Considering Nebraska beat Tennessee by 11 less than a week ago makes one wonder why TN is at #92 and NU at #97?!

Hmmmmm.....

Head to head does not matter in KenPom. All games are considered equal. If Team A has played 10 games and Team B has played 10 games, even if they have played each other, that game will only count 1/10 toward the overall rating for both teams (actually less than that because earlier in the season, the ranking is still credibility-weighted against the preseason ranking).

Thanks for the explanation, '9er & Actuary. I wondered about the nuts & bolts of that KenPom. It just seems 'wrong' at the moment; Guess it'll work itself out over the long haul of the season...

The idea is that in basketball, you get many more data points over the course of the season to judge how good a team is. In football, you only get 12 games. Therefore, head to head will by default need to be more used in football when comparing teams.

I understand the nuanced difference between sports. KenPom is the guy who places a heavy premium on prior years' results, which seems set up for early-season failures, IMHO. Like I wrote earlier, I'd guess that will all work itself out in the long run.

You oughtta know what they call me on that 'other' board!  (but I'll never tell!  redface.gif)  (ps; it's not Walter.)

What other board? The bluejay board?!

You know, Toronto's baseball team. And an eastern Omaha team as well.

No, that's not right. the team in Toronto are the Blue Jays. The dictionary, nor any other reference location has any entry for what a Bluejay is.

RPI Forecast has the URI game as a pick 'em right now.  50% chance of winning with a 0.1 point spread in our favor.  They also predict an NU win total of 15 or 16.  Gonna be rough sledding to the NIT unless things turn around in conference play I'm afraid.

I think one difference is, last year we were a team that seemed to get worse as the season progressed.  This year I think we will get better with each game.

I do like our chances vs Rhode Island.

1) @ Home vs Away  (when was the last time an opposing crowd rushed the court after defeating us?)

2) A critical game to win for our post-season prospects.

3) Motivation to avenge last year's last minute OT loss (and, in my mind the start of our slide, & URI's rise).

4) A lot of players on this team well-remember last years loss.

5) And don't forget (former) coach Burno's ties to the Hurleys.

This could be our wake-up call, after losing to Creighton the way we did.

Not much change this week.  We're on the verge of sliding up another spot in the B1G order of things.

Interested as to why we are not in the top 100?  We do not have a bad loss, and we have two pretty good wins.  One of which is on a neutral floor.

Probably because 5 of our 7 wins are against teams with a 300+ ranking, and we are only 2-4 against the top 300.

1-4 against the top 60.  1-3 against the top 50.

How we win or lose matters just as much as whether we win or lose for these ratings

Inexplicably, I believe Northwestern jumped to #56 in this mornings rankings (as of end of Sunday's games) and Ohio State fell to #71.  (More potential victims for the improving Huskers.)

According to his 'about me' it looks like he has the potential for some Big Ten bias (whether there is or not): "To be clear: I am a fan of the Baltimore Orioles, Miami Dolphins, Arizona Coyotes, and Purdue Boilermakers in the US..."

Did you look at this website, though? It seems to involve a fairly involved formula.
