The Coach Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 Here's one of his games. Again very impressed with his shooting touch from the free-throw line. Also seems to be a very good passer. Quote
49r Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 He lost the tip. He'd be PERFECT for Nebraska! HuskerActuary and Norm Peterson 2 Quote
ajb5856 Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 I've read several quotes by people in the Elbert camp saying basically that Elbert wants to 'blaze his own path'. Elbert hasn't come out with a list of finalists or anything but it seems like he has Nebraska, Georgia Tech, TCU, Texas A&M, and Ohio State. He also likes SMU quite a bit. It's tough because he's from Texas and about every school from that state has offered. So he's taken unofficials to quite a few of those schools and they may be on his short list without him wasting one of his 5 officials. I found it interesting that he set up a visit to Louisville and then canceled it. It may have been that he was a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th option for Louisville though. Many top programs have offered him. Kansas, Florida, Georgetown, Ohio State, Louisville...but I wonder how many of those schools Elbert is a top target for. I feel good about being on the list with the teams that it seems we are up against. I like our chances here. If Elbert wants to blaze his own path he might as well do it here. Quote
ajb5856 Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 I liked this from an Ohio State recruiting article: "The only thing missing from this class is a big man. Enter 7-footer Elbert Robinson. The center from Lakeview Centennial (Garland, TX) High School narrowed his list to three schools in May, but has since backed off of that list. Robinson is planning to visit Georgia Tech this weekend, and will even take a trip to Nebraska." Yes, even lowly Nebraska is worthy of an official visit. His top 3 back in May were Louisville, Ohio State, and Georgetown. Come on, Kenya. Quote
uneblinstu Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 Honestly, that's exactly what Nebraska needs, a kid that wants to create his own legacy. Those kids are rare, if Miles can unearth one, it'd be a program changer. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 It's not up there with the Atewe thread for length (yet) but it might have set the record for quickest thread to 6 pages (other than a game thread.) bobcat402 1 Quote
lang Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 I just watched a few short clips. Well, you can throw out the Andre A comparison/worries, he moves around really well for his size. And he's a "lefty" too ! Quote
lang Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 Whatever happened to that really big dude Doc brought in for a visit one spring. IIRC, the guy didn't want to show his abilities to Doc while here (lazy or slightly sick) or Doc had even left town when he came to visit ? I just wonder if he ended up somewhere. Quote
a0t0w0 Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 Melvyn oliver. Seton hall. Played next to no minutes there iirc Quote

Melvyn Oliver, like a0t0w0 said. Doc went down to visit him after our NIT loss to Mississipi or whoever. After Doc had travelled all that way, Melvyn declined to work out for Doc because he didn't feel well or something. I suspect Doc wrote the kid off at that point because when Melvyn came up for his official visit, Doc found some reason to be out of town. As far as I'm aware, the kid never amounted to anything as a college hoops player. Quote
Fullbacksympathy Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 Well... there's your program changer. Dude could either shed 30 or chizzle up a bit, and he's an early exit draft pick. If we land him, I think the NCAA win talk is out the window. We could start talking about contending for conference championships. Quote
The Coach Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 I am fantasizing about this lineup in 2 years: Webster Petteway Shields Pitchford Robinson Fuller, Hammond, Hawkins off the bench Quote
FredsSlacks Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 Wonder how Hammond would view things if we signed Robinson. -Sweet! someone to draw double teams, and i can get open shots from the elbow. or -No! this guy is going to take up all the space in the lane. Quote
hskr4life Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 Well it would be nice if everyone would view it as -Yes! Another guy to the piece of the puzzle that could get us deep into the tourney. It is too bad that a lot of kids have the Me me me instead of the us us us. Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 I think Hammond could be a 4/5 depending on the opposition on the floor if we got both guys. It gives you the ability to show different looks out there and more versatility for Miles and co. Quote

While it's fun to kind of imagine Elbert committing to us, the reality is there are a lot of big players trying to land him. I think the odds are probably better that Elbert heads elsewhere and David Wacker becomes a Husker. Quote

I think the odds are probably better that Elbert heads elsewhere and David Wacker becomes a Husker. There are quite a few big players trying to land Elbert. But he is using one of his 5 official visits to come check out this campus. After next week we will see where we stand, if we have a chance, and just how much pull Kenya Hunter has with Elbert. Elbert could come away from next weekend and give us the same glowing report that Wacker just gave us. Then what? Are we then going to say chances are small because there are too many big dogs after him? We need to find that one guy. That one guy who has offers from all the big players but doesn't care because he wants to build his own legacy. From the small bits I've read about Elbert, he is that guy. Or at least the chances of him being that guy are greater than any other big prospect Miles has courted so far. I thought Myles Turner could've been that guy, but we didnt get Turner on campus. Elbert is coming to campus. Miles needs to sell that he can play right away versus waiting 2 years at any of the big player schools. Bottom line, I'm holding out hope until at least next weekend. Thanks for the link, faql. Agree with the "impressed" assessment. Hawkins seems to be very clever with the ball--makes some amazing passes. He frequently seems to be in the right place at the right time for rebounds and defense. Looks like a keeper! Quote

On a related matter, what are the odds that Nebrasketball's simultaneous pursuit of both Robinson and Wacker is aimed at "both/and" rather than "either/or"? I'm putting my money on "both/and." Quote
a0t0w0 Posted September 2, 2013 Report Posted September 2, 2013 Thanks for the link. Hawkins looked like the best player on the court. Pretty cool. Quote

We can tell him for a fact, come in shape, and you'll be on the court 20-30 min a game and you'll get every opportunity to average 15ppg, 10rpg, and 3bpg per game as a freshman Quote
Hooper Posted September 2, 2013 Author Report Posted September 2, 2013 The Rivals update said that Robinson lost 20-30 lbs. since last season, so he's in much better shape now. He's my new #1 target, followed very closely by Jonah Bolden. Either one would be a game changer for Nebraska in my opinion. Quote
