lang Posted March 13, 2013 Report Posted March 13, 2013 Norm, I'm thinking the other guy you are thinking of was Norris Coleman at KSU ? Quote
AuroranHusker Posted March 17, 2013 Report Posted March 17, 2013 I think there's another rule that addresses the age by which they have to start their career and I think it's 25. So, if a guy goes off and enlists in the Air Force after high school, he can come back and play basketball so long as he gets things going before that age. I can't remember who, but one of our old Big 8 brethren had a player who had done just that -- enlisted in the Air Force, stayed there a few years, and then went to college and played ball. Nebraska has recruited football players who spent time in the military before starting college. Trying to remember the name of the kid, but we had a kid who was a 3rd string running back in the 90s who was 25. Jay Sims? We also had a back-up defensive player a few years ago who was an ex-military guy well into his twenties. Huskers' defensive end Tyrone Fahie. Quote
AuroranHusker Posted March 17, 2013 Report Posted March 17, 2013 Back to the OP, I'd be curious to find out plans that Hollins and a few other Central Eagles have for playing college ball. Quote
hhcmatt Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 Looks like he didn't get those grades/scores https://twitter.com/RobinWashut/status/321328252905988097 Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 and signed with a lackluster cc at that. Plenty of other talented programs in the area you wouldve thought a kid with as much talent as some on here says he has wouldve taken advantage of getting him. Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 Maybe they want to "shock" the CC world. I think that is what some will say about us the next few years. At least I hope. Quote
Swan88 Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 Presumably, the connection between Omaha Central players and Central Community College in Columbus is Deverell Biggs. Here is information from the Columbus Telegram newspaper from July 14, 2012:"When Biggs wasn’t having much luck looking for a college to take summer classes, the only person that reached out to him was CCC men’s basketball coach Marty Levinson. Biggs and Levinson already knew each other through summer leagues and games of pickup ball, so it was a perfect match. 'I knew Marty from when he beat me up on the court,' Biggs said. 'He really guarded me and didn’t really let me catch the ball.'. While in Columbus, Biggs has been working out with Levinson and his Raiders. Levinson has specifically focused on improving Biggs’ shooting. 'He's been helping me with my shooting, my form and the mental part of the game,' Biggs said. 'We just went back to the basics. There isn’t anything wrong with going back to the basics. That really helped me and got me focused.' . . . 'He’s a good coach, a real mellow coach,” Biggs said. “He knows what he’s doing, and he knows what he’s talking about because it’s obviously been working for me these past three weeks.' . . . 'It's quiet. I like it because the teachers care about you. They want to see you succeed. I talk to my teachers every day after class,' Biggs said. 'Its a positive campus, and I’m glad I came here. It’s a new experience.' Since arriving, Biggs also has been active in the community. He helped as an instructor last week at the Central Community College Speed Central Clinic at Lakeview High School along with his former head coach Eric Behrens and former teammate Akoy Agau, both from Omaha Central." twinswingohuskers Posted April 9, 2013 Report Posted April 9, 2013 actually CCC Columbus went to the nationals this year and have been pretty active recruiting to try and upgrade Their program Quote

basketballjones Posted April 9, 2013 Report Posted April 9, 2013 I wanna say CCC also signed Aireon Porter from Omaha North. Quote
TheGov21 Posted April 9, 2013 Report Posted April 9, 2013 Being orginally from Columbus their gym isn't much better than the old picture of Grant Hall. What a great signing by Marty at Central (Or Platte College as I'm use to calling it). When I was in high school there the program was a joke. That coach retired and the coach that followed him tried to go out and recruit Chicago and got a bunch of players who ran into trouble. Now that Marty is in charge he's trying to make Central the top JUCO in the state. The best thing he can do is target players like Hollins and get them to come to Columbus and it looks like he is on his way. But the biggest issue is that Central CC has never had a player sign with a Division I school for a long time. Hopefully that can change here. Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted April 9, 2013 Report Posted April 9, 2013 actually CCC Columbus went to the nationals this year and have been pretty active recruiting to try and upgrade Their program yes they did, but they are a D2 Juco which is a lower level than Iowa Western, Butler, Seward etc. When they played teams from D1 they lost. Like another posted stated they havent sent a player to D1 in a long time, because the level of play at D2 jucos is less than stellar. Quote
imnothipp Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 I wanna say CCC also signed Aireon Porter from Omaha North. I am pretty sure Porter signed with IWCC for football. Quote
basketballjones Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 I wanna say CCC also signed Aireon Porter from Omaha North. I am pretty sure Porter signed with IWCC for football. No, he didn't. I can personally vouch for that. Quote
imnothipp Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 Yep you are right. I thought that is what I read in February (that he was signing with IWCC for football). The day after I posted that, I read he signed with North Platte CC for basketball. Quote
hhcmatt Posted May 27, 2014 Report Posted May 27, 2014 Florida school...UCONN recruit Sam Cassell, Jr was there last year Quote
