Rivers and Parker play their hearts out and always do little things that don't show up on the stat sheet.

I'd be interested to know what little things (no pun intended) that you think Parker does that doesn't show up on the stat sheet?  He's not a great shooter, he can't be used to double team, he constantly gets beat off the dribble by the guy he is guarding, etc....  I'm not saying he doesn't put forth any effort as I know he's paying as hard as can but just curious what things you think he does that don't show up on the stat sheet?

Benny is one of the better defenders on ball that we have IMO.

In the first half, when Benny came into the game, the first thing he did was to apply strong defensive pressure on his man that resulted in a turnover and a break-away bucket for the Huskers. That was all Benny's effort and pressure.

I believe we are starting to get a clearer picture of of our rotation:

Pettaway 35+ min   He's our best player right now although if Shavon can continue to play like he did against OSU he might get challenged for that title.

Shields 35+ min      What a difference a week makes! It's taken him awhile to get used to is teammates and he's had to fight through a knee injury. We would have beaten both Mich and Purdue.

Biggs 25+ min   He does so many things well offensively. He has no fear and brings a lot of fire and passion both positively and negatively. He does pout when things aren't going his way and he tends to get caught up in negative emotions which causes him to lose focus during the game. Miles has a lot of work in front of him to get him  right mind set.

Webster 25+ min     You can see that he is starting to get his confidence. His size at the guard position creates a lot of mismatches.

*All 4 of these guys need to do a better job of taking care of the ball.

Smith 20+ min         I'd like to see him get more minutes. If he has bad knees he doesn't show it on the court. He does so many things. He had 3 steals. He uses his body well and has good hands. He has great energy on & off the court.

Gallegos 15+ min    As many of have mentioned when he is on the court he draws a lot of attention.

Pitchford 15+ min    I'd like to see him on the court with Smith a bit more. He needs to find his stroke.

Rivers 5+                 I like what I saw from him against OSU.

Parker 5+                Situational only when we need someone to handle the ball. I expect nothing from him in the scoring department. He's one of our better on ball defenders.

My Starting Lineup:

Pettaway

Sheilds

Smith

Webster

Biggs

Bench: Pitchford, Gallegos, Rivers, Parker

We had some issues at the start of the 2nd half that could have cost us the game. We were playing very tentative and were not taking care of the ball...a bad combination. I'm not sure if this is because Tim told them to slow down or our players were more tentative trying to hold onto the lead. However, we did something that we haven't done this year and that was we didn't fall apart. Also, we appear to be playing more in sync. Most of our TO's were the result of OSU playing inspired defense in the 2nd half. To much standing around with arms down in the zone. We are a better defensive team when we play man-to-man. OSU just appeared to be playing very flat as if they didn't want to be there or they thought they could just show up and win either way, as well as we played, OSU played like a team in a slump. We better not get to cocky about this victory. We could easily lose to PSU on the road.

3 of our next 5 are on the road where we have a chance to go 3-2.  After that 5 of the remaining 8 are at home where we have a very good chance to go 4-4. Win one in the Big Tourney and we would get a home game in the NIT. We've been in every game this year except for our road game against OSU. All of this starts with a win on the road against PSU. With our remaining schedule we could win all of our remaining home games.

This why we, student section or PBA powers that be need to get a new start of the second half tradition.

Right now that tradition is to come out to a nice golf clap, and no energy from anybody.

End of rant.

I don't know how many others on here attend UNO hockey, but they turn out all the lights about 3-4 minutes before the 2nd & 3rd periods begin and show another "pump up" video, just before the teams return to the ice. Might be tough to duplicate that in hoops, because the visitors could come out of the locker room and warm up at any point - OSU was out pretty early last night to warm up, I think with 5 minutes left before the start of the 2nd half - and I'm not sure they want to run their layup drills in the dark. ;) But maybe a specific song and/or something on the video board that's only played before the 2nd half begins would help?

I think the biggest thing that helped shields last night was being able to play the 3 a lot more than he has for the last few games.

I would like to see Pitchford and Smith in the game at the same time, with Rivers rotating in at the 4.  When Shields can play the 3 he almost always has a smaller man on him and can take him to the hoop.

This!!!!!!

I was one who wanted Rivers to gets some of Shields minutes while Shields was hurting.

Now I am seeing that if Rivers and Shields play at the same time Shields can shift over to the 3 and drive much easier.

Concerning our 2nd half slump.  I agree that the energy in the building was dead.  Especially considering we had had a crappy end to the first half.

I don't know how to fix it but we need to get it fixed.

We are amped at the end of the first half.  We eat expensive hot dogs and nachos and watch a "sometimes" cool half time performance or some dude chasing a $100 bill and then boom, the second half starts.  The engine has been turned off or at best, is in idle.  How do you fix that, you have to restart the motor.  I turn to the students...ya gotta find the keys to the ignition and get the engine going.

The human mind has an incredible ability to block out pain and bad memories as time passes...but I recall the CU game differently...perhaps because of friends that won't let me forget.

Other than that...I like your viewpoint.

I had a guy who doesn't typically go to Husker games comment that he thought the start of the second half was weird...that while the Huskers were struggling that the crowd was just completely dead....that it took the Huskers getting going to get the crowd going...not the other way around.
