ajb5856 Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 204, for me.Well that makes 3 of us then....I'm in row 2 of 214 I got to see the arena tonight. I really like my seats, no complaints. Great to finally see the place. Little bit of a bummer that the floor seats are so far away behind the baskets. The last few years I have sat behind the East basket at Devaney towards the top. I'm not sure that wouldn't put me in the lower bowl at The Pinnacle ? It'd be pretty close. Front of the 200 level is about equivalent to the bleacher seats, but much more comfortable and much fewer people in front of you. Row 19 of C section at Devaney, which was the first row of the plastic non-padded seats, was equivalent to row 1 of the 200 level at PBA. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 Row 19 of C section at Devaney, which was the first row of the plastic non-padded seats, was equivalent to row 1 of the 200 level at PBA. Equivalent in what way? In terms of distance from the floor, front row of the 200 level is about the equivalent of the highest row of seats at Devaney. My seats in Devaney were much closer than my "equivalent"1 seats at PBA. 1 Equivalent as defined by the UNL ticket office. Quote
lang Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 Norm, without giving too much detail, where did you end up and did that not go as expected? My memory from the past year is that you had moved to the lower bowl in the arena. Lately you seem to be saying that your seats are in the nose bleeds. Did you apply for the lower bowl ? You can PM me if you want, just curious what happened. If anybody should be in the lower bowl, with nice seats....you'd be right there in my book. You being one of the most passionate dudes on this board, it kinda stinks if you are way up where you don't want to be. Quote

Of course every 'comparable' seat is actually further away than what the Devaney seat was. That just comes with a bigger arena. Had they not gone with the pull out lower seats, the first row would've been even further from the court. In Devaney you had maybe a 4 ft walkway from the first row to the back of the scorers table which was butted up as close to the sideline as possible. In PBA you have 12 feet from the first row to the scorers table and then several more feet to the sideline. I'm guessing that from row 1 at PBA you are 20-25 feet from the sideline and at Devaney you were maybe 10-15 feet at most. When I say comparible seat, yes it's by UNL definition. It's where my seat in Devaney computed out to be in PBA terms after all the people seated below me were placed in their locations. Quote
Slammin1 Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 I am in row 4 of section 219 which is mid court for men's games. It is a long way up but the view is good! For the women's games I am in row 1 of section 101. I am actually a little concerned about being too low there with people walking in front, cheerleaders standing... I am sure I'll get used to the cheerleaders... Quote

Lang, I am further away than I was at Devaney and I don't deserve to be any closer than the amount I'm willing to spend allows me to be. It's a beautiful arena, one that should help us lure recruits we might not have been able to quite close on in the past. If that helps the program while putting me somewhat further away from the action, I've decided not to complain about it but just rejoice in the incredible facilty we now have the pleasure to call home. I will be sitting with some absolutely fabulous fans. I know who they are even though they might not realize I'm the guy who posts as Norm Peterson. So, in that respect, I feel pretty lucky. I'll PM you with the exact details and hope and expect to see you at games this season, Lang. Thankfully, there's so much more to be happy about than to complain about. And, at my age, being further away from the court is a small price to pay for being closer to the toilets. Quote
HuskerBB Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 I understand the comparisons to Devaney but at least to some extent that is apples to oranges because PBA is not a basketball only facility and Devaney was pretty much built just for Husker basketball. I think it is more fair to compare PBA seating to other multi-use arenas (Qwest/Clink) etc than to Devaney or other basketball specific arenas. In that sense I think PBA compares very favorably. Mabye the front rows on the ends are a little farther back than they were at BDSC and they certainly are not right on top of the court like they are if you watch UNC games in the Dean Dome. But they are closer than I expected when we decided to join with the city in building an arena. I went to 3 places in PBA where I have sat on different ocassions to try out the "equivalent" seats that were issued for those seats. A. My primary seat location was 4 rows up in C at BDSC. Those seats are in row 21 of PBA and that is farther from the court than the BDSC seats - and those also got shoved a little farther off mid court - basically from the free throw line to almost the baseline. Those seats got "worse" but I expected that not because of the arena design but because they put students on that side where they were not before so I think everyone on that side got pushed up some. I still like the seats though. B. I have sometimes sat with friends in the B level on the end nearest the NU bench. On that end they eliminated the student seating and those "equivalent" seats are at least a little lower and closer than they were at BDSC. These were still in row 7 so they must have put some more people in front on them than were actually in front of them in the B level but still fewer rows than if you counted the bleacher rows at BDSC. Loved those seats in PBA - in this case I felt the equivalent seats were an improvement from a view perspective. Again I kind of expected this because of the elimination of the student seats below these. C. On occasion I have sat in row 2 of the A level at BDSC opposite the Husker bench. I felt that those "equivalent" seats at PBA were very much the same as the ones in BDSC - and this is a location that I expected to feel noticably farther from the court than we were at BDSC. Here I was pleasantly surprised to find them fairly comparable in distance from the court. Maybe my perspective is influenced by what i "expected" going in - but I was personally happy with how those "equivalent" seats turned out. I also went up to the highest row at PBA. I can't really say that I have been up that high in BDSC recently enough to fairly compare that view with the PBA view. But I have sat in the very top reaches of Qwest/Clink for Husker- CU games and in terms of that comparison I thought the PBA seats were much better. Quote

Like you said hopefully NU hoops is going places. If we'd somehow get a solid commit from a really big guy in the near future....we'd be feeling about as good about things as we have in a looonnng time. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 One more note, guys. I went to the PBA to watch the Wyoming game (lovely defense) and, for those who might not have been aware ... THEY SELL BEER. (boomboompa) IT MAKES ME A JOLLY GOOD FELLOW. THEY SELL BEER. An employee told me today that if the open house went well, they were planning on opening the arena for football games, with beer service. If they would open that Empyrean stand, I might be tempted to leave a blow out early! However, given the defensive effort Saturday, this may take a while. Quote

I spent one game up top last season at the Devaney and while you are as high you are closer to the court. Quote
Ron Mexico Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 I didn't get a chance to go up to the 200 level where my seats are located. I'm in sec 212 row 2, which is behind the basket. Overall I was really impressed with the PBA. I can't wait to take in my first game. Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 Looks like the Wyoming game was a hit because they are going to do it again. Nebraska Football "Watch Party"Sept. 7 @ 5 p.m. See the Huskers take on Southern Mississippi with all your friends. We'll have the game on our giant, high-definition Panasonic video boards. KIck-off is at 5 p.m. We'll open the doors at 2 p.m. I think I might make it down there to watch the game. Last week I was at Fatso's in San Antonio watching. Althought the BBQ was good I think the TV will be a bit better this week. Quote

Only Nebrasketball will remain!! I am sure you are joking...since Lincoln is as starved as a concentration camp survivor when it comes to concerts....the management is using a shotgun approach that is designed to reach everyone at least once (make them appreciate that the arena is here)...then once they satisfy the general tastes of the city, they concentrate more on what students want for music....they will present both fine music and broad appeal shows that have not been willing to come to Pershing for years. (It was a dump when I was in school from the late 60's to the mid 70's) This project (including all the still to come buildings) is a home run that makes most others pale in comparison! Quote
