When first opened, the Vault did win the Athletic Business periodical's "Best New Arena" vote. Husker Hoops is in a very good spot with roster management (and recruiting going forward), geographically (in the Railyard) as well as conference affiliation (B1G>>>Big 12). Although, I do miss those matchups with KU, which seemed like a measuring-stick for Nebrasketball (and even though it was not usually a great game for NU, every once in a while it was a GREAT game & enjoyed immensely!).

I've been to KU home games twice in my lifetime and it is one of the greatest venue's for college basketball.  Not sure how anyone could attend a game there and not leave at least somewhat of a KU fan.  Their fans are incredible and the atmosphere is amazing.  Their home environment is what makes college basketball so special.

I've been to many games at Allen and Hinkle and a few at the Pinnacle so have that going for me. Thought Omaha might rate, but maybe the writer failed to visit the cocktail lounge.

Hallways were too wide, jimmy...

Speaking of old arenas with some panache, I was always fond of the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City. It was eventually replaced by the Kemper Arena which I never liked. It was the site of the Big Seven Christmas tournament where Ted Owens once kicked a metal chair into my teenaged leg (he apologized). The national NAIA tournament was played there for many years and I saw Zelmo Beatty and Dick Barnett. It also was where the 1957 NCAA championship was played which North Carolina won against Wilt Chamberlain's KU team in 3 overtimes-I think it was only carried on a local tv station.

Not sure why the Carrier Dome is so high... Yeah, I know, it holds a lot of fans but I can't imagine it's a great place to watch a game.  And I think Williams Arena (Minneapolis) belongs on that list somewhere.

I agree, the Barn ought to be top 15-20.

That's quite a story, Jimmy.  A Big 8 Holiday tournament game?  Were you sitting behind the bench??

I was fortunate to see several BB games at Phog Allen back in the early 80's during the Ted Owens era...great atmosphere, but nothing like today as the Jayhawks were in a down period.  The old Mike Ahearn Field House at K-State was an experience and seeing NU in the Coliseum was memorable during the Tom Baack, Stu Lantz, Grant Simmons days.  Worst arena?  Frank Erwin Center in Austin, TX.   It is in it's last period of use and a new arena for just basketball will be built.

Still is, jimmy.

Yes, cager, somehow my dad wrangled tickets right behind the KU bench and Ted disgustedly kicked one of the bench chairs and was probably afraid he would get sued for damaging my precious pin. And I didn't know they still used the place. I guess it will stand forever with all of the Pendergast concrete and probably some gangsters rumored to have gone into it. I liked sitting in the balcony which seemed to be looking directly down on the court.
