Washut tweeted that Thomas plans on a Nebraska official visit and is hopefully on the 16th

That's the day after the HOF banquet, so the biggest names in Husker hoops history will be around that weekend.

OK, reading that back, it sounds a little less impressive than I had intended.

Gotta work with whatcha got.  Throw Pike, Strickland, Reid, Badgett, Chubick, and that Lue guy at him and dare him to say no.

Webster, Fuller, Shields, Thomas, and PItchford would be a lineup that not too many teams could match-up with and probably solve a lot of rebounding issues.

I dont see Fuller at the 2 though in any scenario.  Would it be great, of course, but he would get beat constantly by the quicker guards in this league.  he needs to stick to the 3 and 4 where he matches up better at both ends for NU.

yea. It's not going to be a starting lineup, but it might be a lineup to use against a team like Minnesota that have a bunch of slashers. Gallegos should be the 2 next year. Not sure what 2015 will look like. Hawkins will be the only other true sg after gallegos leaves. If NU gets Atewe and Thomas, the lack of experience should be the only thing NU has to overcome to have a really good team.

I assume that Webster can play either the pg or sg positions. In fact, after watching the little film that is out there on him, I wonder if he won't be better suited to the sg position.

Rivals just reported that Kevin Thomas will no longer take a recruiting trip to Nebraska this weekend and that Nebraska is going a different direction. They do not feel Kevin fills our need. I am not sure what this means. Do we have other Juco options? Will we settle on one highschool player like Atewe?

I am disappointed as I thought that Kevin could be an immediate help in the middle next year. Now where are we? I am sure that Coach Miles and staff have a plan.

I'm not disappointed because the coaches know how glaring of a need we have for bigs. If they choose note to pursue him, obviously there's a reason.

Good point. My disappointment stems from the fact I get sold on a player. I am certain you are correct and that the coaches have a solid plan.

It's disappointing because we obviously spent time pursuing the kid and now we've decided, this late in the process, that he no longer fits the bill.

UNLESS ...

Unless he was Plan B and Plan A has firmed up and we no longer need Plan B.  Then, we tell Plan B, sorry, but we no longer need to go your direction.

THAT wouldn't be disappointing at all.

Interestingly, three days ago, Matt Atewe retweeted a message from someone named Brian Hamer who said, "Only 24 more days until your birthday and you announce your a Husker."

I saw that tweet as well but just assumed it was from NU basketball fan hoping and pleeding him to announce he will become a Husker on his birthday.

Yeah, but he chose to retweet it.  Coulda ignored it.  He also retweeted a Miles halftime tweet and the tweet of Miles doing the Harlem Shake.  And I didn't see any tweets about any of those other 5 schools in his final 6.  That's my point.  Signs are pointing to us having a 4th commit to this recruiting class, which would be why we're heading a different direction from Thomas.

The way I look at the situation Norm is something you alluded to earlier when talking to Coach Harriman about the APR numbers.  If we got Atewe that leaves us with one scholarship available.  If the coaches know they are flirting with the APR number by losing a player that they need to have another year of keeping everyone that they cant afford to get even a two year player because that only leaves one scholarship with no attrition next season.  I think miles really wants 2 kids for next cycle so to fill the need Miles could go for a one year grad. transfer to fill the need as well as keeping that spot available for 2014.  Could be looking into way more than I should but its a theory.

The news about Kevin makes me think Atewe will be here for sure, and Miles is going to go after a 1 year transfer. There really is not any other scenario that would make sense.

That's kinda what I'm figuring as well.  The only reason I could imagine that we'd chill on Thomas is if we got Plan A committed.  I mean, the signs are very strong that Atewe is N.  Thomas being out and all the Husker-related retweets on Atewe's twitter feed.

Occam's razor:  The simplest explanation is usually correct.  This is the simplest explanation.

I hope you are correct.  I tend to agree with you but didn't want to get my hopes up.  This would be another good get for Miles and company if true.  They continue to impress me with recruiting and the willingness to battle any school in the country to get quality players here.

Beware the Tweet.  Veil did that in football, sounding very 'N', and then promptly signed with Maryland.
