  2. Let's just hope they have better taxi service in Omaha. I have the best taxi service ever for us next year. Under-age Red Zoners! Well...one unlucky under-age Red Zoner.

  4. Well crap, that just makes our task that much more difficult. I thought we would have a slight edge when we played them in the championship game next season. Now, we will be pretty even. I think we can still get it done though.

  5. Omaha is hosting the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament at the Century Link Center next season. How absolutely poetic would it be for Nebraska to get their 1st ever NCAA Tourney win in Creighton's home arena? And how much would it kill Creighton fans if Nebraska was able to make the Sweet16, while playing in Creighton's home arena? (especially considering Creighton will likely be watching the tournament on TV at home). That has the potential to be the ultimate gut-punch from Nebrasketball to Creighton, because you know that the local Omaha and Lincoln media will take full advantage of all of those potential storylines... Just throwing that out there. Not sure if it has been discussed on this board yet.

  6. Peru State thought he was a great overall coach, but really loved his experience with recruiting...

  7. On HOL a poster stated that with the new academic guidelines he wouldn't have many players be eligible to play next year assuming they didn't improve their grades. guess he figured make the jump now or never since his stock wasn't going to get any higher.

  10. Your math is wrong. 694 minutes / 84 fouls is one foul per every 8.26 minutes. Given that you are allotted 5 fouls per game, he wouldn't, on average, reach 5 fouls until he participated in 41.3 minutes of playing time. Hey no one told me there would be Math here!

  11. Always good to see the pub. In terms of the draft I dont see him in the top 10 for returning players but in terms of his value to his college team I definitely do.

49r, I think that only explains part of it. If Brandon had been capable of putting up 11.5 points as a junior when we sucked and had trouble scoring, I don't think we'd have sucked as badly or had as much trouble scoring. Remember, that was the season where Diaz was out for extended stretches with his foot problems. And still Brandon only scored 6.7 ppg. I think a bigger part of the difference was in the way Miles utilized Brandon. He got him to dribble-drive and take defenders off the dribble to attack the rim. That made a huge difference. Miles talked during one of his radio shows last year about how he tried to get Walt to do what he had Brandon do, but that Brandon took to it more quickly. I think there was a night and day difference between Brandon Ubel as a junior and Brandon Ubel as a senior. Totally different player. And I think Miles deserves the credit for that.

  13. Very valid concerns Games last year for Ayegba vs Kansas - Fouled out in 10 minutes vs Marquette - Fouled out in 12 minutes vs Bulter - Fouled out in 15 minutes vs DePaul - Fouled out in 17 minutes vs Xavier - Fouled out in 18 minutes vs DePaul - Fouled out in 22 minutes I think Swan88 is correct in figuring that Coach Mo should help to mitigate the problem which was an issue for our entire team last year. While we were one of the worst in the country at giving up FTs last year, we were middle of the road during conference play which was probably a combination of us being a bit more disciplined and the B1G being a physical league. Ayegba should fit in during conference play and hopefully will have adjusted before then. Pitchford fouled out of 2 of his first 4 games here. In his next 28 games he didn't foul out and only had 4 fouls in two games so it's something I think the staff in general can focus on and fix. The FT shooting is a bit more problematic as I doubt he's going to get that fixed during the offseason. While it's been on low volumes, he's shot 42% and 45% over the last two years (yikes!). In a rotation with Smith and/or Hammond you'll see him start simply to reduce the number of FT attempts he might take vs when we are in the bonus. All of our players have strengths and weakness...it's up to the coaching staff to figure out how to minimize the weaknesses during game play.

  14. Here is a comment I made elsewhere on this subject. Foul trouble propensity is, obviously, an issue for Ayegba. However, Jim Molinari might be able to help a little here--after all, the Leathenecks led the nation last year in fewest fouls committed while ranking second in scoring defense. Progress for Ayegba on his foul propensity issue will, in and of itself, increase the value of his contributions dramatically.

  15. BTW, as a junior, he averaged 1 foul about every 5 minutes, which means he'd play about 25 minutes on average before fouling out. I doubt we ask him for 25 minutes/game. Second, his fouls are probably coming at or near the rim rather than 25 feet from the basket. His fouls probably prevent easy baskets and force opponents to earn them from the stripe. Perhaps not bad fouls. Finally, as stated elsewhere, it's better than leaving the spot open another year.

Why wouldn't there be high expectations? Of course my definition of a high expectation may differ from yours. I expect him to provide solid minutes, be a great team player, playing within the role that is defined for him. I expect him to guard the post, and protect the paint. I expect him to set terrific picks. I expect him to rebound, and even if he does not get the board, I expect him to box out the world. I expect him to score when the opportunity exists. I expect him to improve his free throw percentage exponentially over his past few years and I expect him to score five to eight points a game. I expect him to make his teammates better. And finally I expect him to be a good citizen. I do not think that those expectations are exceptionally high. I believe they will be acheived quite frankly.

  17. They probably had to shave his legs when they were doing surgery, so Miles has no idea what he's going to do with Deng. That's why it is taking so long.
