.....of heartache, bang bang. Miles is the warrior. :)

Okay, maybe Tim Miles looks more like a bespectacled Doogie Howser than he does William Wallace, but appearances can be deceiving. I really think Coach Miles is the right man at the right time for this Husker program. We all know this year has the chance to be pretty ugly win-wise, but I guarantee you Miles will make it entertaining. I'm going to enjoy the journey this year regardless what happens on the court.

I also want to thank all the veterans out there for your service to this country. You are the TRUE warriors.

Let's get a win tonight and get the Miles chapter in the Big Red basketball story started off on the right foot.

Go Big Red!

I'm confused, do we post here or in the gameday chat?

I don't know. I asked dimes if he still wanted me to do these and he said yes. It's overkill to me. I see no reason to have a thread if there's a chatroom. Whatever. I'm easy.

wow, cip. yeah, the new site's going to be a tough adjustment for game threads. wish we could have SBs system. thanks for giving the effort. probably homes games are going to be like this. should pick up for road play. I hope.

anyway, interesting game. we're going to get butchered in the B1G.

I really think that for the first game we did some good things. Ubel, Talley, and Gallegos all played well. I think that at times we are going to have difficulty with ball handling as that was evident today. Should be able to tell a lot more after we play Valpo on Thursday. But hey a win is a win! 1-0.

I haven't been around for the last two games during the game so I'm just unsure what people would gravitate towards

Anyone hear Miles on the post game show? He mentioned what he calls "milk". He said we couldn't push the lead out enough in the 2nd half to run "milk" but he said we would've if we had been up by a couple more possessions. He said that when we get a big enough lead we will shorten the game by draining the shot clock down to 10 seconds or so before we run any attempt to score. Wasn't the entire Doc Sadler era "milk"? I thought this was interesting. Miles said that if you get a lead and have crazy talent, you just keep playing. But until the talent around here improves, you run "milk" to shorten the game. Very interesting stuff because that was Doc's entire strategy and he got killed for it. The problem with the prior regime was that the talent never improved. Correct thinking to maximize wins with the players you have to operate with, just couldn't ever bring in better talent. I think we've already seen what Miles can do in the recruiting department.

I thought we made huge strides from the midland exhibition game. Not near as sloppy, Ubel, Talley and Gallegos had pretty good games. I think as Parker plays more, he will be a stud! Need Shields to get healthy and be part of the rotation and I think we can be fairly competitive. Not near as bad as I thought we would be.

Parker has enough quicks to play at this level. He needs to get in better shape; he was tired and took a lot of possessions off on defense. If basketball didn't require ballhandling and shooting, Rivers would be pretty good. Ray played very good on offense....and very poorly on defense. It was clear after a couple of minutes Peltz can't play at this level--unless his balky knee was the reason. He is slow and can't handle it well. He got broken down 3 straight possessions. Didn't see much time after that, so Miles saw it. But, on the radio show, he mentioned the bad knee. Hopefully that was a big part of it. All in all, I'm happy with the win--I will be happy with any win we can get, no matter the competition.

I remember Doc's strategy being to run down the shot clock the entire game, not when you are up by 10 or more points. I believe that is why NU was scoring about 36 points a game last year.

Yes it was for the entire game but when we did get a lead we often went into don't attack mode and would drain the shot clock. I think Miles will find away to use this strategy without completely losing all aggressiveness. One game that sticks in my mind for some reason is the Texas game 3 yrs ago or whenever that was. We completely quick attacking to the point where there would be 2 seconds left on the shot clock before anyone would think about getting ready to shoot and it nearly cost us the game. I have always felt that if you're being aggressive and having success and build a lead, that you should just continue to do what got you there. But there is something to say for shortening the game by a couple possessions when you can.

The entire team looked gas at the end. Obviously we are short handed, but I would think the conditioning would be there. Didn't we hire a coach just for that? I don't see how Almeida plays more than 5 minutes at a time. The guy looked like he was going to faceplant quite a few times last night.

There is nothing wrong with "milk" as long as the attacking starts with 10-15 seconds left on the shoot clock instead of the aforementioned 2.
