Looks like jess is taller than 6'3, Rachel is listed at 6'2.

I believe Jess is 6'4".
You are right 6'4" it is. I must have looked at the height wrong, with said Blackburn is listed at 6'3" does shepard have pumps on.

They all look good.

Dirrk.... is there a chance you might know #43 in the pix ?   She looks to be an awesome add to the team. How's she liking her new environment at NU and the Bball team ?

We're sure excited to see her here !

In the thumbnail that dirrk provided, notice that Maddie seems to be as tall as Rachel.  That's a guard we are looking at.  I heard that she was still growing.  With her ball handling skills and natural speed she could be a matchup problem.  I am really getting excited about this bunch of newcomers.

I know 43... I can only speak about her. Her two classes went fine.

Despite my forewarnings regarding being homesick (experience from my Army days), she was very, very homesick at first. It was doom and gloom homesick. But that's over... She has remained in Lincoln the entire time and has adjusted very well. She refers to all of her teammates as friends. She pals around with Romeo a bit.

She told us that she has learned so much in such a short time. The learning curve is steep, but she comes to play hard and learn. The women played the guys a week or two ago and she reported that she more than held her own against them.

Prior to Rachel's arrival, Coach Yori stressed the importance of arriving physically fit/prepared. Rachel worked hard, and it has paid off. However, she is sore due to all the hard work.

We'll see how it goes.

i hope chandler smith has picked up her game, especially on the offensive side of the ball. didn't she come in known more for her offensive skills? anyway, watching her play as a freshman, her court presence was pretty impressive---showing quite a bit of potential. i hope she worked hard during the off season---imo, she may just have her hands full with competition from the newcomers. was just curious if there is any word on her progress.

btw, a big thanks to dlrrk for the info! looking forward to watching rachel compete as a husker!!!

My judgment tells me not to comment on Miss Smith.  Last year she seemed like an outstanding young player.

Rachel will be home tomorrow (Friday).  She's home until just before departure to Australia.  She'll have prescribed workouts.

She told us yesterday that she's been working with Coach Stephens on footwork (after practice).

Coach Yori calls my Rachel "RB" because Rachel = Rachel Theriot.  Some call her "Burns."  She wouldn't mind just being called Blackburn.

Rachel is a tough girl.  I think you'll enjoy watching her toughness and hustle.  Of course I'm biased, but I'll challenge anyone to find a tougher girl on the court.

diirk...do you know the Austrialian schedule?  When they leave and get back?

It should be a great experience for Rachel...getting to see that part of the world....let alone playing internationally with her new NU team.

Kind of saw her last years progress as an uphill grind, because of the injuries. Unfortunately she missed maybe a third the season, and importantly lots early freshman practices that would have gotten her started the right way.

Wouldn't be a bit surprised to see her really take off this year. She just seems to need one or two positive things happen, and she will relax.... and just play. Even last years playing time should make a huge difference as we move along this year.

She has the lots of the necessary skills.....she will excel this year.

I'm told they're scheduled to depart on 1 Aug and return on/about 12 Aug.

I understand they're playing a few games against some good Australian teams.  They go to three cities.

It seems they're doing a lot of cool team building things.  Rachel mentioned scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef.

I know it will be winter there, so they're getting issued some good cold weather gear.

It seems like the trip of a lifetime.

that's good to hear/read. the huskers are going to need that leadership and stability she provides---ever more so with the departure of smith. in one way, i kinda feel bad for rachel---knowing that this is most likely gonna be a pretty young team for her senior year. on the other hand, it could be a perfect fit for these young huskers. this may be where rachel really shines. it is what it is.
