The Coach Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 Their Rivals Commit List only shows one commit (Epps). Regardless they are SEC so there's a good chance they will over-sign hhcmatt and leonidas 1 1 Quote
leonidas Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 I'm sure they will oversign. It's the SEC I would agree. Unless LSU has a need at another position, a team in LSU's position would surely take Robinson. It just means someone on the current team will be kicked to the curb. Nebraska would do the same. Quote

Of course they would/will over sign. But every big guy that goes to a school that ER is considering helps. It fills a need for that school and puts another body in the way in terms of competition for playing time for Elbert. Quote
The Coach Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 Epps is an unranked Power Forward. We already have a Top 150 Center in Hammond committed. If competition at this position is a consideration, that would seem to favor LSU. leonidas 1 Quote
Norm Peterson Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 Yeah, Coach, but we had the commit from Hammond before the Elbert visit. LSU did not. What ajb says seems to make a lot of sense and I am hopeful he's right. I'm no good reading the tea leaves with recruits. What I do think is that coming here for Elbert was more of a pure college visit than taking in a game. If he wanted to come here for the experience of taking in a game, he would have come to the UCLA game a week later instead of Southern Miss. And just from the pictures of him posing with fans and hanging out with Coach Miles and Walter Pitchford at the game, it looks like he hit it off with our people and would feel comfortable here. I don't know if we'll get Elbert. But I think we could get him. I think if he chooses to play his college ball somewhere else it won't be because there was anything about Nebraska he didn't like but because he had a number of quality options and could only choose one. If Elbert comes here, he will be as happy with that choice as he would have been with any other. Nebraska would be a good experience for him and give him opportunities that other schools might match but not beat. JMOO. bobcat402 and Silverbacked1 2 Quote

JMOO. i guess ill try and read the tea leaves....we like ER...alot we allow wacker to walk, Bolden cuts from us his list, pinder has an outstanding visit, but dosnt have an offer(due to multiple things, grades, ability, ER) i think we are all in with pocket kings, LSU has him for a visit than not a day later takes a commit from a unranked PF(peculiar) good signs for us. GTOWN hasnt schduled a visit, and now is taking visits from other big man, something we are not doing as of yet. i think its NU and LSU showdown with us pulling this one out for a change. Quote
The Coach Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 Georgetown seems to think that Elbert's recruiting is being "tainted" by his AAU Coach. Apparently he's the same coach that caused Perry Jones to be suspended at Baylor. Norm Peterson 1 Quote

Apparently he's the same coach that caused Perry Jones to be suspended at Baylor. Well, if that's true, it's good news for us. Usually, "tainting" by an AAU coach works against us. It's nice that this particular AAU coach is an NU fan. And that's actually the best news on Elbert's recruitment I've seen. It means that, in all likelihood, someone in his ear is on our side, which gives us a chance. And actually might swing the deal. Based on that info, I might actually allow myself to get my hopes up a bit. (Dayum! Georgetown is complaining about AAU coaches tainting their prospects with a recruit we're competing with them to get. Last time that happened was, oh, about never.) bobcat402 1 Quote

Donkey Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 The more I think about it, the more I am not surprised Elbert visited LSU. LSU's current coach, Johnny Jones, built North Texas into a solid program and even recruited Tony Mitchell, a 2013 NBA draft pick, to play there after Mitchell left Mizzu. I would not be suprised if Johns had kids go to North Texas to play for Jones over the years. Johns probably wanted to maintain that relationship by taking Elbert to LSU. Quote
ShortDust Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 I'm hoping Robin can swing some more info here today, or in next couple days. Does he take visit to OSU or Gtown for their homecoming? Interesting battle going on here. Quote

Cookie Belcher Posted September 23, 2013 Report Posted September 23, 2013 That will be the narrative from opposing fans whenever we finally do land a big time recruit. Of course they would have to assume something was up if they lose a recruiting battle to Nebraska in basketball. It's annoying but I can't really blame them. Hopefully in a few seasons, it wouldn't be as much of a shock for us to be challenging them for a recruit. Quote
ajb5856 Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 Well guys...here's the latest on Elbert. This is from Pony Pride, SMU's Rivals page. http://nebraska.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1553186 Doesn't have a date when he's going to cut his list. Wants to cut his list to 6 or 7 schools. Wants to commit to a school in April. Down to 304 pounds. Doing a lot of boxing classes. And he IS taking the Ohio State visit this weekend. Quote

ajb5856 Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 He still doesn't know where he is taking his last official to. So this final list of 6 or 7, when it finally does come out wont be anything special. It will be his 5 official visits plus 1 or 2 of the schools in Texas that he's visited unofficially. I would expect SMU to be on it. Quote

Odd that you'd take your official visits and THEN cut your list to 6-7 schools. It would seem that after you've taken your official visits, you're ready to decide on 1 school. Quote

While I'd prefer not to wait that long, it seems to me that this probably benefits NU. NU would make room for him regardless whereas it would seem more likely that schools like Georgetown and Ohio State would fill their class with other highly-regarded recruits in the meantime. Quote
a0t0w0 Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 Yikes, April? I personally don't like our chances with waiting that long. The shine of the facilities and the warm fuzzies from the visit could seriously dull in that time. Imagine the gloom around here if we don't get him after a year of hanging on his every tweet. I like the 100 page challenge though. Obviously 30 pages was an unlucky number with Atewe, so lets try and blow by that. Norm Peterson 1 Quote
