I'm just getting tired of looking at the same headers in this forum and too lazy to post in the proper place. These tidbits were gleaned from the LJS this morning. Feel free to comment on any you find interesting. Piece on the Bluejay's new practice facility says it is now one of the best in the "Big" East. Please note it does not state it is the best in Nebraska. Bet OWH gave a different spin. Looks like Korver stepped up to make this happen.

Roy Williams and UNC took a hit on academic fraud and keeping players eligible who have no academic skills. Best to not become too sanctimonious since this has been going on at every institution including those in this fair state for decades. All it takes is someone like McCants to get bitter with regret at missed opportunity and spill the beans.

KU students pushing for lowering seat prices to bb games from $25 to $6. Administration obliges by giving prime student tickets to donors and putting more students in the crappy ones near the rafters. This one goes in the "careful what you wish for" category.

OK, I did my best to break the monotony. I'm out.

Thanks, Jimmy.

On the subject of academics, I heard an interesting perspective a number of years ago from Lee Roy Selmon (now deceased) when he served as athletic director at University of South Florida--as impressive a speaker as he was a football player, by the way.  The essence of what he said is this: student-athletes who graduate tend to hold, in later years, a highly-positive view of their collegiate experiences; while those who do not graduate tend to hold a highly-negative view of their collegiate experiences and tend to believe that they were improperly used and abused by the system.

Very interesting idea, and I would say it might be very true.

Seems to be the attitude of so many people these days. Take no ownership for your own decisions, just conveniently blame someone else!

Any other school, grain of salt.  UNC? No.  They've been surrounded by this type of crap for years.

If you haven't seen this, I highly recommend it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w44_6hjp4Mo

It's on Netflix streaming.

The college athlete gets "nothing"? That's false!!! Room, board, tuition, books, medical assistance, a degree (if he/she performs properly), etc. I can speak from personal experience that such benefits are a long, long, long way from "nothing."

Perhaps the college athlete could or should get more. But to call a hundred thousand dollars of benefits (perhaps less in some contexts but dramatically more in others) is simply a falsehood.

Yeah had a buddy who didn't eat for two weeks so he could make rent, because he had to quit his job because of the heavy load he was carrying.

We, friends, would feed him when we could but he had nothing in his apartment but a bed and his clothes.

He had had a falling out with his folks a few years before and worked for awhile then went back to school. He did graduate and I think is still teaching school. Might not be a guy who would feel tooooo bad for athletes.

Also didn't Andre have a training table? take some food for later, can't believe they would have gotten after him about that.

They argue that side of things in the show too (actually Harvey Perlman is one of the people interviewed in the show to argue that side).  I recommend viewing it.

Dissing the Sunflower state? The drive from Western Oklahoma through Kansas is full of interesting stuff i.e. the Dalton boys hideout in Mead, the world's largest hand dug well in Greensburg (if it wasn't blown away in the tornado a decade ago) Eddie Sutton's hometown in Bucklin, boot hill in Dodge City, the Eisenhower museum in Abilene, Knute Rockne's crash site in the beautiful Flint hills, ... With all the interesting sidelights, it may take him a week to get here

Blue Jay practice facility is o.k. Not even really in the same league as the Hendricks. Nice facility, but it lacks that Wow factor.

Like another poster mentioned, had this been any other school I might have chalked it up to sour grapes.

Students need to be very careful when dealing with their respective Universities about student tickets for football and basketball.
