ajb5856 Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 I think its very interesting to see that Elbert announces this and then on the same day we are flying down to Texas. It could mean one of two things. We are going to confirm his silent verbal to us OR we are going on a last ditch effort to try and get him to come here. I think Elbert knows and has known where he wanted to go. Personally I think it is between us and LSU. OSU could be in there as well, and it is kind of funny all this news comes out AFTER Goodluck announced. Yes kinda funny that he announced this the morning after Okonoboh announced his decision. We will know soon enough what our coaches are doing. Last ditch effort at ER, confirming his commitment to us, or our staff pursuing other guys after failing to get ER. Quote
jdostal Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 OSU could be in there as well, and it is kind of funny all this news comes out AFTER Goodluck announced. It's hard for me to see him not going to OSU given the timing. You know the OSU coaching staff was in touch with him last night after the Goodluck announcement. hhcmatt 1 Quote
hskr4life Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Part of me wants to say that he did not want to go up against Goodluck in a game, and was therefore looking for another place to go besides Nebraska (LSU and GTown) then when Goodluck went out of the Big 10, he decided Nebraska was the place for him. Ok this may be stretching it a little... but just a little Quote
Badgett Fan Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Another dot, this one a bad one Matt McCurdy = scout.com reporter for LSU Definitely not good that Robinson chose that tweet to retweet. There should be a ton of twitter noise about the choice prior to Tuesday. If even just a couple of the recruiting guys suggest Nebraska has a good chance, then there is reason to hope. Otherwise, time to move on. Quote
ajb5856 Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Still interesting to me that we have heard of no other bigs and that most of the 2015 recruits we've heard of so far are guards with some smaller forwards mixed in. Quote
hskr4life Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 In all seriousness though, Elbert does not seem to be the type to drag on, and play mind games with fan bases like some other certain recruits. Quote

This is weird too... Maybe after coaches trip to Texas today we hear of a different big offer/visit. If we do not, then we must still feel like we have a shot. Quote

And Fran broke the news that the decision was near! BOOM! How bought them dots?!! Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Robin thinks OSU as do I at this point. His AAU coach didn't look forward to that visit according to the articles we read then he was tweeting how great it went. Doesn't sound promising with the timing.. But they aren't going to say if it was a crappy visit. Recruits never do that. Plus, the same could be said for his visit here. Elbert and his family "didn't know what to expect" and maybe weren't looking forward to it that much but afterwards they said they were blown away with how good it was. I never said the recruit. The coach said that on rivals he didn't look forward to that visit and then after the visit said it was great. Badgett Fan 1 Quote

Fair enough, though I think Fran's insight has as much to do with his knowledge of the DFW hoops scene as it does with any specific connection to one of the relevant colleges. What's odd to me is that the Crystal Ball predictions have been so uniformly LSU in the past month. OSU seems as much of a favorite as LSU, so I'd think that at least someone would predict the Buckeyes. Quote
ajb5856 Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 C'mon, Elbert! This is exciting, isn't it? Another tidbit to put on the optimism train before it falls off the tracks. Miles' #1 job interview priority when hiring this last assistant was 'can you deliver me a big man this year?'. And Miles hired Kenya Hunter. Did Miles do it again? Our coach is freakin genius. Quote
Cookie Belcher Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Nebraska fans seem to care about his decision wayyyyyy more than other places. Ohio State wants him but is just like oh cool another big time recruit. We are on pins and needles. Wish Elbert knew that haha. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Well, the coaches chose Dallas as a recruiting destination today for a reason. And Harriman chose to tweet it for a reason. And, yeah, maybe it'd make sense if it was Hunter flying down there but who took the picture? The pilot? "Hey, Kenya, be a mate and run over there real quick and take a picture of me standing next to the plane before we hop on, 'kay?" The timing is suspicious and you have to factor that into the tea leaves. Silverbacked1 1 Quote
Navin R. Johnson Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Is anybody else reading anything into the fact that Coach Herriman tweeted that he is headed to Dallas? He is not really hiding anything there. (if his trip is connected to Robinson) Quote
Navin R. Johnson Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 You beat me to it Norm by seconds. Quote
Cookie Belcher Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Again, just an FYI but Zach Smith is also in Dallas. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 And I'm going to reiterate what I said before: The fact that Okoboji chose UNLV just PROVES that a big time player can go on an official visit with big WOW factor and still say, thanks, but ... Maybe Okoboji deciding on UNLV means Elbert thinks he's got a spot at tOSU without competition. Maybe Lebron being there was a turnoff to both of them. I don't make much of who's tweeting what at this point. Could go any direction and only Elbert and his family know for sure. Quote
ajb5856 Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Again, just an FYI but Zach Smith is also in Dallas. Does Zach Smith have an offer? Can't remember if he was one who left town after his visit without one. Very possible that the coaches are down there just doing the standard recruiting stuff. Zach Smith is 6-7ish and we are stacked at the wing/small forward position. The timing of this is very strange, indeed. He's tweeted this type of thing before but why today, why Dallas? And why would he tweet it if it was just another trip down to Texas? Craig Smith is our Texas guy, right? And Harriman works with the bigs? Do I have this correct or which of our assistants works directly with the big guys? Quote
Norm Peterson Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Who knows who's on that plane? Chris Harriman does but he didn't tweet that. You assume it's just him but that's not a valid assumption, IMO. Someone took the picture. Timing seems curious to say the least. My guess is, using the rosiest of glasses, Elbert calls G'town to say "no visit" right AFTER he called Miles to say "I'd love to commit in person." Quote

Silverbacked1 Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Maybe some kid form down under is looking into a prep school in the Dallas area and Harriman is going down to translate for the family. Norm Peterson 1 Quote

In the article by Robin he listed Smith at 6'8", which may make him a PF candidate. This makes more sense as we are in need of a PF but not a wing. Quote

ajb5856 Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Let's dissect this further. Harriman tweet-8:20am Fraschilla tweet-8:55am ER tweet (1st confirming his decision coming Tuesday)-10:31am Hopefully our staff was notified last night, they decided to cancel practice, and made the flight plans for this morning. Quite the coincidence that we were headed to Dallas bright and early this morning before all the news broke. Quote
