Hah. This doofus took about 50 iPhone pics all around the place. I'll try to post a gallery later. Is there anything you want to see right away?

(I was in there today to look at/write about the Candy Box art that was supposed to be going in. Husker AD photog was also on tour, hence the catwalk pics).  http://journalstar.com/special-section/arena/arena-art-is-like-a-box-of-chocolates/article_8e16a2f3-9735-5c7b-a023-dd28e68698e6.html

Hey, Pascale found my seats!  Now if he can give me directions on how to get up there.

This joke is just hilarious! Never gets old!  Even after hearing it 50 times, it is still just GREAT!

Nothing in particular, mostly just want to look at as much of what's going on as I can while not being able to get inside.  Might be nice to see some of the details like wayfinding signs, portals/walkways to the seating bowl, etc.

I sense a little ... sarcasm.

Just giving you a hard time.  Do your seats really suck that bad?  If you had season tickets at Devaney they couldn't have put you worse than 200 level right?

Big thanks to 49r, Nebrasketballer, uneblinstu and anyone else that maintained/contributed to this thread.

This building is going to blow the doors off the Qwest (I don't care about name changes) Center, and will be looked at and copied by any city/sports entity preparing to build a venue of this sort. The interior, the exterior, the neighboring area -- it all looks incredible.

So, looking at the picture in this tweet, I think I finally understand now how they're gonna make the student section on the sideline work.

The interesting part about this is it looks (if this is the configuration they stick with) like they've decided to lose fewer rows than initially planned. On the athletic department's seating chart, they only had something like 5 rows allocated to the students (on that side). Now it appears they'll have around 7 (and seats are moved out a little further/closer to the court). So hopefully that means the students forced them to pull those extra few rows out due to demand.

My bad for responding this late/dredging this up but...

It's just I and a few others have been disappointed to see subsequent diagrams appear to move the fan seating further and further from the court.  The original promises by the athletic dept have not entirely been fulfilled.  It may yet be a very good basketball facility but as I recall, the original promise was that fans would be right on top of the action and there wouldn't be such distance from the fans on the ends.

And now it appears this was done so that they could somehow squeeze a hockey rink into the place.

Sorry Norm, but I have no idea how you (or anyone) can have these complaints. What were you expecting them to build? Cameron Indoor? Gallagher Iba? This will be one of the best city-built, basketball-centric, multi-purpose facilities in the country. This was definitely built for basketball, and could maybe (probably not very well) host a hockey game. Let's compare it to multi-purpose venues that were built for hockey, and also host basketball games (with lesser quality sightlines).

First up is the PBA. The baseline is highlighted in green and I've projected it out into the seats to show how it relates to the "bowl". At PBA, only a few feet exist between the baseline extended and where the bowl starts to curve. The very next section starts to angle towards center court, providing better sightlines and a more compact bowl.

But take a look at the Qwest Center (below). You have to go at least a section and a half past baseline extended before the seats start to turn to face the court. This makes the bowl more oblong, which pushes the upper sections even further away from the court.

Compare that with the Qwest's hockey config, and you get the result below. The green lines represent the location of the baselines in the basketball set-up.

Even a place like the Kohl Center (which has been touted for its environment/home court advantage) is a hockey building that the PBA will have better sightlines than.

And speaking of the Kohl Center and it's home court advantage, this is what it says on the UW website...

Also For the Fans: The cantilever design replicates the overhang effect of the former UW Field House without the obstructions. Sightlines are tremendous from every seat. At center court, you can look up at three ascending, cheering spectator areas, an awesome and intimidating sight for opponents.

That looks like this...

PBA seems to have taken some similar ideas. There's no wasted space for walking paths or other nonsense. It's all tucked away beneath each layer (keeping the seats closer to the floor). And much like the Kohl Center, each level seems to rise right above the one below it, leaving a massive wall of seats, that are "right on top of the action".

Again, compare that to the Qwest, where they've wasted space on a hockey design, as well as rings of walking paths (green line) that push each successive layer out further and further. The levels aren't stacked nearly as tightly there as they are at PBA. And the upper-most level just goes back for days.

To summarize... I think the PBA design is great for basketball. With the building packed, it's going to be a fairly cozy place for a joint that seats nearly 16K. If we can get some crowd noise, look out.
