I was listening to Bahe yesterday and he was talking about how Nebraska never have spot up shooters.  Basically hyping Creighton guys like Wragge, but it got me thinking!  The last guy I can remember being deadly from behind the line was Conklin.  Not saying we haven't had any good shooters, just none that were a huge threat

Gallegos was good

Anderson was good

Jones was good

We need a spot up shooter, that needs to be able to play defense and stand behind the arc and hit 3's.  I know that is not Miles style, but I think we should incorporate that type of scheme into possible offensive change of pace

I think he should now focus heavily on getting his shot back, and play behind the arc instead of inside.  He could play some minutes at the 2 spot.  When he signed I was so pumped we had a 6'7 lefty that could shoot coming in.  I am still a little shocked we don't see him popping 3's left and right.  I think that is more his game then what we have seen, and with us having a true post maybe he could play more in the 2 or 3 spot?

Thoughts?

I think Nick knows if he was a great 3 point shooter he would get minutes. Unfortunately you can just decide to shot 45% from beyond the arc

Maybe with the commitment of jordy Nick will focus even more on his long ball.

I don't understand why people overlook Andrew White as a shooter just because he's more than a statue in college.  Not to discount these other guys but he hit 3s at a Marcus Perry-Cary Cochorn  type rate but did so much more as a player.

That is why I did not include him in the list.  White has more to his game, and don't want him in that role of the "Spot up shooter".  I was referring to guys that just spot up and shoot

We're not Creighton though; we don't shoot a crap ton of 3s that would necessitate this type of player. In fact, most all of Miles teams, even when they could shoot the 3 well, didn't shoot a lot of them.  Thus, you're talking about a philosophical change in our offense.  I think the argument can be made to do so and I'd love to ask Miles one day why his teams don't take more 3s (among other things).  However, finding a role for Nick Fuller, a guy who has made three 3s in two years doesn't seem like a great reason.

Can we win without this type of players?  I had to go back to 2010-11 to find this type of player on Kansas' roster. (Tyrel Reed)

It's funny, but when you mention Fuller and Creighton I envisioned when Fuller signed as a Frosh that he would be the type of player that would come down on the break and hit the 3 and be able to use his size if they put a guard on him and go into the paint. (kind of like the way Creighton plays) I thought he had the reputation as a shooter out of high school but now seems to be more of an inside/short jumper type.

I don't think our offense was built to allow spot up shooters to be successful. I think with the addition of a guy like Jordy and progression of multiple scoring threats that can change. Ideally you would have guys who could attack the paint, collapse the defense and kick it out to fuller or McVeigh.

I see McVeigh being more of a threat in this role than Fuller. I just don't think we will see meaningful minutes from Fuller for the rest of his career.

Nick is a great kid.  Fantastic ambassador for this program and this university.

But Nick is caught in a numbers crunch.

He's 6'7" but we have an abundance of players at his height who do better the things he's best at.

Sadly, though he's a terrific teammate and a great kid, I just don't see a lot of minutes for him, especially with some bona fide studs coming in.

I think it's important to have a zone buster on the roster.  Zone has been the way to beat Nebraska the past couple of years, so I get the reason for this post.

If we have one on the roster beyond AWIII, I'd say it's McVeigh.

The zone buster issue is yet another way Jordy can help us.  His presence can allow us to put out a zone-busting lineup of:

Watson/Webster (both serviceable from three last season).

Gill

White

Jacobson/Horne

Jordy

I'm 100% comfortable with Jacobson shooting threes, and I think Horne has that range as well.  That's 4 out of 5 that can shoot the ball.  White is deadly beyond the arc.  We aren't going to find a better shooter than that.

Gil takes and hits 3s well, just don't know the % of makes. His shot is not as smooth as White's but he makes em pretty well from what I have seen. And with his athleticism he can create his own shot from anywhere.

I thought the same thing while listening to Nick yesterday.  Apparently White is not a spot up shooter because the dude also wants to rebound?
