Those of us who played basketball know that when your shot is too long or too short but online it's an easy correction.

Likewise when your shot is consistently left or right but has the right distance you simply make sure your follow through is on target and the shots begin to fall again.

I have been watching his shot for about 7 or 8 games and he is to the left and short one time and then to the right and long the next time and so on and so on. His misses are horribly off almost every time.

In this situation the correction requires a complete dissection of his shot which is pretty hard to do at this stage of the season. Someone asked me what would you do as a coach and I jokingly said have him see a hypnotist.

The more I think about it "why not"? Your thoughts?

I can't fix his shot but he can. That's the Catch-22. He's not making buckets because he lacks confidence. With confidence he will be shooting fine. He needs to make buckets to gain confidence. Hence, the catch.

But maybe we've created this problem in our own minds. I could look it up (but won't),  is his shooting percentage really that much lower than last years. Might he just not be taking near as many shots?

If it's a mental thing, perhaps a shift back to the starting lineup is the answer.

BTW, while they've been limited, what do you think of Hawkins and Parker's shots?

His overall shooting percentage is actually better this year on roughly half the shots.

i like Hawkins shot, he seems confident and form wise it looks clean, between him and fuller, and if tai (good form, has history of being strong shooter, lacks confidence), and fuller we will have dead shooters next year.

i really respect that Parker, and Rivers have begun to find their range, 15-20 feet, and last two games find their comfort, parker dosnt like the 3, so he steps in 2 feet takes a two, not a statistical analysts favorite shot, but at least he likes it, and is willing to shoot making defenses honest.

volume scorers are funny that way. you take away the volume, they tend to look crappy.  last year, ray was a .306 shooter with heavy volume. below average by quite a bit. his carer percentage is a fairly dismal .292, at least for someone graded as a shooting guard. What he's doing this season is in line with his career numbers. If he gets volume, he can score. But the price for his points is high, as he has to take a lot of shots from teammates to do so.

I'd rather see Pitchford, Shields, Petteway and Webster improve their shots since they'll be around longer.

Three games left in the regular season of his senior year is a hell of a time to worry about fixing Ray's shot.

Reminds me of one of the first Danny Nee call-in shows going into Venson Hamilton's senior year and Danny was saying they'd spent time in fall practices working on teaching Venson a low post move.  And I remember thinking "Wow, nothing like waiting until a guy's a senior to teach him how to play, right?"

Dead on about being a bigger problem when they are drifting left and right.  Actually have tried to figure out if that is the case with him.  I was thinking that was the case, but obviously it must be for sure with your eye telling you that.  Even last night I was wondering if he was just way too long when he about shattered the glass on that trey.  Wasn't sure.

I think we need to put him in the starting lineup for Tai.  Design a play or two early to free him up.  If he is nowhere near, get him out.  If he makes one or two, he may get it back.  And him getting it back would be ridiculously huge for us.

NOOOOOO

The answer is sit your butt down until you've proven you're mentally tough and can do other things on the court outside of hitting shots. Forget about shooting - are you an incredible help defender? Rebounding your tail off? Setting great screens? Running the floor with a purpose? Creating for other teammates with the dribble drive?

Maybe shots will fall after that.

I think it's already been established that he is a pretty good defender. Plus, he in my opinion, he's a pretty decent rebounder for a guard. I don't have the trained eye, though

Sorry just disagree with you 100%. Rey is an open gym player. Capable of doing many good things at any given time, so he looks like a good player. There's just zero consistency with his game. Which is what makes a solid basketball player. He can make highlight plays, which is why you think you have to play him. But can he make basic plays every possession? The answer to that in my opinion is no.

But, I'm really just not a fan of his game - and when I start arguing I'll literally say anything to sound right even if I have no idea what in talking about. So who knows haha?
