atskooc Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 Was "filmed" in the town of Fremont Nebraska if I remember correctly. Some of the scenes were. One of which was the locker room/coach's office. I thought so, too, but apparently that's just a rumor and is not actually true: http://www.fast-rewind.com/locations_teenwolf.htm >There has been long standing debate as to whether other locations used allegedly included Fremont, NB. An Alumni of Fremont High School wrote in with the following: "In a previous review of "Teen Wolf" it states that some of the gym scenes and locker room scenes were filmed at Fremont High School, in Fremont Nebraska. This is a false report. None of the scenes from "Teen Wolf" were filmed in the state of Nebraska. There is a credit at the end of the film that recognizes Friends from Fremont Nebraska. The reasoning for this rumor is the sticker and calendar in the coaches office that are Husker Power and various Husker items that make an appearance in the movie. Scotts kitchen is a Husker calendar as well. This is being investigated and believed that someone from the City of Fremont may have came up with the plot and possibly idea for Teen Wolf. All I know for sure is that NO shots were made in the school or in Nebraska. A friend of mine was the Coach of the football team at that time and he has no recollection of such filming in locker rooms or thereabouts. I am also a Alumni of Fremont High and nothing in any scene is familiar. Neither Michael J. Fox nor the Coach Bobby Finstock stepped foot in Nebraska much less Fremont confirmed by then Head Football Coach and Athletic Director of Fremont High at the time of shooting of film." I suppose that's what I get for believing the Internet. Quote

Neebraska Posted March 28, 2013 Report Posted March 28, 2013 I think that most of you are forgetting the fact that an athletic scholarship pays for tuition, books, and room/board (and training table). The room/board check the kids get is going to be a lot better than the additional stipend of the best academic scholarship additional stipend, which is the Chancellor's Scholarship at $2000 a year which works out to be a whole $166.67 a month. Good luck eating and getting a place to live for $166.67. The money is good, the only reason athletes take summer classes, is all they have to take is 2 classes total over the summer and they get that room/board check ALL summer, even if they do the classes in the first summer session. So they can stay and work out and/or screw off, and get rent and food paid for instead of going home for the summer. I've been more curious why we've been giving Cotton's kids athletic scholarships when they, as children of an university employee, qualify for $1 per credit hour tuition. I think they all have been worthy of athletic scholarships, it's just that they could be doing it cheaper for the athletic department and freeing up a few scholarships elsewhere. Quote

I'm pretty sure it's not that easy. i think that $1 per credit hour thing is only for 15 hours a year or something so it wouldn't cover full time academic status for 2 semesters. I also think there is a rule that you have to be employed (or NCAA rule) that says you have to be employed for 3 years before you are eligibile anyways...which would have elminated Ben and Jake anyways. I think this is another one of those rules where it's not as easy/simple on the surface as what everyone thinks because if it was, everyone would be doing it. Quote

When I worked on campus I was immediately eligible for the credits as soon as I became a benefits eligible employee. It's been a few years since I worked at the university, so that may have changed, but that's the way it was as recently as 2010. Quote
Dead Dog Alley Posted March 28, 2013 Report Posted March 28, 2013 I'm pretty sure that Tony Wilbrand and Bronsen Schliep both kept Regents scholarships the whole time they were in school. From Schliep's bio at Huskers.com: PersonalThe son of Marvin and Raelene Schliep, Bronsen was born Dec. 13,1982, and has one sister, Brandy. Bronsen is majoring in businessadministration/pre-dentistry at Nebraska and is on track to graduate in May2006. His father, Marvin, attended Nebraska and was a member of the yell squadand club rowing team. Bronsen is a Regents and Peter Kiewit Scholar at Nebraska. He chose to join the Huskers as a walk-on after being recruited by Air Force,Dartmouth and Northwest Missouri State. In football, in the late 90's Jeff Hemje was also able to keep an academic scholarship, but could do so only because he wasn't recruited in any way by Nebraska, he just showed up at the stadium office over the summer and inquired about walking on. Others in the past have had to relinquish the academic scholarship or when it came to seeing playing time, or they had to be counted against the scholarship limit. Quote
