I'm guessing Miami can be crossed off the list. Any of these: Marquette, Georgetown, Louisville, UCLA, Arizona, NC State, VCU, Butler, Florida State, New Mexico, San Diego State, Gonzaga, Stanford, UNLV, SLU, Colorado

It's no one on that list.

Can't believe I'm saying this but what about... Colorado, we just scheduled a football series with them so our athletic departments are willing to work out a home and home, and it would create buzz with the old Big 8/Big XII matchup

Do. Not. Want.

I agree with you, it wouldn't be close to my first choice either, but with all the possible opponents already eliminated in this thread, I thought it maybe a realistic option

I would if I could share it. You guys will be pleasantly surprised.

Without sharing the name, can you say whether it's a done deal?

The last I heard the game was agreed upon but contract yet to be signed.

If Nebraska is still looking for an opponent for its first game in the Pinnacle Bank Arena (I’m nicknaming it “The Vault”) next fall, here’s an idea: Creighton, if the Jays are in the Big East.

That opener will already be must-see, but the addition of CU as a Big East opponent would add a major spark to the evening. What a terrific promotion of basketball for the state of Nebraska. I know, I know: NU will want the Pinnacle opener to be about Husker Hoops. I get that. I still like this idea. Yes, NU will be coming to Omaha next year. Play two games next season. Why not?

When I think about the coaches who Miles has good relationships with, one of them is Lon Kruger. I know the NU/Oklahoma athletic departments have a fondness for one another, too.

I really know nothing here. The women can aim higher, I know that. (Not UConn high, understand, but higher. The women should get a very good non-conference game next year.)

My stance on Creighton/Nebraska has been the same for several years, and seems even more possible now: Thanskgiving weekend, after the Husker football game on Friday, play a four-team, round-robin deal that ends with Nebraska-Creighton late Sunday afternoon. Invite a Big 12 team and (now) a Mo Valley team. Everybody plays everybody, it's a cheap trip in the years when you're not in Cancun or whatever, and nobody's RPI takes a huge blow. It's not something you can do for 10 years without running out of teams, but for a couple years, in two top-flight arenas, with Nebraskans' hospitality...it's a good deal.

Good point, Sam, about the women.  Hadn't really thought about their opening game possibilities.

And OU would certainly be a reasonably high-level foe to kick things off with.  I'm thinking we won't get KU.  KSU might be kinda fun.  I'd take either KSU or OU, frankly, and not feel like I was settling.

Unless things have changed, I always thought the consensus reports were that NO Big 12 team wanted to come up here to play.  It seems that who the AD targeted but they were all no-go's.

Only if you play in some away tournament to start the season. I think Thanksgiving is too late. This year, we played 4 real games plus an exhibition before Thanksgiving weekend.

I'm thinking it needs to be probably Friday 11/15 or Saturday 11/16. That's the weekend of the Michigan State football game, which is here.

The weekend before that is an away game at Michigan and I don't think that works very well unless you play on Sunday 11/10, because you NEED the dignitaries there, like the AD and TO.

I think ideally you do it for Michigan State game weekend where you'll have lots of fans in town already anyway and you can maybe sell the place out. Have an afternoon game for football and an evening game for basketball.

MAYBE we could do what was occasionally done in the Big 12 and take a league opponent out of the normal conference timeframe and play them early and have Michigan State bring their basketball team along too that weekend. That would definitely be a worthy opponent to open the PBA.

Do we know if we play Michigan State at home or away next year? We played them twice this year, of course.
