No. 17 Huskers Hope to Knock Off No. 9 Penn State on Big Monday

The No. 17 Nebraska women’s basketball team takes aim at its eighth consecutive win when the Huskers take on No. 9 Penn State on Monday in Lincoln.  Tip-off between the Huskers and Lady Lions is set for 6 p.m.

The Huskers notched their seventh straight win to extend their overall February winning streak to 14 games with a 67-59 victory at Ohio State. Nebraska has won its three home games during its current winning streak by an average of 22.7 points per game. The Huskers have won their four road games by an average of 7.5 points per contest. Overall, NU has outscored the opposition 75.7-61.7 during the streak, while posting a plus-5.4 rebounding margin and a plus-3.4 turnover margin. Nebraska is 16-4 overall, including 7-2 at home and 9-2 on the road in February as a member of the Big Ten.

Coquese Washington brings Penn State to Lincoln on top of the Big Ten standings with a 12-2 record. The Lady Lions can clinch at least a share of the Big Ten title with a win over the Huskers.

PSU is led by an experienced backcourt that features three senior starters, including 2013 Big Ten Player of the Year Maggie Lucas. The 5-10 guard ranks second in the Big Ten with 21.8 points per game, while leading the nation with her 96.3 free throw percentage.

The Lady Lions average 75.7, while surrendering 64.9 points per game. Not only does PSU own a plus-10.8 scoring margin, but an impressive plus-7.3 team rebound margin. Penn State shoots 41.7 percent from the field, while holding opponents to 35.9 percent from the field. PSU is also the least-reliant team in the Big Ten on the three-point shot, making just 3.5 per game while hitting just 31.3 percent. But the Lady Lions hold the opposition to 29.4 percent shooting from long range. PSU has also dominated at the foul line, scoring nearly 500 points at the stripe this season.

Penn State leads the all-time series with Nebraska, 5-1.

Emily Cady ranks second in the Big Ten with 11 double-doubles on the season. Cady owns seven double-doubles in Big Ten play. A victory tonight will do a lot for our chances of getting a decent seed in the big dance. We have got to defend the three point line at all costs. We have got to get on the shooter and get a hand in her face. It has never been more critical than it will be in this one. They are going to be up in our guards faces pressuring the ball so the Huskers have to take care of the ball and keep the turnovers in the single digits. And rebound, rebound, rebound.

Sample might be the player of the game.  Play of the game was Hooper getting an o-rebound between 4 Lions and hitting T for a 3!

Anyone else concerned about the possibility of being sent to A&M as a 6 seed.  Maybe we should go to Ames as a 3 seed.  I'm not sure ISU deserves to be in the tournament.  Don't want to play the Aggies on their home court.  Seeding is a joke with the geographical limitations set by the committee.

Beat Illinois and beat Purdue!

Along with a lot of elbows to the chops of the Huskers and no fouls. PSU is another team in the BIG 10 that plays ghetto ball. I don't like PSU and I won't like them as long as Washington is the coach there. But I like Iowa less. Now back to the game Don't you think that as a coach when your team is sitting in a zone and a Player is throwing treys in with out a hand in her face you might want to change defense. Or am I just stupid

Did anyone get to hear Matt, Jeff and Lindsey? I'll listen later but I'm wondering if they said anything about the nuns seated directly behind the bench? BTN showed a shot of them.

I had to leave at half, wife got sick so I listened to the second half driving home and nothing was said then.

Thanks man. Bummer yall had to leave. Get well and all that.

That was fun.  We haven't missed many games since 1987, and this was one of the best performances I have seen.  Place was intense and we just came to  play.  It was great fun sitting a few rows behind T's mom, and watching her celebrate all of T's great plays.  So glad she made the long trip and was rewarded.   Great job by the coaches and players dialing up the D against Lucas.  Holding her scoreless in the first half was awesome.
