I know I may be talking apples and oranges, but for me it wasn't the "offense" that created the angst, it was the "execution" of the offense (if that makes sense).

Assume for a minute that a a team is like the legs of a chair.  The chair can look wonderful, and works without issue.  But if you remove a leg or two, the chair wiil wobble and fail to work as it was designed to work.  Our offense was missing a leg or two or three.  TP would penetrate, kick it out for an open look and either the shot was missed or not taken.  For the chair (offense) to work, you need all legs (players) to work and function as designed.

I know, I know...likely a bad analogy.  But as mentioned in a very well done previous thread, the various offense (and plays) we run should work, we just need all the players to work on their games and master their roles.

There was a long article in Sports Illustrated last week by Seth Davis noting that ALL college basketball is losing fan interest and becoming unwatchable because of the emphasis over the past couple of decades on "physical" play and the evolution of "pack" defenses at the expense of offensive prowess in coaching techniques. He recommended rules changes before the college game loses appeal for the casual masses who prefer to watch offenses. He contrasts the approaches of Wooden and Knight and blames the whole thing on Bobby. While this oversimplifies things, he does make some valid points. So perhaps instead of blaming Miles for our poor offense this year, we should point our fingers at "the General".

The good ones ones don't need the likability crutch.  They count on results.

By no means am I calling for Miles, NU is a tough gig. But not as tough as it used to be during the Doc and Barry years. Think about it, one year after losing one player, I repeat one player, and still having  the leading scorer and first team all big ten player team player plus and honorable mention all conference return and go down the tubes like this!

Curious, what does 16 of your shots getting blocked mean to you.  Bad luck, bad hair day, great coaching, but things didn't work out?  Or, at least we have some type of record, but I dont care, I go to bed every night after listening to Miles post game  show  funnies holding my tummy because I'm laugh so hard

If Doc Sadler has Pelini's personality, does he stay here 6 years?

If Pelini has Sadler's personality, is he still the coach?

Doesn't Bobby Knight retire at Indiana if anyone in the administration can stand him?

Unless you are the exception to the rule, even the good ones have off years. Likability might not be the deciding factor on whether or not a coach gets canned, but it's definitely A factor on how much rope a coach gets. Miles has been building programs his entire life though a combination of winning and putting butts in the seats. When's the last time you heard one of those Yahoos on the radio sarcastically say "We have a basketball team?"  Sure part of that has been the new facility but it has also been Miles building up the program by doing what he does. When you have the torch and pitchfork crew calling in the morning doesn't it help if the hosts of the show buys into what Miles is doing? Losing sucks. Tim Miles makes it suck relatively less. That matters.

By no means calling out Miles? All you had to do was make your first three sentences about flushing the season and having help on the way. That's pretty sound advice to me. Then you specifically call out Miles. "Miles is on notice" is the literal definition of calling him out! This entire combative thread is specifically about you calling out Miles.

Finally, my thought on the Penn St game was that it was a fitting microcosm to what was essentially a lost year and I'm treating it an awful lot like toilet water, not taking pot shots at the coach or team.

After our shaky start Miles slowed things down on offense to try and win close low scoring games. Hindsight is the biggest reason to disagree with that decision.

We tried to limit turnovers, which is nearly essential to competing in the B1G. Unfortunately, our half-court offense became too stale & bogged down on 1 half of the court instead of swinging the ball side-to-side.  Many occasions, it seemed that Terran and/or Shavon tended to 'try' something on 1 side of the court only while the others watched. Ball movement as a team concept suffered, and other shooters disappeared. What happened to the "Pitch perfect" (13-1 when WP for 3 was the 1st made shot), Walt went down dramatically from 42.5% to 27.5% on the three-ball.  And, if you really want to feel queasy, go study Nebraska's shooting percentages (not many 50% 2-pt shot makers in the bunch & not many 35%  on 3-pt'ers either)...

And that's one thing I couldn't stand about the post game show on the Ticket. After one game they host asked is Miles on the hot seat? His reasoning for asking that is there had been a couple posts on the facebook page about it so he had to address it. No you do not. You can let the idiots be idiots in silence. I even heard it a day or two later on the afternoon show. You still don't need to address it. This is one of the reasons I quit listening to sports talk radio.

I read somewhere on the internet that Coach Riley is on the hot seat.

That is actually true. He is the football coach for the Cornhusker state. Even jayskers can agree on that. ;)

Like Seve told fellow Ryder Cup Captain Paul Azinger after a Ryder Cup dispute,"Let's treat this like bad toilet water and flush it."

The same should apply to this season.

Help is on the way.

Miles is on notice.  Nebraska has too much to offer in terms of facilities and fan base for back-to-back seasons like this one.

Given that you feel the need to take a shot at someone on the team in most every post you make, it's not a shock that you're underestimating the likability of Miles and discounting how much more rope that gets one in life. He's going to get an extension this year and he'll be back for year 5 even if he goes something like 9-20.

Miles is going to figure this out and the administration here is patient enough to weather the bumps. There is no doubt that if you're posting here in three years it will be Miles and a new set of players to zing for now winning but not winning enough.

Uh, it tells me that we were going to try and attack the rim.  Not all that complicated.  And it partially worked as we got 24 offensive rebounds to just 8 for them.  Included were many easy baskets off the blocked shots.  Are you really so simple minded to not look at the entire picture when evaluating the 16 blocks?  We don't outrebound Big 10 teams by 17 very often, and it is obvious to most of the rest of us that much of it was due to attacking.  We get a few calls when Shields got fouled three teams in a row, on three obvious bad calls we may well win the ball game as a result of attacking them like we did.  Maybe think a little before you troll.

I know I may be talking apples and oranges, but for me it wasn't the "offense" that created the angst, it was the "execution" of the offense (if that makes sense).  Interesting take, we had a football coach who said it was a lack of execution that was the issue and no one wanted to believe him.  I think it was more than that with him.  As for your point, we did miss a lot of wide open looks when the offense was run correctly (not someone chucking up a shot early in the shot clock or forcing the issue down the land).

Same diff, 9er! The seat is ALWAYS hot in the football realm. Particularly when you're not going 60-3 in a 5-yr stretch. ;)

And winning a conference championship is never good enough.

You know what they say... go big, or go home and complain about it on the internet.
