That is my point as well.  There are some poor hitting shortstops and catchers in the game that don't play much because they are poor hitters.  Like I said before, go all the way and play your 9 best fielders and bat your 9 best hitters if you believe in the philosophy behind the DH.  Gift Ngoepe (INF) and Gorkys Hernandez (CF) were 2 guys that were fun to watch in the field but rarely played as they could not hit their weight.

In the modern game, there is one position on the field that is vastly more important than any of the other eight. I'll let you guess which one. You wanna let MadBum or Greinke hit, that's great. But I'm not going to promote a .150 or worse hitting shortstop to the majors, no matter how good he his in the field. I will with a pitcher who can't hit a lick because he's worth it. But he's not worth watching hit. It's the most boring part of NL ball. Ooh, strategy: should he bunt or strike out? Such a tough call.

I see it the other way.  I like the idea of putting the manager on the spot to pull a pitcher in a close game for a pinch hitter or not which can also drain your bench for later in the game.  I find the sit and wait for a 3 run home run American League baseball boring.  To each there own I guess.  I just find it strange you would not want to watch an Ozzie Smith type glove man in the field as much as possible like you would want to see a DH come to bat 4 times a game. (Yes, I know Ozzie could hit, just could not think of another example because that person probably never got the chance because he could not hit)

The strategy of pulling a pitcher in the NL for a pinch hitter is a part of the game that fascinates me (speaking as a Royals/AL guy), I'm glad they still do it.  I like that there's that one quirky difference between the two leagues.

I think field-goal kickers ought to have play center. And quarterbacks should be linebackers on D.

The age of the specialist has been here for decades. And the National League is the only baseball league anywhere at any level that makes pitchers (try to) hit. Or should I write "bunt." Nothing more boring than watching a pitcher fan or look at three pitches and then head back to the dugout to rest.

Watching bowling or cornhole on TV come to mind without much thought.

Mark Belanger could barely his weight but was a good enough glove he played every day.  Hell Ozzie Smith was all glove and no hit for the first part of his career.

I thought of him as well, and of course, Mario Mendoza, the man that gave us the Mendoza line.

Or, if the pitcher does somehow manage to get on  base, watching him try to run the bases with a stupid jacket on.

DH for both leagues.  Please.

And I like that the NL and the AL do it differently. Why have it only 1 way or the other.... good to have contrasting styles.

I would agree with this IF......it was like the old days where the AL and NL did not play each other until the World Series.  Now, with interleague play, it's a HUGE detriment to the AL team playing the NL ballpark.  As bad as the pitchers are in the NL at hitting, imagine how much worse the AL pitchers are.  At least the NL pitchers "may" have taken some hacks in spring training and batted throughout the season.  An AL teams comes into an NL park and the AL pitcher has to bat and it's probably the 1st time he's picked up a bat since college or high school.  I don't want to watch that.

Plus, if you build a club that plays 152 of 162 games WITH a DH, you have to change your whole lineup (likely weakening it both offensively AND defensively) in order to play a game that only one league in the entire world uses, at any level.

But I'm biased as a fan of the Royals. I'm neither lovable enough to be a Cubs fan nor smart enough to be a Cardinals fan (#BFIB!).

@colhusker Mark Belanger had a career BA of .228. In 2018, MLB pitchers hit .115. If Mark Belanger (BTW, we're old if we remember him) hit .115, he would not have lasted long.

On edit: Mendoza's career BA was .215.

.228 isn't much to write home about.

It can be a disadvantage to an NL team when you use the DH because they do not have that one dimensional player that just hits so they are forced to play their 9th best hitter to stack up against an AL DH which is one of their best hitters.

Not a fan of MLB or baseball in general really. However, I always found the DH rule to be fascinating. I also am a fan of how they use the all-star game to dictate home field advantage in the World Series. The all star game outcome in MLB has the biggest impact since you are essentially playing for home field and house rules.

I also like how they are considering temporarily grouping teams bc region, regardless of the league.

But I will be mainly following in hopes the NBA is able to gather info on how to properly restart and finish the season (playoffs).

They stopped doing the winner of the All-Star game giving that league home field advantage in the World Series several years ago....

It was put in place a few years ago to make the game more competitive.  It really didn't work and it continued to be a game to get everyone an at bat and the stars were in and out of the shower by the 6th inning.  Doubt Pete Rose likes the All Star game very much today.

I heard an interview today with the Twins beat writer & he’s nearly 100% sure games will be starting 4th of July...

Handy, I hope you're right, but I don't see it happening.  The players do NOT like this new proposal by the owners and I don't think they're going to pass it.  I don't think we'll see any sports until 2021, unfortunately.

NASCAR starts up this Sunday. MLS is in talks to start up mid-June. NFL is still pushing forward on their schedule. And NBA is starting the conversations to resume.

The writers name is Chip Scoggins & he supposedly has some “insider info” AND as he also pointed out, multi millionaire players/owners quibbling over the slice of the pie while half the Country’s out of work, is more than just a “Bad Look”
