It's early in the rebuilding process. Certainly not taking longer than I expected. It's hard to fathom how anyone could have realistically expected it to happen faster. We finished last 2 out of 3 years in conference, after more than 10 years of futility. The new staff wasn't in place until April, so other than transfers, there wasn't anything out there to sign. And April is a late start in this day and age for the next class, most of whom sign in November. Unless we were going to go with a Huggins-type approach, it was going to be a long, slow climb to respectability. It's actually ahead of where I thought it would be, and I think next year we will see better results. Experience is important at this level and we didn't have any, through no fault of this staff. I'm shocked with the lack of patience expressed by many of our fans.2 points

Astonishing. This is only their 2nd season in D1. Their roster has no players with any Rivals recruiting stars, let alone Rivals top 150. Their two best players are both from Omaha (North and Creighton Prep) and neither got a sniff coming out of high school from either of the other two D1 schools in the state. Their head coach is a Nebraska kid who graduated from Wesleyan more recently than some of the kids on his team were born. He's been there 8 seasons and he's already the 2nd all-time winningest coach in their program's history. And Kenpom has them more highly ranked right now (119) than our highest ranking all of last year (127). They'll probably hit a rankings skid when they go through their league as they'll take a big hit on their strength of schedule. But GEEEEEZ. Major props to UNO men's basketball. If they manage to win their league this year, that coach is going to find himself really quickly in a job that pays the big bucks.1 point -
Had a minute, so I thought I'd take the chance to acknowledge the passing of one of the great rock and roll legends, Phil Everly. Miss chatting with you guys on a regular basis. GBR!1 point

It'll be interesting to see how the boys respond.

I agree.. and Ohio State at home is a huge home test, but look at last year. We nearly pulled that one off at home. For once we may just have a place that we can actually have other players say... "man that was a pretty tough enviornment." I wouldn't call it a test. It's extra credit. We're not measuring ourselves against teams like that yet.1 point -

I think Shields is combatting a couple of different things. In a sophomore slump, you usually have a guy who played well as a freshman who struggles when asked/expected to take on an increased role after whatever seniors on the prior team depart. With Shields, the problem is that we've brought in some guys who compete with him for touches and, whereas last year, you didn't have to be assertive to find your touches, this year he has to be. Last year, he had no option. He had to be that guy. This year, the team can find points in other places and Shavon is getting lost in the shuffle on the offensive end a little bit. Shields remains a solid player. He and Petteway need to figure out a way to compliment each other. I think they will and I think Shavon will be fine.1 point -

Well, I did and let me tell you, it was a pretty pedestrian performance by the Wolverines for the most part. If we have the kind of effort we did in the Miami game I think we boatrace 'em.1 point -

That was a good KU game. Can you believe KU's freshman center? Only 3 years of organized basketball and they're already talking about him being the overall #1 pick in the draft (perhaps not the NEXT draft but one of the next ones.) His shooting form is darn near perfect. He's a freshman, in a big game, with KU trailing, he's at the line and drills two perfect free throws with terrific form. Nice looking stroke. 7 foot center from Cameroon. Three years of organized basketball.1 point -

Jeez. Alright, who has been going around and peeing in everyone's cheerios? Man, if you ask me, this team is ahead of what I expected them to be at this point. We have a lot of pieces put together and going by where we came from...I feel like we're probably just a little ahead of schedule. Also, in watching other B1G hoops games this afternoon, I don't see a whole lot of separation between us and the rest of the bottom 6 or 7 teams in the league. (FYI, RealTime has us going 8-10, which would put us pretty much at an NIT lock...so there is that.)1 point -

Holy Mackerel. UNO is higher now than we were all of last year? Can I be reading that right? That is astounding. Their coach, by the way, gets paid right at or slightly more than $100,000/year. And no car deal. And they've been D1 how long? That is very impressive to me. Good for them. A 2nd team in Nebraska that I can cheer for.1 point -

Watching SMU right now, and their bigs are quicker and lengthier than what Leslee is. So maybe Leslee wasn't going to get as many minutes there. But Leslee needs to play every game like he did today! Fantastic to see him play like that.1 point -

Here's what Jeff Walz, Sanderford's top assistant at the time told me on the recruitment of Wecker. Nebraska had 3 scholarships to give that year. Jina Johansen committed early in the spring leaving two more. Sanderford spent a lot of time that summer in South Sioux playing golf with Robinettes dad. So basically he knew he would get her. They thought for sure the third scholarship would go to Wecker as they thought they had her in their back pocket. Here's what Walz told me about Wecker. She decided she wanted to play volleyball also and wouldn't come to NU unless she could play volleyball too. Sanderford tried to set it up with John Cook to where she could play both sports. Only thing was Cook said the only way she could play volleyball for him was to only play volleyball and not basketball. In other words he didn't want her as a volleyball player. Hence she chose KState. Jordan Hooper's recruitment schools came down to Nebraska, Colorado St, Wyoming, K-State and Colorado. She visited Stanford and they offered her a scholarship but she didn't like the idea of being that far away from home. She was very close to picking either Colorado St or Wyoming as they were closer to Alliance than Lincoln. In the end Nebraska's constant recruitment of her caused her to commit to the Huskers. If you can remember her senior year when they played Seward in the second round of the state tourney Yori and the Nebraska team delayed the plane they were supposed to catch to OK State to see the end of that game. The reason being Kristin Holt the Colorado St head coach was at every game Jordan played that year in the state tourney. But Yori's biggest competion for Hooper came from Husker volleyball coach John Cook.1 point
