The good is that Allison looks better.  Alexis played very well.  We will need her to do that each, and every game.

Not sure how/why Creighton got all those three's off.  Lordy, we have to work on that moving forward.

We missed Natalie. Maybe more on defense.  But we need another scorer to step forward.

I'm not going to call this a bad loss.  We got beat by a Big East team in their house.  We move on.  Main goal is to move past the hole that resulted from the Potts injury.  Hey ladies, you gotta do it.

What's up with Petra only playing 2 and a half minutes???  She has the length to block shots and get rebounds against a shorter Creighton.  Creighton has a lotof five year players who know how to shoot quick threes.  NE players need to be more ready for catch and shot quick threes.  Prince was great and Markowski when she wasn't missing short non-banked shots.  Unfortunately without Potts we slide back into mediocrity!

We needed a third player to step up to help Markowski and Prince.  Rimdal didn’t get many minutes.

yes, and i figured it would be Nissley, but she seemed to disappear.  We also needed interior defense.  Yes, the threes hurt us, but all those uncontested under the basket scores kept CU in the game in the first half.  Without 22 these Huskers will be, in the conference season, a a very average team. 50% might be a challenge. Potts may well end up with a fifth year, but with not having her and LM on the same team we lose the opportunity to be really really good and maybe a top 3 finish.

Glad to see the faster and quicker version of AW and BP is getting better all the time.  On a couple plays, CU didn't defend her any better than did her high school opponents.

Several of us said we hoped that we would get a mobile big from the portal.  And tho Bozan was a nice surprise, we didn't.  We now lack such a player and thus, like so many past teams, we are one card short of a winning hand.

The comparisons between the men’s and women’s games are eerily instructive.
SAME:

* played on same day on the (short) road in the same city

* played good Creighton teams that likes to shoot 3s

* both Husker teams are vulnerable defensively due to lack of overall quickness

* both Husker teams score 74 points but shoot poorly from 3

DIFFERENT:

* no Potts for Husker women - advantage CU

* besides 3s, men had to defend one of the best big men in the country, while the CU women had no real inside threat - advantage NU

* men win by 11 due to a suffocating team defense that overcame individual lack of quickness with tremendous effort and intensity, holding CU to 29% from 3, 33% overall and Kalbrenner to 4 pts

* women lose by 6, allowing CU to shoot 45% and 47%

Draw your own conclusions.

Yup it is no secret what both Creighton MBB and WBB are going to do, Shoot 3s. Giving up 6 threes in the fourth was the final blow. They was 13 of 29 so we did pretty well for 3 quarters. We just did not finish. Hopefully lesson learned.

Who was guarding Mogenson in the fourth when she hit 4 3's?

You missed one variant.  Yes, the team may lack quickness; but the men have length that goes nicely with the grit/intensity.   Plus, at least last night, the men closed out on the Creighton shooters like crazy.

Agree, and your last sentence was basically my point.  Women didn’t.

Watched a couple of YouTube replays of the game. After seeing the game as opposed to hearing it, the obvious thing that did us in was poor perimeter defense.

It has done us in for several years, and we don't seem to react with defensive schemes that slows them down.  Ugh !

Volleyball

This ain't a volleyball forum, but if your a NU sports fan this YouTube video is very insightful. I'm a Husker fan, no matter the sport. Watch if you want.

Do we keep Jessica Petrie in the starting lineup?  I have little knowledge of the team formerly known as UMKC so maybe there is a more advantageous starter for the Roos.

Really hard to tell.  So much has to go into that decision.  I imagine the practices include experiments with various line ups.

AW has gotten her butt kicked 8 of 9 times to a lower level in state program.  How long do I have to suffer this before she takes a bit of pride in beating Creighton.  If she works really hard she can get to .200 winning percentage next year
