Her level of play has increased this year, especially considering her previous years here...we need another 6-3+ post....she knows the schemes...not a rookie...seems to be a great teammate....

..so yes ...the team can use her if she wants to give it one more try.

Other than an occasional 3 pointer I'd rather she move on. She doesn't have any inside game other than a fall away jump shot.  Her defense has never been good. I'd rather use her scholarship and try and get a better post player.  Her playing time is not going to increase with Petrie getting most of the sub minutes.

Her playing time was  minimal this season.  It might have been her injury and her very slow recovery.  This year we had 13 players on scholarship (counting Mendelson).  If we lose four (MM, JS, MK, and DW) and gain the three recruits, that brings the total to 12.  15 are available.  So even if AS stays, there is room fo transfers. So there def is room for her on the roster. Yes, it would be nice to her for spot duty or in case AW or JP gets injured.  I would think this decision is up to her and she can decide if playing behind the other two bigs is worth taking another year out of her life.  The other factor is that she might have an academic plan that would be helped by being on scholarship for another year.  Ultimately I would think it's totally up to her. From what i heard her say at senior day, I would guess that she is ready to get on with her life.

Tom I agree with all of your thoughts.  I believe that each player in most sports at this point are considering whether they want to get on with their life in their chosen field versus continuing in sports.  We are all uniquely different.  What ever she decides I am happy she came here and will continue to support her going forward.  And yes we do have several scholarships that could be used in the portal that hopefully would improve our team especially if they had several years to play.

I think both Stewart and Krull need to get down the road.   Stewart has been a minimal player this past year with injury issues or not?. Her scoring has continued to drop the last 4 years, but she is always good for a few fouls when she is in.  It would be better to get a couple more skilled bigs with playing time for more than a year to get developed.  I watched part of UCLA and Colorado last night with UCLA currently having at least 6 players of 6'3 or more.  We need more height and muscle as the BIG 18 goes forward.  With having 3 guards coming plus Allison back and the guards we have, we  really do not need Krull and would likely be a frustrating season for her with likely diminished time playing per game as happened this year versus last year.   Now Williams et al need to get cracking on finding some bigs domestic or foreign (as some teams have done) or the portal.

I totally agree with Redhac.  If NU is ever going to be among the top  dogs in this league (and get ranked in the top 25), Williams needs to go out and get a quality big that has post moves around the basket and has some height. We don't have to have posts that shoot 3's (of  course if they can it's a bonus.) We do have plenty of guards for the next few years.

6'3" players that, when healthy, can step outside and knock down 3's, provide some inside presence, be a team player/supporter of teammates, grow on trees.  We should find bunches of them.  All bona-fide players will be willing to play behind Alexis, Potts, Petrie or our current incoming big for a year, so yeah, she needs to go 😇

Seriously, if we have another big (either high school or transfer in the pipeline, she will move on.  But if not, we should be begging for her to stay.  Remember, we have scholarship room.

I'm a little confused, aren't we in the top 4 in our league?  We beat a team that was #2 in the entire country, at that time.  Our team is also at or near the top 30 in the country.

I get the quest for perfection.  As one once said, don't let good get in the way of being great.  But we are not as far off as some may want to believe.

So I truly understand where you are coming from; but every team needs five or six players who play small roles in order to fix cracks that may exist.  Glue players can be as important as the stars...they just have different parts to play.

I totally agree.  I think she will graduate this spring and may want to finish a masters program here.  She knows our staff, team and opportunities for playing time.  She seems to be recovered from her early season injury and it will be interesting to see her playing time and contributions in our remaining games. Maddie K. may move on as she graduated last August and we will be gaining 4 guards while losing 2.  We presently will have from 2 to 4 open scholarships next year depending on who goes or stays.

We are having a good year.  I agree, role players like Stewart are absolutely the glue of a team. But, Redhac and Longtimefan have a point too.  I don't think they were arguing against role players. They were looking at the roster, going forward. We lose Markowski in a year. Do we have someone on the roster than can provide the scoring and defense in the post that she provides (especially defense on the other team's post player)?  With the addition of the west coast teams, it will get tougher. I also expect Rutgers and Maryland, and others will raise their games.

I am enjoying this year.  I expect most of their objectives for the year, are still alive. 'Hats off' to all involved.

But, IMO, everyone will need to up their games if we are going to enjoy similar success going forward.  Prince will help a ton. Bringing in an 'All Conference' level replacement for Markowski, would also help. We aren't 'far off', at least not today.

I know we are guard heavy but if a portal guard who is a good 3 point shooter becomes available and reaches out to us we should consider her. While I like what we have from Nissley, and Hake, they can get in a slump (thinking Hake for several games this year) so always think we should look at them if they reach out to us. Even is Anni was to come back we still need to consider a 4-5 as injuries happen.

Roster set up....

Sorry, but still think our biggest need for the future, given our current and near future roster......are "big"s.  Without getting into a discussion about individuals)..... we have guards, and more coming in.....and frankly there's lot more guards out there (no matter where or in what form you find them).....than there are good bigs that are "bangers".

Maybe we have one or two in the wings, but not apparent now. We have a couple on the roster that hopefully can be coached to get a lot more physical.

If you can't put a team on the floor with a good big...then you have to alter your scheme to make your team all about the guards. And honestly don't think you can be consistent (that word again)... winners in the BIG and nationally..... without a tough physical post player.  The men's game is the same way.

Anyway, enough of that......

This is a long week until the ILL. game. It's will a tough and very important game. To bad it's in their house.

I wish there wasn't such a long break in between games too. Hard to stay hungry and focused while just practicing all week. I guess the silver lining is that the "banged up" players have time to heal, and the lawsuit chatter and distractions have died down a bit, so that could play in our favor. I also think the recruiting focus should  be on 4s and 5s. It seems like we have 1-3 pretty well covered for a while.

The odds are that we will get several players from the portal.  Gut feeling.

I'm not much of a portal guy. That being said I would like a big.  A clear out, rebounding.....box out machine.  Not worried about scoring, so much as clearing out for  AM and company and turn some offensive glass into opportunities for our 3pt. crew
