Hypothetical scrimmage lineups: Pick a winner

  1. 1. If they ran it back 10 times, the lineup that would win most often would be ...

    • Reds = Returning players including Benny Parker, Tai Webster, Nick Fuller, Shavon Shields and Jake Hammond
      14
    • Whites = Newcomers including Glynn Watson, Andrew White, Jack McVeigh, Ed Morrow and Michael Jacobson
      18

When I was in college this game was actually played since freshmen had a separate team which played a separate schedule and were not eligible for varsity. The KU frosh team featuring Jojo White actually beat the varsity in a laugher which certainly was not a positive harbinger of good tidings for the upcoming year. And someone give me an "up" for using "harbinger" so early in the morning.

Well, experience counts to be sure, but more people were picking Jacobson to start over Hammond than vice versa. Between Fuller and McVeigh, who ya got? Between Webster and White, who ya got? Certainly, you take Shields over a 4-star recruit like Ed Morrow, but do you give a significant edge to Parker over a 4-star recruit like Glynn Watson? It would be interesting to see.

Every year, our fans have recruits more ready to play than the recruits are ready to play.   Hell, the only question now is whether Patrick O'Brien starts immediately or shortly after arrival, not whether he ends up like Harrison Beck or Peyton Manning.

Where's Anton Gill?

Next year, 9er. Next year.

Didn't Andrew White participate in last year's scrimmage though?  I see no reason why Gill should not be in this year's scrimmage.

Understood. I just think there's a disconnect between the results of the earlier thread about Hammond starting (most thought he wouldn't) and then picking the vets to win. If Jacobson beats out Hammond, then the newcomers would have an edge in at least three positions. Is the experience factor for Parker and Shields that significant?

My bad, I thought this was Normy's fictional scenario of who might beat whom.

Anton would put the newcomers over the top, IMHO.
