Just eyeballing it and not counting exhibition, I think 21-8.  Perhaps I'm too optimistic.  I'm going on the assumption we have people healthy and Shepard will be able to play immediately.  I broke it down to 9-2 out of conference and 12-6 in conference.  I'm also assuming we will get stronger as the season progresses.

Off the top of my head, I've got Shepard, Havers, Blackburn, and Washington getting significant minutes.  Also Theriot, Romeo, Clark, Cincore, Simon with significant minutes.  I'm hoping Theriot gets decent rest in games so that she can play the whole season injury free.  Would like to see Wood and Ramacieri getting some minutes, especially if Wood gets hot from 3 point land.  Would also love to see Kalenta and Ostrander, but I have my doubts since I haven't heard anything about Kalenta in the media and I know Ostrander won't join until after VB.

As of right now, I'm not missing the Page sisters, and I had kind of forgotten that Chandler had left the team.  Wish Chandler the best.

My uneducated guesstiment.....optimistic as always.....who needs to be, to real at this point.

Like huskercode said...around 21-8, 20-9....maybe better? .....and optimistically,  I hope they make the NCAA tourney.

Still believe if Rachel T and Shepard are full speed we will have a great chance at surprising some teams, ...and prognosticators. The couple of current injuries hurt the guard spots.

Got  to get 3 or 4 more of the newbies to contribute ASAP.......Rachel B, Ostrander, Washington, Clark, Maddie.   We'll probably miss Jazz, Her experience, if only a years worth, would have helped early.  How the young ones gel is pretty much key to our success.

I really hope we can get floor time for the rookies, in the preseason.

B1G Starters: Rachel T. Havers, Romeo, Shepard, Clark (maybe)...Cincore probably would have started ?

Could have used the players that left, only in the sense of filling certain spots on the court,,,,otherwise we'll move ahead.

Looking at the roster it's apparent why Yori's recruiting for the back court. Just need more bodies to add to the competition. Some good guards will graduate in next couple of years.

Let the fun begin.  Starters for first exhibition game.  Theriot, Romeo, Simon,Havers, Blackburn.  Biggest positive surprise of the year will be Blackburn.

Might be able to add Washington as bit of a surprise.....it will finally be her chance, after sitting the pines for a year.  Curious how Ostrander might do too. Well I think.

Washington apparently learned during her redshirt year what it would take to make a contribution as she seems primed for some playing time and appears to be a good rebounder and shot blocker and physical defensive player.  Ostrander has shown her ability to wait for her opportunities as they arise in playing high level VB competition.  She plays right side, left side and middle blocker while Haggerty recovers.  She is a leader and captain and one tough individual.  Yori will find some way for her to contribute as we get in conference with some of the bruisers we will face.

I think you are right on Blackburn, She will be a pleasant surprise.

well, now that i am not "hyperventilating" over husker football, and, can breathe a little easier, i will throw my 2 cents out there. as stated in an earlier thread, i figured huskers would be in that 8-3, 7-4 area for the non-conference. i will go with 7-4. the road games with UConn and Cali will be awful tough. pretty sure Cali lost 2 real productive players to graduation and i also believe one got booted off the team. still, i think they may be one of the top athletic teams the huskers may face all season. i watched a couple of Cali's games last season and very impressed with their athleticism. plus, i just think huskers may drop a couple of games just due to youth/experience and the injuries.

i am going to say huskers will end up 11-7 during the Big Ten season. where that would put them in the standings in the end, it's really hard to say. i do expect Maryland and OSU to be the "cream of the crop" when it's all said and done.

taking from articles i have read about the injury, plus coach yori's comments, i am really not sure how much KC may be able to contribute. i sure hope she is able to make a big contribution, but, i think it is a pretty big ? mark. won't be too long and we may get a taste of what her season may look like.

i listened to coach cook's comments on alicia ostrander and he believes husker nation may be pleasantly surprised at what she will be able to contribute to the huskers. he believes she could become a "dennis rodman" for the huskers. wouldn't that be sweet!!!

so, imo, adding front court youth and injuries i just look at 7-4 ooc, and 11-7 big ten. that will leave the huskers to pick up a couple of games to hit that 20 mark season for the 5th time, i believe. i mirror many fans thoughts, that this will be a very good team as the season progresses. very possible many of the losses may come fairly early.

let me finish by saying, for the obvious reasons, wouldn't surprise me if this turns out to be one of those "nail-biting" seasons on whether they get to the big dance. i do hope i am wrong because i really want to see rachel theriot play in the ncaa's on her senior year---not to mention the team, of course.

heard from from a pretty good source that practice is going fairly well right now.  specifically heard that kendall is reasonably healthy and is starting to play pretty well.   fans will love her because she competes her tail off every second of every play.

Heard Jess is getting healthier and is a load inside unlike anything we have had in a while as far as a post game is concerned.

I hope we have a really good run this year with Jess on the team... I would love Yori to be able to get a couple more top 20 players to play at Nebraska because Jess is on the team!!  I think with all the good athletes we have on the team this year plus having jess at a post that will get a lot of attention we should be a pretty good inside out all around team!!

I really think we could be a nightmare for other teams in the sense that who do they guard closely?  They are going to have to guard EVERYONE and not double-team like we have had in recent years.  I also think that there won't be a big drop-off when subbing, at least not once everyone gets some experience under their belt.

Do you think that the team will face more double teams or zone defense ?

I think if she is able to contribute by shooting a good percentage from 3 and be feisty on defense, I sure hope she can be the 2nd coming of Kaitlin Burke- they are probably about the same height.

Kind of depends on how soon Jess might be able to dominate inside. (assuming she can)  Other teams may have to pick their poison..... on how they try to defend her and the other strong

shooters  (I think we will have other scorers this year,...both Rachels, Romero, Clark, Havers+ more)

Jess and the other posts must learn to play together.....pass...and shoot.....give and go

If Jess turns out to be what we hope she will develope into....other defenses will have to do some double teaming on her. If so, it will really open up the inside for open shots by Havers, Blackburn, Washington etc.

Plus it'll make man coverage more difficult for covering the other 4 on our offense. Probably go to zone, with double team of Jess. (it's all assuming Jess gets up to speed)

Jess may help to get some defenders to foul out....she no wall flower...will take it to the hoop.

We have the potential to be very troublesome to other teams....for Jess's next 4 years at least :D  Ain't it great !

Wouldn't be surprised to see some oddball stuff like box-and-1, diamond-and-1, triangle-and-2, etc.

With so many potentially good options in the front court, I'd love to see how we'd look using Horns or something similar. A lot depends on how well our bigs can pass.

Thought I would bump this thread since we only have 3 games left. If we can win all 3, and that is possible since all 3 are at home, then we wind up 20-9. I had originally thought 21-8 if we could keep everyone healthy. Considering there have been health/injury issues again, we are not too far off from some preseason predictions.

I wonder if it might be better if we aren't a top 4 seed in the Big 10 tourney because it would give us the opportunity to play an extra game and put another win on our record.
