I feel like this depends on if they can help your program in the time frame that you get them.  Bringing in someone last year that was only going to be here for a year after sitting a season would not of been as beneficial as bringing in a few guys that are decent players that will help our program for 2 to 3 years!

Each has had game experience and each has been at least going up against D1 kids in practice for 3 years now.  That really helps, though it levels out just a little bit when your talking 5 to 6 new faces in the top 9 to 10.

Brilliant if those two transfers turn out to be the type of players who can move us up the ladder.  Time will tell.  I love these two transfers (Petteway and Pitchford).  Yet, they have not proven anything yet.  Pitchford looked good in the scimmage, despite laying out Shavon.  However, he rarely saw the floor at Florida.  I have heard that Petteway is a workout demon.  Both had good HS reputations.  So, we will see.  I am optimistic, but I want to see the product on the floor and winning.

Well, I think it's frickin' brilliant.  Doc you really can't compare to because of the timing of when he arrived but look at what Barry Collier did by contrast.  In order to fill roster vacancies, Collier brought in 3 jucos and a freshman.  Tell me what kind of players you think will still be available if you're just getting in on them after coaching-change season?  That's right, leftovers.  And that's what Collier got.  He got three jucos who, at best, spend at least a part of their first season getting up to speed on the D1 game before being gone after the next year.  And at worst you get three kids who never really contribute, which is exactly what Collier got.

Miles comes in with three seniors on his roster.  Coaching change season happens to coincide with transfer season.  And if you hustle, you can actually pick up some pretty good players during transfer season.  Guys who are unhappy because their college coach turned out to be an alcoholic freakazoid or because the level of competition for playing time at a place like, oh, say, Florida, is through the roof.  So, you can find some good deals in transfer season.  Probably a higher caliber of player than the uncommitted guys still looking for their first D1 offer in April.

The only downside of transfers is that you can't use them right away.  They have to sit a year.

But is that actually a downside?   Hmmmmmmmmm.

You're Tim Miles and you graduated three seniors off your first team at Nebraska.  But you're entering your second year with a couple of legit D1 players who spent the last year acclimating to you as a coach, maturing, developing, working on their games and blending in with their teammates.

So, now, you have some guys who have been in your program a year who: 1) blunt the loss of last year's seniors; and 2) immediately upgrade the athleticism of your team.  They've also had a year to wait in the wings, get a little hungry, and ready themselves to hit the ground running.

Brilliant.  Just brilliant.

Div I transfers are part of the "Tim Miles Plan"....the ubiquitous plan Miles used at CSU, NDSU, and all the other places he came from before to build a program.

A lot of times you need to make the decision between program building and win now....and Miles has so far proven to be disciplined enough to build.

The benefit of having Biggs, Petteway and Pitchord for 3 years really can't be overstated. They will form the nucleus of what should be a dynamite squad when they along with Shields are Seniors. BTW, is it 11/8 yet? I'm ready for tip-off!

FIFY.  Biggs is a junior.  We only get him for 2 seasons.

Thanks Norm, I thought I might have been wrong when I posted that. Stockpiling talent though is never a bad idea. Now if we can just keep them out of the sculpture gardern, and their pants UP.
