  1. It seemed like Roby got tentative on the defensive end as far as going after blocks maybe the last 5-10 minutes.
  2. I’m with you. When it comes to sports, I don’t believe it’s about correct steps always equal “success”, absolutes or determinism. It could have worked, it hasn’t. Things seemed to be falling into place for this thing to go upward (going into this year). Have the players bought in, is there unity, are there leaders and if so, are there good followers. You have to believe you can win every time you step on the field. You have to believe in the coaches and the coaches have to motivate. Look at scores week to week across the country, it’s crazy. Of course NU can be solid program again, just don’t expect the crazy top flight consistency that we were used to ALL those years. We gotta be realistic, we will likely not have that. The current landscape doesn’t lend itself to that. Work for it, believe it can happen sure (and sometimes it will). I hope we get a great guy in here and get competitive again no doubt. I hope we have stability for a while, but there will be some ups and downs and lopsided scores once in a while. I hope we have some context. Call me a pessimist, say I’m lowering standards. Look around college football. Context, I’m being realistic. Shaky AD’s and shaky coaches, let’s make a great hire and have some solid success again ! But let’s also be solid supporters, realistic and patient. I have no doubt that with the right hire and some decent fortune, we could have a pretty solid team next year. But who knows there may be some tough growing pains next year too. One thing is clear, in this day and age, it’s time to move on.
  3. I just glanced at his numbers Jr and Sr year of college. Jr year 18.8 and 14.4 and his Sr year 27.4 and 15 bds !!!! Are you kidding me-those are crazy combined numbers. Sr year became the first player to lead country in both scoring and rebounding in same year. I also just found out that he started shaving his head and eyebrows in college in order to look more intimidating (according to wiki).
  4. He was still in college in the early 80’s—fwiw.
  5. I liked the impromptu dog pile/scrum/fumble recovery drill !
  6. Yea that phrase got Ross Perot in some trouble.
  7. So we get to watch the Huskers practice for 2 hours. Does it stinking get any better than that??
  8. I noticed that too and felt bad for him. But 'dimes pointed out he forgot to talk about Isaiah too. So I guess that's a little better ?
  9. Lang's Friday night random thought...anyone remember Johnny Benjamin (sp?) ?
  10. I remember Scales as a little taller and more wirey. Very solid, under control and smart but not a lot of flash. Real steady and consistent. I think Glynn's body is more compact and muscular. A more explosive, exciting athlete capable of making wowser plays and being very exciting in the open court and going off for big games.
  11. Wow, Tanner has come back to the team with a vengeance. Miles hinted quite awhile ago that Tanner was putting in work and could be in the mix. Props to this young man for working so hard.
  12. Does anyone know this quote ? " I get Stetson, which one is she ?"
  13. Johnny Trueblood and Tanner Borchardt BOTH return to the program after being walkons and leaving the first time. Can anyone ever remember that happening before with any walk on ? Now we have two that have done it. I'm glad they are back, number 1. Number 2, I'm going to be a glass more that half full guy on this and say that this is a positive statement about Miles and the program.
  14. Alex English? IIRC, he was more of a George Gervin type athlete and player. Not at all a Darrell Griffith, Dominique Wilkins, Dr J get off the floor and soar kind of player.
  15. Tanner B baby...coach said it. Don't count him out !
  16. I'm with you Norm, wouldn't that be something ? He was the most dazzling player on the floor the night of that scrimmage. We're due for something unexpectedly good to happen haint we ??
  17. I think Garner was the JUCO player of the year ?
  18. Cookie is easily one of my all time favorite Husker hoopsters....in case you care
  19. Speaking of Sam Hill....one of the meanest, orneriest, and funniest signs I ever saw at the Devaney - "Where the Sam Hill did you get those ears?". At a game vs Iowa State, who had a player named Sam Hill ( who happened to have some pretty big ears ).
  20. Looks like he'd have to sit a year to me. He finished juco career and was on the market last year this time and played his Jr year this year.
  21. You've crystalized our thoughts well cwg !!
