TheKamdyMan Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 sounds like its all wrapped up for long time Duke assistant Chris Collins to take over at Northwestern. The league seems to get tougher and tougher. Norm Peterson 1 Quote
Huskerpapa Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 Seems like it may be a good fit. Collins has been a good bridesmaid, it will be interesting to see how he is as a bride. TheGov21 and Norm Peterson 2 Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted March 27, 2013 Author Report Posted March 27, 2013 I agree. I think hes learned plenty on how to do well at a private school that requires good academics. Also being from the Chicago area helps with his ties as he was the lead recruiter for Jabari Parker to Duke. Quote
Handy Johnson Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 Also saw today that fellow Dookie and Laettner BFF Bobby Hurley was hired to coach the Buffalo Bulls. Quote
TheGov21 Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 Also saw today that fellow Dookie and Laettner BFF Bobby Hurley was hired to coach the Buffalo Bulls. Talk about job hopping. Wasn't he just at Rhode Island for just a year? And before that was he only at Wagner for a year too? Quote
TheGov21 Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 I also think that Collins was a good fit for Northwestern. Like what was previously said, he is use to being at a private school with good academic standings. Him being from Chicago also really helps. Who knows, maybe he'll be similar to what Pat Fitzgerrald is doing with their football program. Quote

Huskerpapa Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 Dan Hurley has been the established college coach. Their Dad (Bob) is one of the elite HS coaches of all time. Bobby has been an assistant under Dan. This is good for Bobby. Bobby has come a long way back since his vehicle accident that almost killed him. I hope he succeeds. Quote
TheGov21 Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 I knew the two were coaching together, thought bobby was the head coach Quote
hhcscott Posted March 28, 2013 Report Posted March 28, 2013 I knew the two were coaching together, thought bobby was the head coach So did Bobby, hence the job change. (Ba doom Ching) Sorry, I actually really like Bobby Hurley and hope things go great at Buffalo. Funny that it is the same metro area as Laettner's hometown Quote
49r Posted March 28, 2013 Report Posted March 28, 2013 Good read here: http://www.sippinonpurple.com/2013/3/28/4153446/chris-collins-northwestern-duke-coach I particularly enjoyed this snippet: Northwestern and Duke each have kids trending more towards white, suburban backgrounds than other schools' teams that other schools' fanbases love to hate. Duke's are generally nationally elite players, Northwestern's are typically the guys from the Chicago area other Big Ten schools didn't offer. Both have fanbases perceived as elitist nerds, except one shows up to games and the other occasionally reads novels in the stands. I wonder who that could possibly be that the writer is talking about??? Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted March 29, 2013 Report Posted March 29, 2013 Well it isn't Noah, he's a dance too much to read a book. Noah121 1 Quote

When I lived in Omaha a couple of years ago my coworker gave me his tickets to a Creighton game. At the game a lady that sits in the seats next to his was reading a novel throughout the entire game. I asked him about this the next day at work and he said she does that every game. Quote

Hooper Posted March 29, 2013 Report Posted March 29, 2013 Bringing a novel to read during any sporting event means you don't give a crap about the game, so I don't think it matters which sport it is. I guess some guys' wives seem to like the tailgating and social aspect of going to games but don't care about the games themselves. Quote
hhcscott Posted March 30, 2013 Report Posted March 30, 2013 With all the flipping timeouts in both, George R.R. Martin would have time to finish WRITING A Song of Ice and Fire let alone for me to read a book. When I taught, I saved grading for NFL games since there were so many long breaks. Quote
Noah121 Posted March 31, 2013 Report Posted March 31, 2013 Although I've never read a book during the game, I have been caught red-handed by doing pre-gaming in the form of grading and/or homework (both at Northwestern and Nebraska!). Too bad I can't find myself in that above picture. I was probably much closer to the field. I haven't really followed the coaching search. Daledangdarn 1 Quote
