Just a quick thank for everything that many have done over the years to make this the best place to live.

Grandpa Chuck would have been on Omaha Beach but for a bad back.

Uncle Dave who was in Japan during the Korean War.

And to Dad who made it all the way to Colorado before they found that he had a bad hip that wouldn't let him in.

Thanks again for everybody who served.

My father in law served in the Navy and was on a mine sweeper that went to the South Pacific and swept mines before the allied forces invaded Guam, Iwo Jima and the countless other islands in the South Pacific. And My Dad was State side in the Army-Air Force. He is Deceased.

Thanks to my father for his service Okinawa and the other various islands leading to the occupation of Japan after the war...for putting up with the injuries after his service was over...but mostly for coming back and begetting me!

And to my Uncle Jack, who never had those opportunities after giving his all in the Battle of the Bulge.

And to my friends that served in Korea and Nam and every other veteran that served anywhere for my protection.

Good thoughts, Silverback.  A shout out to CWG's late father, who was an exemplary veteran if there ever was one.

Yup...tough day.  First veteran's day where I couldn't tell him thank you.  He was my hero, and beyond that was a true hero.  37 missions over the European theater, Purple Heart, and a number of other accomodations.  He couldn't watch the movie the Memphis Belle as it was too real.  For a number of years he couldn't talk about the years, but he eventually wrote his bio of his war years, plus his years growing up in the depression.  Pretty compelling stuff my friends.  He was a great friend, a great Dad, a great man, and I really miss him.

I have told this to very few people...he was a Husker fan through and through.  He also loved the Royals.  When he was very close to the end, I was visiting with him...on a whim I said, hey Dad, when you are in heaven, will you keep a close eye on Husker basketball (my sister who is a Creighton fan didn't appreciate it), and Royals baseball.  Perhaps you can talk the good Lord into a World Series appearence for the Royals and a NCAA basketball win for the Husker basketball team....WELL, he got it done with the Royals...

Whew, that was therapeutic.

He must have been a very good man, cwg.

Like I said my grandpa didn't get out of the states and was where all the boys(as he called them) were training to go to Omaha Beach. He lived to be 96 and he talked bout how he felt bad that he didn't go over to fight, especially the last year of his life. I think he carried some guilt about it, but he had a good life and did good things with his time here so he didn't disrespect any of his fellow soldiers.
