Hey Guys,

I know every opinion is valued, but let's remember as fans that we're in this together. I guess what I'm saying is that one of the things I appreciate most about this board is the good nature we have and how we don't attack each other. I'm not saying we are already attacking each other. Let's just agree to take our frustrations out on Creighton, or Plainview or whatever they're called. :)

 

Sadly the poor showing so far will only bring out some negativity.  Hope we all realize though that all is not lost.

 

 

Well... we have the talent to beat anyone we play this year... bad thing is we have the team that could lose to anyone as well.  Right the ship... get out of Charleston with a W and get back home.  Lot of learning to do.

I wouldn't say we have the talent to beat anyone...our only big man is 6-8. I don't count Pitchford as a big man because he is terrible on defense and doesn't play in the post on offense. With that lack of size, we're going to get abused by teams with good inside play, i.e. most Big Ten teams.

 

 

We agree to disagree... I think we could beat ANYONE.  If we could hang and almost beat teams last year, this team could as well.

That is the worse defense I have seen in a long time.  Letting them drive to the basket time and time again is just not acceptable.  If they didn't score, they received free throws.  Pitchford is just awful defensively.  It appears that all they want to do is play offense.  You just do not win that way.  If they don't learn to play defense, it will be a long year even though they are athletic.  They will not win many in the Big 10 unless the defense improves immensely.

I will agree with this!  One thing about last years team is most of them played for Doc, and he was one hell of a defensive coach.  We are going to need major improvement in this area.  Benny is our best defender right now.

Goin to be a long years folks. Probably should be expected. This is going to be a 4-5 year project based on Tim Miles past work. But, at the least it would be nice to see a team playing with effort. Second half was just bad bad bad...coaches and the players should be embarrassed.

 

We can't get more post players in here fast enough

Negativity will come. I'm not happy with the result or the defensive effort. But I think it's more fun to take it out on the Jays rather than each other. :)

I think one of us should ask Tim that question at one of the get together. Why did we drop Fehro and sign Vooch. Then we can put it to bed once and for all.

 

At that time, Fahro = 2 years and Vooch = 4 years.

Tim wasn't building to win games in the first 2 years....he was building to win for the next two.

Given the choice between the two at the time, the majority of us would have went with Vooch as well if that was the choice.

First of all, he didn't sign Vooch instead of Fahro.  He could have signed both.  He ended up cutting Fahro and was left with a scholarship that went completely unused (unless you count the gift to Menke) both last year AND this year.  That scholarship was completely wasted.

 

Second, what most people on this board would have wanted is irrelevant.  It is the HC's job to be able to identify talent.  In the end, how many stars a guy has or how many teams are recruiting a guy is irrelevant.  The only thing that matters is whether the recruit can play at a high level in Div. 1 basketball.  The good coaches identify that talent and sign them.

 

It was a mistake.  Plain and simple.  He has to live with it.  We have to live with it.  A mistake that I am not sure I will ever fully understand considering that Fahro was signed and delivered and Miles chose to cut him and simply eat the scholarship instead.  But I guess we  have to move on.  Nothing we can do it about it now.  But man, he really blew it on that one, no doubt.
