Lack of depth no problem against Oklahoma. Should be interesting NCAA tourney this year with at least 20 teams having a legitimate shot to win.

Kinda surprised it had been 58 years since Iowa State had defeated a no. 1 team, and that team in '57 was KU with Wilt Chamberlain.

I believe KU was number one when Danny Manning and his peeps came into the BOB...but I may just be misremembering it

Won at Missouri in '82 when it was #1.  Was Michigan #1 in '63?  I don't know if KU was #1 when we played them in '88, but that's where they ended up, and we were the last team to beat them.  Was at that game, of course, and it was quite fine.  Not sure Manning ever dribbled a ball off his foot again.

I'm pretty sure that '88 KU team was unranked when we played them.

Nebraska won at #1 Mizzou in '82 to the tune of 67-51. Way back in '58, NU beat top-ranked KU with Wilt the Stilt 43-41 after losing at KU a few weeks earlier 102-46! Those are only two times that I know of that Nebrasketball defeated a no. 1 team.

 

Twice in '92 NU beat a highly regarded team in the rankings (but not #1 overall): an undefeated #2 team (Okie St, 85-69) and a #3 team (KU, 81-79 in OT).

Yes, and back then you were old enough to drink at age 18, so me and Biff and Corky and a couple of our other greaser buddies snuck a six-pack of Schlitz into the old Coliseum and sat up near the rafters in the haze from all the old duffers smoking their Marlboros, and watched Wilt the Stilt lose.  It started a long tradition of me being in the nosebleeds and I grew accustomed to looking down through the haze to try to see the floor.  Except now it's clouds instead of cigarette smoke.

KU was unbanked at that point in 88. They never really looked all that good that season until their return trip to Lincoln for the first weekend of the tournament.
