Hoopla hands out the top 40 players in Big Ten. Jaz, Issie, and Lex make the cut...

https://hooplanewsletter.substack.com/p/hoopla-40-end-of-season-22-23?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email

Markowski was 19th, based largely and probably, because of her being the rebounding leader in the B1G.  She's a force on the boards. The rest of the league sure tries to double team her a lot.

Really wish she/we had an experienced "big" coach that can teach her more of the ins and outs of playing the post.  The potential is there to go further.

I remember when Czinano was a freshman she looked lost...now with 4 years of real coaching she turned into a very serviceable center.

After that little "skirmish" with Williams, when she benched Alexis for the start of the game...things haven't been quite the same with Markowski. Hope whatever it was...will work itself out over the summer.

love Issie, however, what may have hurt her is she had a tendency to miss "bunnies"? actually, been a team issue.

I'm going to respectfully disagree here.  Take away the 3 pt. and Issie shot 67%.  At the 3 pt. line she shot 28%.  Knowing overall she shot under 50%, I am saying she probably spent to much time behind the arc.  Our coaching had Griffin and tried to turn her into Hooper.

I will humbly state that her dad Andy is very good coach of post play and moves.  He spent time as a college coach and knows his way around the paint.  Just saying...

ummm, Griffin couldn't be turned into Hooper because Griffin came BEFORE Hooper.

Agree completely...I watched him play many times back in the 90's when we had season tickets for a number of the Nee years.....Tyronn Lou, Venson Hamilton, Cookie Belcher....some great years in NU basketball.

Trivia: Did you know Danny Nee played high school basket ball in NY (Manhattan I think it was), and his teammate was ....Lou Alcindor...might know who he is.

Not bore everyone.....but maybe the coolest thing I ever saw back in the Nee 90's was by Eric Piatkowski. (he played in the NBA for 10-15 years as I recall)

Piatkowski was maybe the best pure shooter I ever saw at the time. He could bomb 3's from anywhere.

One night, and I don't recall who the other team was, but he banked in a long three (right in front of the other teams bench)   Their bench just started laughing at Piatkowski......thought it was so funny.

So the next time down the floor.....Piatkowski got to the exact same spot on the floor (by their bench)....and banked in another three.... in the same spot.  He just turned and looked at their bench, and trotted back down the floor.    ...Their silence was hilarious.

The coolest in your face deals.... and he never said a word.

Never forget it.

Illinois hires Stanford assistant, Britney Anderson

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini women's basketball head coach Shauna Green has announced the hiring of Britney Anderson as an assistant coach. Anderson joins the Illinois program after three seasons on Stanford's staff, where she worked primarily with the guards. She's been in the collegiate coaching ranks since 2013 with stops at Radford, Virginia Tech and most recently Stanford.

"I am so excited to have Britney join our Illini family," opened Green. "She brings elite experience to us as a recruiter, coach and relationship builder. She has coached some of the best players in the country and has won a national championship – that experience is invaluable. As we continue to build Illinois into a consistent top program in the country, there is no doubt that Britney will help us get there."

"I am extremely grateful to be able to work with Coach Green and become a part of the Illini family," shared Anderson. "Illinois is a special place with special people, and I look forward to continuing to build on last season's success."

Stanford went 92-12 (.885) in Anderson's three seasons on The Farm, boasting the second-most wins and third-best winning percentage of any school in the nation during that span. The Cardinal won three straight Pac-12 regular season titles along with the 2021 and 2022 tournament championships and went 50-5 vs. Pac-12 foes in the regular season with Anderson on the staff. Under her guidance, Haley Jones (2022) and Kiana Williams (2021) earned All-America accolades, while Anna Wilson was named the 2021 Pac-12 Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Jones and Lexie Hull were both picked No. 6 in the WNBA Draft in 2023 and 2022, respectively.

A 2007 graduate of Virginia Tech, Anderson has spent time coaching in both the high school and AAU ranks, as well as collegiately at Radford and her alma mater in Blacksburg, Va.

She joined the college ranks in 2013, serving as an assistant at Radford and aiding in the resurgence of its program, including a trip to the WNIT in 2015. Upon returning to her alma mater, Anderson helped Virginia Tech to four straight postseason appearances, highlighted by a run to the WNIT Championship game in 2018.

Playing for the Hokies from 2003-07, Anderson led Virginia Tech to four straight postseason appearances, including three trips to the NCAA Tournament and one to the WNIT. She shot 44.6 percent from the floor for her career and averaged 10.2 points per game as a senior.

Upon graduating with a bachelor's degree in apparel design and merchandise management, Anderson served as the corporate recruiter for M.C. Dean, Inc. in Dulles, Va., from 2008-13. During that time frame, Anderson also coached girls' basketball at Potomac Falls High School in Potomac Falls, Va., and in the AAU ranks.

Michigan has Olivia Olson coming in and have put out an offer for this player....😟

Gabby Reynolds, Holland West Ottawa, Jr.

The junior guard put together another sensational season, averaging 25.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 3.4 steals per game for a 16-7 West Ottawa team. She eclipsed the 1,000-point milestone and currently sits at 1,111 career points heading into what should be another big season. Reynolds holds nine Division-I scholarship, including one from the University of Michigan.

Good info, whoopdeedoo. Thanks for sharing!
And what a treat to come to this board and see a thread title in boldface print indicating actual NEW ACTIVITY! 🙌

Ugh, the offseason doldrums, am I right?

Maybe the program will give news, photos/videos and updates during the trip to Greece this summer and that’ll give us stuff to talk about.

Until then, hope you all have a great summer.

Yes I too hate this dry period of news.  Same old story.  Why haven't we updated our roster as reflected on huskers.com.  Still have the two no shows listed.  We know who is coming back and who isn't including new players and coaches. Someone may say its too early.  Well Iowa WBB has their new roster for 23-24 shown on their women website.  I would like to be ahead of them once in something. Also noted Iowa was second in attendance in the country last season averaging over 11,000.

Dang, over 11,000 AVERAGE?

Give the devil their due - that’s impressive. Their attendance numbers may drop off a bit after next season when Clark has graduated (God willing she leaves Iowa and moves on. Lol) But still, I would expect their tremendous fan support to continue. Bluder’s program has reached the level where their success just breeds more success.
Darn it. ☹️

came across this on youtube (a discussion on Gopher wbb): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XRQZshwde8

in short: Gophers add athleticism, length, and quickness with a few of the new additions. height with 6'5" Sophie Hart (transfer). these two concur that with the new coach, should see the program move forward. with the hotbed the state of minnesota is regarding prep recruits, if DP can show progress in her first year, the doors should at least be open to keep some of the best talent at home. they both agree you can build a Big Ten contender with the in-state talent. of course, it all comes down to putting up more "w's".

they believe with the talent minny has and combine that with incoming players, this squad can battle for that 5-6 spot.

i'm gonna say Dawn Plitzuweit has the barn rockin' next season and it's going to be tough to win there. won't surprise me if they pull a big upset or two at the barn. i'll say it is almost certain gophs won't be playing on that first day in the big ten tournament.
