Was there a thread on this?  I saw that note that Pitchford was injured but I didn't see anyone point out that Miles was worried about the injury because Pitchford had been our leading 3-pt shooter both in terms of total makes and percentage.

Someone tacked it on to the Wagner thread.  I hope it's nothing to worry about.

Pitchford didn't play right? He's probably our most important player this year.

Also, it's a bad sign when you are criticizing the officials before the season even starts.

meh, it's what coaches do.  Plus, it sounds like it's a common refrain.

I think we, as fans, will love the brand of basketball played in the end.  As long as the NCAA and the conferences remain vigilant in holding the refs accountable to the new standards, the game will ultimately morph back into what it was originally designed to be .  It was never intended to be as physical as it's become.  It should be a game of flow and movement, and should be played and executed with anticipation and adjustment, rather than force and leverage.

With player evolution to a point where even the 18 and 19 year old kids are long, strong, and athletic, the offensive angles and lanes are constricted far more than when I played, based strictly on the physical attributes of the players.  The way the game was being called, allowing defenses to redirect offenses consistently, there were points where it was almost impossible to get any look at the basket that wasn't 22 feet and out.  That's NOT basketball.

I agree with other members above who are saying the players will figure it out, and will ultimately learn to play defense the right way.  Teams like Miles has typically put on the floor throughout his career, will excel and thrive in an environment like that, I think.  Precision offense and disciplined execution will be rewarded far more than the standard fare isolation and out-athlete-the-opponent type will.

All of this is exciting to me, and I believe should be for Nebraska fans in general.  We're well-suited to take advantage of this because we've got pretty skilled players, and it will serve to make the games more enjoyable to watch - if not immediately, at least eventually.  GBR!!

GOD I HATE MY IPAD WHEN I TRY TO GIVE POSITIVE POINTS. I totally agree with what you are saying did not mean to give you a negitive.

The foul issue is, apparently, widespread:

GoodmanESPN

One scrimmage this morning had 61 fouls and 86 free throws, another had 54 fouls and 68 free throws.

10/26/13 2:46 PM

GoodmanESPN

Hearing this over & over already from coaches following "secret scrimmages." Tons of fouls called. Expect a lot more ZONE defense this year.

10/26/13 2:45 PM

Is this the type of game fans will want to see though?

Absolutely.  The point of this is to open up the game and increase scoring.  There will be an adjustment period, but long term this needed to happen to college basketball

Well, there haven't been any Creighton fans posting in that thread, so from a moderation perspective, tacking it onto the Wagner thread is probably nothing to worry about.

I meant I hoped the injury was nothing to worry about.  If you took that in any other way, my apologies.

I knew what you meant.  I was just being a smartass.  Your "it" was a dangling modifier and I took full advantage of misconstruing the ambiguity.  It was fun.  To misconstrue the ambiguity, that is.  ;)

SDSU is pretty young and inexperienced themselves. They lost their stud Wolters and their 3rd leading scorer. They're picked 3rd in The Summit, not too far ahead of UNO.

Not saying we should be overly concerned, but it's not exactly encouraging either.

I think we will be fine.  We will know more after UNK, and even more after FGCU.  I would be interested on the mins played by each player for the closed scrimmage.  I would also be interested to see if Pitchford played.

No worries  ;)

I dont' think it's anything to really worry about.  Much like exhibition games I bet Miles played guys even minutes and through out certain lineups to get a look at how it could work.  Doubt Miles really even cares about the final score.

I wouldn't say it doesn't mean anything.  We can probably glean something from it.  Namely, this team is still a work in progress.

I'll be honest, I would rather be reading reports like the Huskers looked like they were playing at a much higher level than the Jacks.  But it is what it is (I hate that platitude, by the way, but it seems apropos here), we are a young team that has a lot of work to do, and the season is sneaking up on us...maybe too fast if you ask me.

The reality of this team this year is that we will have many ups, and many downs.  When you throw in 7 new guys to a roster, its going to take time to find that right rotation.  I am guessing some games we all get on this board and can't say enough good things about this team....then some days we will get on this board and say "What the hell was that?"

We are projected to start a freshman, 3 soph's and a senior.  Even the "big boys" who have all of the 4-5 star talent struggle early finding the right group to play well together.

I for one can't wait for this season.  I know it will have many ups, and many downs....but I think we are ten times more athletic than we have been in years and on some nights we will look damn good!  We just have to hope the damn good nights, happen more often than the "what the hell" nights.  :)

This.  Coach isn't trying to win a closed scrimmage.  He's trying to learn as much about his team as he can.  The point total is virtually irrelevant.

Just to kind of give everyone a little more solid indication of how irrelevant the score is in a closed scrimmage, in Doc Sadler's first season, we slipped by UNK for an exhibition win by the score of 74-72.  Twelve days later, we knocked of #20 Creighton 73-61.  So, tell me again how much the scores in those exhibition games matter.

So, Tony, why are they giving Creighton Fan all that crap?

That's what people on sport's boards do. Most "too involved" fans for any team will say whatever to make their team look great and to make other teams look "less than great." Plus they only really know about their team or the other local team that the local press will cover. In other words, to answer your question, "Who knows!?"

Could happen again this year. After all, that's why they play the games.

Past performance does not guarantee future results, Norm.

Just sayin'.  :)
