Yes. Likely will have two open. Fans are not concerned at this point. The team also has the benefit of a walk-on or two that earned playing time. Most teams will play with a 7, 8 or 9 player rotation. The other players will only play mop up, or if there is an injury. Last years men's team did get hit by injuries. But then, a strange thing happened. Team culture and player character stepped to the forefront. Arguably the "team" played better down the stretch as players played well and played within their roles. That kinda-sorta brings me back to my original thought. Having a full roster can be a good thing, IF the players all buy in and accept their roles. But man, that has become difficult these days. Players are told from a very early age how special they are. They are stars at every level they have played at. They (and their support group) expect to be played; and when they are not played, or not played in the role that they wish to play in, they are unhappy and perhaps disruptive. Then you have the increased influence of NIL money, transfer portal and social media influencers, and you have headaches aplenty. So getting the right players, who fit the team profile, becomes more important (in my humble mind) than simply filling a scholarship quota. But that again is just my opinion.3 points -
I believe that who starts at the beginning of the season will be different than who does at tournament time (not including injuries. The Greece trip will really help chemistry both on and off the court.1 point

I really do not think in terms of 13 being short staffed. A small rotation would be 7 people getting minutes. A big rotation would 9 people getting non mop up minutes, so 13 is not a bad number to me at all. The only reason I'd fill 15 spots is so I could redshirt and give more time developing. The portal really should be about filling needs and people filling those needs being ready to roll. For that reason taking a ton out of the portal really does not make sense to me unless they are Freshman or Sophomores1 point -

Agreed - I think MD could advance with the perfect situation, like a hitter friendly ballpark. But they'd need a lot of good luck to get the right matchups. I hate to say it, but Iowa might be the team that has the best chance to advance out of a regional - they can win a lot of different ways. Have to go vomit now.1 point -

Hell of a baseball game, but what a gut punch loss - to pitch that well against that team for 9 2/3 innings and then to lose it on a HR that scrapes the back of the outfield wall was crushing. The work on the mound brought back memories of what NU did to Arkansas in that first regional championship game a couple years ago, except I think this MD team is better offensively than those Hogs. Shay was sooooo close to getting through that 10th 1-2-3, but MD's hitter managed to keep fouling good pitches into the seats before he finally got a slight hanger and put a good swing on it. Jace was as good as he's been all year - he stayed up in the zone, knowing the ball wasn't going to carry at night in that park, and MD played into it. His off-speed stuff was great, too. Ultimately, we just couldn't hit fastballs last night. Dean for MD was mixing things up very well, as he had his off-speed stuff working nicely, but we just didn't seem ready for the fastball in the zone from any of their pitchers. I thought we had a lot of late and indecisive swings on fastballs. That's really disappointing. At this level, you have to punish fastballs when you get them in favorable counts. Also HATED that we brought the infield in on Shaw when he singled up the middle to tie it at 1. Should've been an RBI groundout with the infield back. If you have a chance to hold MD to a single run in the middle innings, you take it, rather than risking giving up a crooked number. Now Jace - eventually - worked around the trouble and kept them to a 1, but maybe we could've gotten another inning out of him if we play that inning safer. I will admit that I hated it at the time because I was sure there was no way we were winning that game 1-0, yet, had Shaw hit that grounder directly at Matthews, we might've gotten out of that inning with a zero and potentially could've won 1-0, so maybe the coaches actually know what they're doing more than me. Still, I hated the decision in the moment. The game nearly got away from us right there. Pretty much next to impossible to get to Sunday at this point, let alone win the whole thing. To have any shot, the offense has to crank up big time, and we're going to need unexpected dominant pitching performances from guys like Brockett, Sears, Walsh, Perry, Bunz, and Christo. Each of those guys does have a great performance in them, but they all have to do it now. No room for error. Weird things do happen in this tournament, and our offense generally has punished pitchers once we get past the top few guys on a pitching staff, but it's a tall, tall hill at this point.1 point -

I do have to say I haven’t seen any big 10 team that will get out of the first round. Might not even win a game. This year is just down all around.1 point -

I thought Bryce's 1st at bat was hit just as well, and ended up being a fly out at the wall. Maryland had 2 balls that were hit probably hit just as well. Both balls were caught on the warning track.1 point -

After NU didn't catch the foul ball pop up, I had a weird feeling that would spell doom. It did. A 2-1 loss in 10th inn. on a walk-off HR. Bummer. Need to re-group quickly while Maryland gets yet another day off, must be nice to be the #1 seed.1 point -

Thank the home plate umpire for Burnham's strike out. He hasn't called pitches anywhere near there for strikes on the 1 - 1 pitch.1 point

When these douche bags decide to resume this game, whether tonight or tomorrow, Nebraska beats these pricks the conference picked to win. I hate the B1G as much as I hated Texas.1 point -

The men need more players because of the need to be able to scrimmage so they carry numerous walk-ons. The women have a team of mens players to be able to scrimmage against. It is a lot harder to get female players to walk on than mens players to walk on.1 point

I would only respectfully say...ask Coach Hoiberg "what could it hurt?" Perhaps adding that depth could be helpful. But it could also destroy chemistry. When the men's team picked up Bando and Sammy G before last season, it certainly was necessary and productive. That team had specific needs and those needs were filled by the referenced additions. Two of those needs were leadership and attitude. Conversely, the prior years they picked up guards that destroyed team unity. So, to simply pick up players for depth, may not prove beneficial. We need players for specific roles and they need to fit in and play team first basketball. A few of those players are likely out there; but I would much rather go with a shorter bench then to bring in ill-fitting players.1 point -
I remember us dressing 8 players for some games this past season. Wouldn't it make sense to pick up a couple 'one year' eligibility transfers, even if they are marginal players? What could it hurt?1 point

Mike McGee played in the late 70's at Omaha North. The dude was the best I had seen to that date. He went on to play college ball at Michigan and was then a first round choice to the Lakers.1 point
