From a talent standpoint, how do they compare? This team went 18-13 and lost to Ha-vi-ee in the third round of the NIT.  As I compare, I think this team would actually beat our current team perhaps 7 games out of 10.  My point, we are still very much a work in progress as far as roster building.

Makes you wonder what Doc or Tim could've done with that lineup.  We were a Maric away from having all the pieces....I thought Turek was just a bit undersized as a Center in the Big 12....Wes really didn't come into his own until his jr/sr. year....Jason D always showed flashes at times....Corey Simms was like a poor man's Larry Florence....

Man I wish Nate Johnson had more time at NU....that guy could ball....

Wilkinson and Nate Johnson both would have done very well under Miles.  I think if Miles was coaching that 2003-04 team they would have been an NCAA team.  That is certainly a deeper and overall a more talented team than we have now.  Collier did have some good players, particularly early in his tenure but got in his own way coaching them at times.   Talent level went down gradually while he was here and steeply after he left.  Miles is working on building it back up - really has taken large steps in that direction.

Interesting perspective, and I'd have to agree.  But this goes against the all the conventional wisdom that Barry's recruiting sucked until Spinelli came along.  Personally, I thought Spinelli's recruiting was over-rated.  Unless I'm forgetting someone, Maric was the only valuable 4 year contributor that Spinelli was a primary recruiter.

BTW, I thought that '03-'04 Nebrasketball team was a fun one to watch... Charles Richardson, Nate Johnson, Jason Dourisseau, Wes Wilkinson, Brian Conklin, John Turek & Andrew Drevo all played at a fairly high level. Sprinkle in some Marcus Neal Jr & Corey Simms w/ a lil' Bronson Schliep and that was definitely an NCAA-caliber ball team. That's a pretty salty 10-man roster, not a Kentucky platoon but still a very competitive squad against most teams. What would Tim Miles & Co. have been able to get out of those guys w/ #GATA???

Yes, after studying that Roster, it seemed to have just about all the pieces.  I do remember thinking Turek was a bit undersized at Center, but he and Drevo played a whale of a game against KU.  I'll never forget that game.  First of all, Turek had a reverse put back dunk on KU.  Second, we absolutely destroyed the Jayhawks that year.  Third, Bill Callahan and staff were announced at halftime at the Devaney Center.  Huskers fans were cheering loudly.  Bill, in his closing statement, said "let there be no mistake...(looks down at his cue card) that there is no place like Nebraska..." and he said the last part very rushed and unpracticed.  Guy next to me shouts "outsider"....

Wrong year.... The put back dunk by Turek was 2001-2002 season.
