Shavon Shields is using up three point attempts that should be going to Andrew White. In fact, I feel like we should be running that play for White that we were running for Benny tonight where he's wide open in the corner for three. Don't know why Miles doesn't run that play for White instead.

If I was in charge of the game plan, I'd only have White shoot the three treys that he made and not the four that he missed. Actually I'd have him shoot the three that Shields missed also, except just make them. And we can't have Benny shooting the three he missed; only the two he made.

Doesn't make any sense to have any players taking shots they end up missing..

Shields is not a good 3 shooter on a good night but especially when he is off, exhausted and we can't afford wasted possessions.

By the way, don't look now, but Benny Parker is 35% for threes on the season and 38.7% in conference games.

Problem is, he's only averaging 3 attempts per game in conference play.  I think he gets left open for a whole lot more attempts than just 3 per game.  With that kind of conversion rate, I think he should be shooting the rock more.

It might open things up more for Andrew White to get better looks.

Benny played better than usual, but: 90% of major conference guards would have gone off for 30 if they were defended a whole game the way Benny was last night.

Playing with a stretch 4 only makes sense when it gives you a mismatch on the offensive end. When that mismatch is nullified by the opponent PF covering a guard that is no real threat offensively, it doesn't make much sense unless you are playing lights out on defense with that lineup.

Maybe, someday, Nebraska can be at the level where they play about as bad as they can and still find a way to win like the Terps did last night.

Do you believe Maryland played bad last night? They shot well from the floor and hit a big shot every time they needed to. Yes, the Terps turned the ball over but how much of that was Nebraska's defense forcing those turnovers. I know Nebraska played pretty bad offensively, made a ton of errors and still had chances but defensively we played pretty well. But Maryland play bad? I get what you're saying. Eventually we'd like to be able to win without playing our best, but that will rarely happen against a very good team and yet, to me, that's what almost happened last night.

I first have to say ... I'm encouraged by our fight and grit. Despite shooting so poorly we were in it. Other thoughts:

- Really like how Jacobson is coming along while playing out of position (could say this about quite a few people really)
- Shields is a nice #2 or #3 best player, but not a great best player.
- White's overall FG% this year is kind of amazing to me given the level of difficulty of most of his shots. He's rarely "open" and generally has a hand right in his face or is unable to properly square up.

- The way we handled the fast break was disappointing.
- Really tired of how hard our crowd rides the refs. Some calls weren't the best, but I'm not sure we do ourselves any favors when we consistently boo the refs off the court at half.

- A bit disappointed in the size of the crowd. Yes, it'd mid-week after a snow storm but #4 is in town. That being said, the people who were there were really involved.

- We just couldn't capitalize on all those Terp turnovers.
- The length at all positions for Maryland caused us problems.

- There's just something missing about Maryland that makes me hesitate on thinking they are one of the top contenders for a title this year. Maybe could use a little more athleticism?

- Trimble knows how to finish and is clutch.

- If we can make the postseason this year, it will be something nice to build on going into next year.

Call me crazy, but I feel that we have a spot in the conference tourney locked up.  Does that count as post season!?!?  :)

In all seriousness though, at 4-6 after the first 10 games we have had... that was probably about to be as expected or a little better than expected.  How we got the 4 wins is probably not expected.  These next 8 games will tell us a lot about this team I think.  We should be in all 8 games, and I feel have a realistic shot to win 6-7 of those games.  How does the team respond?  Still a lot for this group to play for.

+1 to all, good thoughts.

As I watched that game last night it was apparent what maryland thought about Benny's shooting ability when they had a power forward guarding him a good share of the night. That should never work for any defense. I also agree with Norm on our spacing on the fast break, not good. On the good side our defense turned them over as much as anybody has. Please coach Miles find us a center!!!!!

Mark Turgeon stopped Benny Parker while the teams were passing to shake hands after the game.  And he stopped to talk to him for several moments.  You could see it was Turgeon doing the talking.  I'm curious what he had to say to Benny.

That he was happy that he could look amguy in the face during a basketball game?

Probably that he likes his game and remembers what it is to be the shortest guy in the league and still be a good enough player to help your team. Remember Mark was the "little man" at KU that did big things.

Heard he told Roy when asked why he should be allowed to play at Kansas, his answer was " Becuase I cry everytime Kansas looses"
