.  Casey said something akin to the following: The secret of successful managing is to keep the five guys who hate you away from the five guys who haven't made up their minds.

Of course, that video was in the spring when optimism reigned supreme. Lindsey was recently passed over on the PR depth chart, as well as walk-on Kade Warner taking a starter's spot that Tyjon coveted. Oh well. Time to move on from Riley's ballyhooed recruiting prizes, who have almost all left the program, by the way.

Calibraska

This has always bugged me.  People mock Huskers fans for this thinking (erroneously, I believe) that we were trying to say that we were focusing on recruiting California heavily, perhaps exclusively, and the term Calibraska reinforces that stupidity.

But if I recall correctly the proper hashtag is Calabraska (meaning a pipeline of players from Calabasas HS) because of Riley's connections there.  Nothing more and nothing less.

At any event it looks like that is now finally a thing of the past.  Hopefully the haters can finally give that a rest.  But you know they probably won't.

Anyway, it's just been a peeve of mine and I just needed to get this out.

Yep.  Everyone talks a good game in the spring.  Like how Frost stated we have better than 4-8 talent.  And the fanbase in general thought this team would look much better due to hiring a staff that would come and shore up the X's and O's and get the team to show up to every game.  Hasn't happened.  I was one of those guys who thought we would look much better and get to 7 wins.  It's been a tough pill to swallow.

There are three main reasons this team has underachieved thus far:

1) Lack of self-discipline

2) Lack of self-discipline

3) Lack of self-discipline...and if there is a 4th

4) Failure to execute, in a large part due to lack of self-discipline.

With Frost going even as far down to the level of detail about the way they treat the cafeteria staff, I'm thinking lack of respect has to be somewhere on that list as well.

And now we are on to Frost’s ballyhooed recruiting prizes. HuskersOnline has reported that Greg Bell has left the team.

From what I have read and heard, this isn't a done deal quite yet.  He is not traveling this weekend, but final decision not yet verified.  But, in short, this is a bit perplexing or maybe concerning.  I can see Riley's recruits leaving, but when the staff starts losing its own players...it sort of makes you go hmmmm.

But hey, if they don't want to be here, if they don't want to put in the work, if they don't want to be part of the turn-around, then I wish the player(s) well.

We are definitely weeding out the players who do not want to be here.

So RB rotation is now Ozigbo, Washington, and Mazour??

If i understand the new RS rule correctly, we can still play Jaylin Bradley and Miles Jones up to four games each and still save a year of eligibility, right?

Based on the timing, gotta think its bc he got benched right?

Ozigbo started last game and played great so I am assuming hes the new starter at RB. Bell doesnt like that hes not the starter anymore and now wants to leave.

Could be more going on. But on the surface this is what it looks like.

Quite honestly I would rather give as many reps to Washington as possible. He’s the future. Not Bell. JMO

Held said in his presser that Bell did not take his demotion well.  Something akin to having his feelings hurt.  Only those directly involved likely knows exactly what is going on, but what seems obvious is the coaches are abiding by their statement that positions will not be given, they need to be earned.

If Bell's decision isn't final, Frost needs to look no further than Miles and make his decision final.

Same thing Jordy did to his teammates.  We let Jordy come back and he burned us.  In a sport where you have a lot more options than basketball, I say let Bell walk.

It's a whole lot easier jumping on the 12-0 UCF hype wagon than it is the 0-4 reality check. I'm sure some of these players thought they could just walk in and get wins rather than the reality of changing a culture and rebuilding a program.

If a guy doesn't want to compete to keep his job like he once had, so what. Time to move on, Bell was the stop-gap at RB anyway; Maurice Washington's the future at the position. It's going to be this way with that new 4-game "redshirt" rule, and it kinda sucks for the time-being.
