bkamler Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 Come on guys creighton university is in the NCAA Tournament again. It is located in nebraska and to date has a long history of basketball success that dwarfs my beloved Huskers. The majority of its fans are Husker football fans and I would wager most are husker basketball fans when creighton isn't playing the Huskers. I've been a husker fan since 1958 and have mildly been a creighton basketball since then also. I got one am rooting for creighton! Quote
NU Hoops Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 My perspective is probably skewed, but listening to Bishop and Bahe constantly talking up Creighton all year as if they are the UCLA teams of the 1970's has turned me off. I really wouldn't mind seeing Creighton lose tommorrow simply because of those two and 1620. I don't hate Creighton, most of their fans I know are cool. Just Bishop and Bahe are irritating to me, I guess. AuroranHusker 1 Quote

royalfan Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 Scott Drew makes it easier to root for Creighton. As does getting caught price enforcing in an auction. I can get on board. I have some friends that are Jaysker types here in Omaha that like both programs. Bigger Creighton fans than Nebraska fans in basketball. But like both. Won't be the end of the world if they are happy. If it weren't for Grant Gibbs and the entire team flopping a lot, it would be easier. There are a lot of them that aren't like Double Douche and the lunatic fringe fans on the dumpster fire message board they have. Quote

Norm Peterson Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 Now that the game's over and I can't be accused of just cheering for them because they won (since they didn't win), I can say I cheered for Creighton to win this one. It has nothing to do with wanting to see either team lose. It had everything to do with wanting to see Doug McDermott keep going. I don't care what anyone says: The kid is an amazing talent. I wish he was still playing. I'm sorry to see his college career end in the real 2nd round of the NCAA tourney and especially end on such a sour note. He was really fun to watch. The kid was just a great, great basketball player. And from the purist's perspective, I could appreciate that. AuroranHusker 1 Quote

colhusker Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 Such disparity between the level of physicality that was permitted between the Nebraska and Creighton game. Neither team even got into the bonus in the first half of the CU game. "Gotta adjust to the officiating" hold NO water with me. What's the point of having RULES when they are, in fact, being enforced as subjective GUIDELINES? Tenn and UMass game was physical too. Guess those officials realized all the folks in the stands didn't come to see them. Thank you for this comment! The poorly officated games come when the officials want to be the show! (whenever Ted Valentine officiates) The inconisistency from game to game in rules interpretation is mind boggling. Every game today in San Antonio from my vantage point was a varying degree on what is a foul and what is not a foul, what is traveling and what is not traveling (I detest the Euro step!) I detest the palming that is allowed, the Euro step, the jump stop etc. Quote

Not cheering for their program, per se, but I'm giving credit where credit is due. The kid was a terrific basketball player at the college level and fun to watch. I have not a bad word to say about him. Nor should anyone else. We want people to appreciate and not attack the good people and good aspects of our program, like Coach Miles, and it would be hypocritical if we couldn't acknowledge a great player on someone else's bench who has comported himself well during his career. I have no problem with the way Doug has behaved as a player and I've been nothing but impressed with the quality of his play. Now, the Gibbs fella on the other hand, he's a kid you love to hate. And, don't worry, I'm not going to start cheering for the Jays "except for when they play Nebraska." Neither here nor there for me. I do want us to beat them, and I'll definitely be up for that rivalry game, but aside from that I don't care one way or the other. But, as a fan of the game, I can appreciate a player like Doug McDermott. It's just too bad he didn't show up for his last college game. AuroranHusker and REDZONEDAN 2 Quote
lanigan123 Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 I think you can say that about them this time. Retooling in the big east is different than the MVC. hhcmatt 1 Quote
AuroranHusker Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 Spot on Normy... Dougie McBuckets was fun to watch play the game. Great player who plays the game well in all aspects offensively. DMcD's 3,150 points collegiately is top 5 all-time. Impressive 4-yr transformation of his game in the process... I'm sure his father/coach will miss him greatly!! Quote

Reference the Illinois game to see traveling on a regular layup.and you can travel during a Europstep but it is not inherently a travel. And I don't get how a jumps top can be a bad thing? Quote

AFAIK, I think colhusker is referencing the ill-stepped "jump stop" that is not called a travel (i.e. the player didn't plant both feet at the same time). Quote
