I assume from that description she is more of a "true post".  I like the idea.  We need some size in there.  Will allow Washington to work in more gradually.  This fires me up.

Well, who knows--maybe a stretch 4.  Either way, I like adding some more experience with the young talent coming in.  Might allow Havers to come along more slowly also.    Message board speculation center by HB tonight, since I never heard of this player until Row 6 posts it!  Row 6, you just keep bringing it!

ANYA “HANNA” KALENTA

I googled her and saw a little video, from her freshmen year.  Played there and at another school in her Soph. year.

By the short video it appeared she moves fairly well. Could drive to the hoop.......and did hit a 3 too. More than just a post player probably.

Looked tall and long...good hands. Not as strong as Hooper probably, but not as thin as Havers either.

No way to tell how much international play she may of had......at least I didn't find it in a quick search.  But she'll have some experience beyond high school.

She may end up being a nice add.  As a Juco she'll play this fall....making this a large class coming in.

Unexpected get.... but her inside presence could be a big benefit,  if she can quickly grasp Yori's schemes.

Just saw where Kalenta was recently named 3rd team Jr College All-American.

Her coach didn't really agree saying .....

“I find it hard to believe that there are 20 better junior college players in the country,” Meeks said, “but I want to congratulate Anya on being an All-American. She had an incredible season and I’m very proud of her. VU certainly appreciates everything she has done for our program.”

_______

Also found where she played on the Belarus national U16 team in 2010

The 2010 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship for Women was the 22nd edition of the FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship for Women. 16 teams featured the competition, held in Greece from August 12–22.

She was the top shot blocker (3.9 per game) in the tourney, had as much a 24 pts in a game.

Those are extremely strong numbers she put up.  If that's a guy doing that at Vincennes, he's high major material.  Probably a Rivals 4-star.  Don't know how well the stats translate from men's juco to women's juco, but a guy putting up those numbers would be extremely sought-after.  Especially in the spring signing period.

I would be in interested in knowing what offers Kalenta had. Her recruiting seemed completely under the radar. Did we get her to be a serviceable post defender, to plug in until Washington develops and/or Shepard gets here? Or is she a really good player who just by some miracle happened to be available? This one is interesting.

Just guessing...but her JC is about 100 miles from Indy where the B1G tourney was held.  Who knows ....could be Kalenta (and her coach) watched NU in tourney..... and contacted Yori ??

So she was right under the nose's of IU and PU, I wonder why they didn't land her ?

If she can run and shoot she will fit in fine with Connie's style.  The 6'3'' size is going to be useful.

My question is how did IU & PU miss on her or was she just not interested in them. But Hopeful she can add some punch and depth to go with iot.

From what I have heard is that the first JC she was at (Broward College in Florida) really jerked her around and had her taking underwater basketweaving type classes.  In the article it said she wants to pursue a career in Pharmacology- "jock" classes will not get to where she wants to go in life.  So she moved on from Broward to Vincennes.  At Vincennes she has had a lot of work to make up to be able to move on to NCAA next year.  I don't know if this is 100% correct but she had like 28 credits to take in this current spring semester and this summer to be able to qualify.

I can see schools just not wasting their time on someone that has so much work to do to be able to qualify. Maybe PU is set at that position?  I see at least IU had her in and was interested- obviously she was not interested in them.

Is that even doable this late in the ballgame? That's a heck of lot of credits to amass by next August.

Assuming she counts second semester classes, yes.  I passed 23 the last semester to graduate, and I was fat drunk and stupid.  With all the summer sessions it can be done without too many heroics.

Yeah.  28 credits in a semester and a summer?  Meh.  It might be Vincennes but it's still juco.  If she's serious enough about her academics to leave the Florida juco, she can certainly handle 18 credits during the regular semester and then grab another 10 over the summer.  Easily doable.

I took macro econ, micro econ, stats and algebra (12 credits) one summer at UNL and got straight As.

Can't think we would announce that she is N if all the ducks were not in a row.

But then there was that kid named Salley...

And that boy named Sue

Clinkscales, the football juco that needed something like 30 credits to get into Nebraska must have done it.  I saw he played in the spring game at KSU.  Go figure.
