Texas AD Steve Patterson: Rick Barnes must fire assistants or be fired himself - Burnt Orange Nation

For a school that always airs their dirty laundry publicly with a semi-successful television network, you'd think they would have put that chocolate and peanut butter together already.

It's a chickens#!t way of going about it for sure.  Patterson can't fire Barnes because he's been to the tourney every year but one since (I believe I heard this morning) 1995.

But he can't maintain the status quo either because Barnes hasn't been past the round of 32 since (again, going by memory) 2008.  Which is damn near criminal considering the talent level he has around there consistently...

Stop me if this is starting to sound familiar *cough* 9 wins *cough*.

But man, the buyout is $1.75 million and goes down to $1.5 on April 1st.  For Texas that's like a rounding error.  The boost in attendance next year from a coaching change alone will probably pay for that buyout.

Bobby Hurley and Bryce Drew are the current frontrunners for the DePaul job.

Buffalo coach Bobby Hurley still plans to interview at DePaul on Saturday despite a report that he has agreed to a new deal at Buffalo, multiple sources told SNY.tv.

“Yes, 100 percent,” one source said.

Don't do it.  Good coaches go there to die.  Everyone else just gets fired.

Ray Meyer was their head coach for FORTY TWO years!!!

A coaching career like that is just unimaginable today, unless your name is Krzyzewski or Boeheim.

DePaul is a train-wreck. They play in a suburban arena that's 30 miles from their downtown Chicago campus.

Yeah, I realized that was coming at some point (thanks for the link, 9er!) -- That suburban gym was an albatross for their program for a long while...  I recall Ray Meier in the 80's with those nearly undefeated Blue Demons were great, but, man oh man, how far have they fallen!

Unless memory fails me, Mark Aguirre and Ray Meyer were knocked out of the NCAA  tourney at BDSC.

Which year would that be?  Ray Meyer's last team (1984) won their only game in Lincoln & went to the Sweet Sixteen. Five of RM's last 7 teams lost either 2 or 3 games a year...

My memory did fail me, Auroran, since both Wake Forest and Depaul must have played at BDSC and met in St. Louis in the regionals. Funny, but I must have seen KU get beaten and totally wiped it from the old memory bank. But I do remember the Jayhawks winning the NCAA played at BDSC a few years later. If the tourney would ever return to Lincoln it would be a must see for anyone. Any chance that can ever happen or must it always go to Omaha now since it is so much less provincial than this tiny hamlet in which we live.

From what I have been told is that Lincoln doesn't have the right hotels to support an NCAA regional games rounds 1 and two

I do not recall the exact requirements, but at the chosen  sites, each team has to have a different hotel that has a minimum # of rooms and has a full service restaurant that is open a certain # of hours, etc. With the first sites having 8 teams that means they demand 8 of these hotels that are convenient to the venue. I think this hotel requirement is what holds Lincoln back.
