In the '05-'06 season, Barry Collier led us to a 6th place (top half) finish in the Big 12 with a 7-9 record.

In the '08-'09 season, Doc Sadler led us to an 8th place finish in the Big 12 with an 8-8 record.

Our best winning percentage in conference games since Danny Nee led us to a 10-6 record in 1999 was a .500 winning percentage under Doc Sadler in his 3rd season.

Could year 2 of Tim Miles produce the best conference record and best conference finish since Venson Hamilton was a senior?

Regarding getting the 4th place finish... I believe that if us, OSU, and Wisconsin (other than losing to us) win out and MSU wins the regular season title, we get 4th place and a first round bye.  http://www.bigten.org/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/100606aae.html

In that scenario, we're a lock. Otherwise, it's beneficial for us to not get a first-round bye and play an extra game (to win, of course) to help us out even more.

Someone has said this before (and here we go making this thread more NCAA bubble talk), but if we get a 4 seed we're in the tourney.

Anyway, we'd be in a 3-way tie for 4th.  Wiscy gets eliminated because they'd be 0-2 within that threesome, and us and OSU would be 2-1 with our series even 1-1.  Next it goes to each team's record against the #1 seed (UM or MSU).  We're 0-2 and 1-0, respectively, and OSU would be 0-1 and 1-1, respectively.  0-2 is considered to be worse than 0-1, so we fall to 5th if UM wins the league, but we get the nod if MSU is #1.

Maybe I did this wrong, though.

This scenario is so unlikely to happen, anyway.

Has the fourth-place finisher in the B1G regular season ever not made the dance?  That is, since going to a 64-team tourney?

2007 Iowa was tied for 4th with a 9-7 record. I don't think they made the NIT

Wow!

Were they just god-awful in the non-conference?

The Big Ten hasn't always been a great conference, either.  There were some pretty miserable down years...
