Big red says above, "Evelyn shows flashes." Agreed: whenever Evelyn drives the baseline, he makes a clever play with the ball, and something special happens.

Yep.  This kid is a very talented passer, and has good enough handles to be a true point guard to go along with great PG length.  I'm really intrigued by his future.  I think he and GW are going to be excellent compliments to one another moving forward.  I like the way this staff is grooming him as a true freshman.

Watson/Evelyn

Gill/Webster

White/Roby

McVeigh/Morrow/Horne

Jacobson/Hammond

That's a pretty mean looking squad next season.

He better dramatically improve his outside shot if he's ever going to be a factor.

Not much of a sample size.  I'd look at his hs film for evidence of catching fire outside.  I see this kid getting a lot of minutes down the road.

We can revisit this down the road.  I stick to what I've seen, and it's not a small sample size.

Imma go with a golf analogy:  How much of a sample size do you need to watch in order to see that Jim Furyk has a crazy ugly golf swing?  Do you need to watch it more than once?  Here, here, watch this one:

OK, and now watch this one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQ0ZeJbboGo

Do you want to see any more videos of Furyk's golf swing, or can we stipulate that, in spite of the small sample size, it's an ugly swing?

Now, the thing Furyk has going for him is that he is able to reproduce the motion consistently to get the face on the ball at the moment of impact and hit the ball exceptionally well.  But most golfers who would try to copy Furyk's form instead of, say, Jordan Speith's form, are going to hit a lot of duck hooks or wild slices, because the timing of getting that club face square to closing for Furyk is amazing under the circumstances.

Bakari similarly has some issues with his "swing."  He shoots it almost like a free throw without much elevation on the shot and with a lot of wrist.  It's an ugly shot.  It really is.  I don't need to see more of it to know that it's an ugly shot.  And small sample size or not, his results so far have not been good at all.  He's 1 of 10.  At 10%, from deep, HB's point that Bakari must dramatically improve his outside shot is a point very well taken.

This is not to say that he can't, but it is to say that he must.

Really happy with how the team has responded the last two games despite the competition.

Jacobsen is really coming along and happy with how strong he has been for us cleaning up the boards.  Watson is what a lot of us were hoping he would be and is just scratching the surface of his potential.  As for Morrow I am still hoping he gets a better feel here soon.  He still looks timid at both ends and know, at least hope, its just going to take a little bit longer.  Once he starts getting himself open on offense and can start creating his own shots it will really help this team.  I am happy he is getting points from other peoples penetration but he wont take it to the next level until he can do it himself.

Echoing points already made:
I do like the improvement from the freshman. I think Ed's been playing a lot harder since around Christmas. I do like that they've found a way to actually pass the ball to the big men. I also like the sort of press they've started using. I don't think it needs to be a turnover generator, but taking time off the clock and shortening possessions really helps.

As many have said, the competition the last two games hasn't been stellar (of course tell Ohio State that about Rutgers and they might disagree, at least for one half tonight). That said, what I love to see is we didn't play down to their level. We came out and played our game, then stepped on their throats. Haven't seen that in a long time here.

You could say those last 2 teams were really bad, but I think our guys had a lot to do with making them look that way.

I think we've been playing hugely better these last 2 games than we did against Samford and Northwestern.  There's just a different energy and a different effort level.  You can say it's just the level of competition, but I think we're just flat playing better.

When Tai Webster tweeted that the team had "turned a corner" after the Iowa loss, you could have scoffed and thought they were empty words.  But I see a difference in their overall play.  I really do.  I thought the ball movement against Minnesota was way better than during that 3-game skid.  They're attacking the paint, doing a much better job of interior passing and dishing down low, and getting high percentage looks inside.  They're also pushing the ball so much better in transition.  Minnesota had to go away from the press because it wasn't working.

All the things we'd be complaining about on this board are getting fixed.  Very encouraged by that.
