uneblinstu Posted August 19, 2013 Report Posted August 19, 2013 Anybody taking notice of the battle between Creighton fan and Nebraska fan on twitter complete with a sales pitch on why Gilmore should go to Creighton versus why he should come to Nebraska? Pretty pathetic. It's also a recruiting violation.

You cant enforce twitter because of all the "fake" fans of teams that come out of the woodworks.
Badgett Fan Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 Yep, enforcement is effectively impossible. Thus, Bob Stoops is actively encouraging Sooners fans to bombard these kids with tweets. http://oklahoma.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1528162

FredsSlacks Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Anyone have any guesses why we haven't scheduled a visit yet? He visits Creighton aug 23rd.
Norm Peterson Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Maybe he's coming in to see us then too? We're only a short drive down I-80. If he's driving to Omaha, he probably will drive right past Lincoln on his way too and from Omaha. He could check out PBA on his way there and check it out again on his way back. And that would be a second Rivals 150 kid in the same recruiting class if he were to give us his commit.

Isn't there a rule against this since Gilmore is taking an official to Creighton, going there on Creightons dime? Now, when they came up here on their own dime he was able to check out anything he wanted stopping on Lincoln as well as Omaha.

Hes already made trips unofficially to see both this past summer which he did exactly what Norm stated so that must be what he was thinking about.
Norm Peterson Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Well, then, if he can't catch two on the same official, I would MUCH rather have our official with him come later than theirs. Seems like the later team has the advantage.

Based on what we can see, things might be looking better for creighton than us. -He just visited NU and CU a couple months ago, and Creighton is the first place he wanted to go back to. -We have no official set up with him that we know of. -We have Smith coming in 9 days who is the same size and position as gilmore.

I disagree. None of us know whether or not he has plans to visit Nebraska. My guess would be that Tim Miles thinks that Nebraska's chances of landing Gilmore are much better, if Gilmore visits Lincoln to watch a basketball game in a sold out brand new arena when a team like FGCU or Miami comes to town, rather than if he were to come to town to watch a soccer game... Or maybe Miles thinks it would be good to have him visit Lincoln for a sold out Memorial Stadium for the UCLA or Michigan St game. Honestly, I would much rather Nebraska have Gilmore visit for a football or basketball game than visit right now. Especially for a soccer game...

Gilmore was already here once when nothing was going on...and he still came away from the visit with a very high interest in Nebraska. Bring him in for a football game or a basketball game, he can see the now completed arena, and give us his verbal at that time. There's really no point in bringing him back until something big is going on. We already have his interest. Nebrasketballer and hhcmatt 2

Yeah, this is one of the really strange things about college basketball recruiting, especially when compared to football recruiting. With the fall "early" signing period, you potentially are signing guys who have never been able to attend a school's home game, unless they visited as juniors. I'm sure that's why the NCAA changed the rule last year allowing juniors to take official visits during their second semester. Of course, because that rule is brand new, very few were able to take advantage of it last spring. I suspect that about every college coach in the entire country would rather have a kid sign the LOI in the fall, rather than wait and hope to blow his socks off by having him attend a home game. I like the fall signing period. It does away with a lot of the decommitments that you see in FB because rather than just a verbal promise, the kids have actually signed LOIs and have to get releases from them if they want to switch to a different school. This can be a problem because the schools don't like to release kids and when they do, they block the schools that the kid probably wanted to go to in anyway. I think that since most of the most desired kids sign in the fall, you take a real gamble in holding scholarships for the spring.

True but anyone that follows recruiting these days knows many 17 to 18 year olds have no clue what it means to get their commitment to someone.

Or Sai Tummala's. Atewe took further visits and I believe committed to the last one. Not sure but I think Tummala did as well. If he's expecting to take visits, he's not likely going to commit before taking at least a couple of them. I guess I should ask if you're worried he's going to commit to Creighton this weekend.

Per an update Rivals it sounds as if the Husker staff has not been in much contact with Gilmore since his last visit. For whatever reason it appears we have cooled on him and are going after some other prospects.
cwshuskers Posted August 23, 2013 Report Posted August 23, 2013 Cooling on Gilmore may be a good thing if we like our chances with some better prospects.
Norm Peterson Posted August 23, 2013 Report Posted August 23, 2013 Perhaps we concluded his star was rising in other directions, I don't know. Or maybe it was a "we love you, son, but we need players at other positions. However, you might consider our friends up the road at Creighton." Who knows. I'm just guessing.
