No they didn't.  That's a cruel joke played by highly sophisticated hackers who made it SEEM like we hired Mike Riley.

They have not hired Mike Riley.  They will not hire Mike Riley.

Any by the way I'm not laughing.  This isn't funny.

Shawn Eichorst better come out with a public denial like NOW!

Didn't mean he was Tim it is just that he was WTF kind of hire that many said the same things. As I have said I am here for the kids so doesn't matter, except if was Tressel. Because I think that would have been bad for all.

I agree with you, Silver.  I pretty quickly have gone from WTF?  to "oh, well, this is the guy.  I guess."

Instead of this being Tim Miles, though, for me personally, I'm hoping he's not so much Tim Miles as Terran Petteway.

You remember my reaction to signing Petteway?  Sight-unseen.  Just looked at his numbers from freshman year at Tech.  And I'm wondering why bother?  Can't we do better?  I'd say my reaction to Terran Petteway's signing, after just looking at his numbers, was more comparable to my reaction to this football hire than was the Miles hire.

And, so, I'll hope for similar results.

I had low expectations of Petteway coming in and look what he did.  Wow.  If we get half that kind of result in year one of Riley, I'll be thrilled.

Perhaps the big difference a coach has over the player is Petteway had to come in and work on his shot, gain weight/muscle and lose a lot of sweat.

Riley steps out of the VW and into the seat of our Ferrari and he can immediately be better!

We have a Ferrari?  Didn't realize they made a Ferrari that looked like an F-150 pickup.

I think the analogy of Riley at a Oregon State program to a serviceable VW going to Nebraska as a vehicle representing the Ferrari being real 'big time.' Personally, I believe Mike Riley has a lot of traits that served Tom Osborne well in dealing with his players. I hope that the staff brought in is GREAT so that Riley and the Huskers can get that 'hot' motor humming again! GBR

I know it was.

I also know after seeing numerous football facilities over the years, we are not an even close to an F-150...Maserati or Mercedes perhaps, but not a pickup.

...he actually rides a bike or drives a Prius... :)

Classic tweet by Brandon Reilly tonight advising coach to lock his bike up if he rides it to work.  Now that's some funny stuff right there.

Even better because he and Bando, have been team mates since Midget Football.

How about a Lincoln Navigator or a Cadillac Escalade?

Better, Norm. But please recall what a wise man once said...earlier today:

"It's one thing to take a program from the bottom to the top of a mid-major conference; it's another thing entirely to climb from the bottom to the top of a "major" conference. If a program bottoms out, it takes a lot of force to overcome the inertia.  Programs at the bottom tend to get stuck there."

So true, so I ask you: Who are the two coaches in NCAA D1 football that have done the most difficult turnarounds with morbid programs?

You are familiar with Bill Snyder and K State so I know you got that right.

Yet, there was one school even more inept than K State that holds the record for the longest streak of losing seasons by an NCAA school...you probably have a good idea by now...it is

Oregon State, 1971-1998. 28 seasons of incompetence and weak facilities.

Who came into that incompetence and lack of facilities and lead them to many winning season and bowl games?

I am sure you can guess by now.

Here is to "A LOT OF FORCE"

What's with that, trickey mention about a Ford... are you responding to someone else?

As I noted earlier, I think the analogy denoted above is apropos.

Yes, somebody else, whose name shall be Norm...who earlier stated:

I was initially torn on the hire.  My wife and many friends are Oregon State fans.  My first Oregon State game was their Thursday night upset of then #1 USC with Mark Sanchez.  It was fun to run out onto a field which is never thought of at Memorial Stadium.  I was starting to think for my second team that had hit a rough patch that maybe a change was needed.  I even thought Monday that Bo Pelini could be a perfect fit for Oregon State if they were to make a change.  He does better against the pass than the run which is obviously better for the Pac-12 and he was nothing more than consistent with win totals that people at Oregon State would be happy with even if it were 7-8 and not 9-10.

When I saw the tweet live today it completely threw me off guard.  I thought it was a mistake.  I was upset.  I thought what were they thinking, Riley is on the back 9.  But as it settled more I got to thinking about Mike himself.  I've met him twice and each time he was amazing.  Then I thought about every person I've met from Nike to the OSU frame guy that have always said Mike is easily the best coach theyve ever met.  I started thinking maybe a fresh start, with all the resources he needs, is just what the doctor ordered.  He has turned down many jobs in order to stay "home" and keep this once horrible program around to be an annual giant killer and good little program.  I thought about the recruiting gems he found and the battles he almost won and said imagine what he could do with more resources.  With the money and clout Nebraska has he can continue to find those players but be able to step up even in the quality of those players but also start winning those battles he lost out on.  We all remember Owa Odighizuwa that chose UCLA over us but the team that finished third was OSU.  Yes it was an in-state school but it goes to show that he has clout.  Our own Johnny Stanton has said that Riley was his favorite coach on the recruiting scene but obviously the perks of NU won out in the end.

I truly feel that in the end NU may have got the right guy, thought he may not have been the "best" guy.  He will help create an amazing structure, he will unite a fractured fan base, and lastly he will get his players to compete.  He may have lost some games they shouldn't have but we won quite a few he shouldn't have.  WIth better talent and hopefully better coaches he will overcome the first deficiency and continue on the success of the latter.

I hope that fans give him a chance because if they do, and he wins like he has shown he can do with talent, the future could be very bright and a lot of fun in Lincoln.

Sorry, as I was replying to your response to Norm when you did not "quote" him when he responded to my analogy.

I tried to treat this space as a forum and responded.  Sorry for the confusion and I will work to avoid this type of misunderstanding with you in the future.

Yet, I ask how did we get from agreeing on an analogy...to being upset about how I post?

Be cool, I enjoy most of your posts...except for this one.

OK?
